I wonder if we could dump Phillips, Bus or Bulmer at the deadline for picks...

I wonder if Bulmer/Bus could end up being a decent 4th liner. But i don't know if Phillips has a future in this organization.

Still tho, if somoene is willing to overpay for them why not.

That Coburn trade sets an unsettling tone for any buyers today.

Still hope we go after a guy like Leopold, but hopefully the prices aren't too insane.

Bergenheim trade makes zero sense unless they move Vanek today. They gave up a 3rd rounder for a bottom six winger when they had a surplus of bottom six wingers.

Basically no rental defensemen left on the market outside Michalek. Wild need a defenseman right now. Spurgeon out indefinitely and Scandella hurt last game. At this rate, they are going to be running Falk and Prosser on the bottom pair. Unacceptable.

Did Petry (2nd + 5th) fetch quite a small return considering those other dmen being dealt?

Oilers fans sure think so. I never thought much of Petry. He reminds me of Tom Gilbert. OK players, but forced to play in an elevated role due to the ineptitude of the Oilers defensive corps. He's a 3rd pairing guy on a good team.

I went from believing we wouldn't do anything more than possibly obtaining Leopold for a 6th to suddenly feeling our move today will be considerably bigger than we all expect. Don't know who or why.

Vanek has a full no-trade clause, he is not going anywhere. I wouldn't call guys like Fontaine, Haula, and Schroeder a surplus of bottom 6 wingers either. Berg is a playoff tested veteran who you know what he'll bring to the table every game. You don't have that consistency with the other guys I have mentioned, even though they have played well recently.

Fontaine, Haula/Brodziak, Schroeder, Keranen, Veilleux, Carter should be back soon as well.

Also:

Last two years 5v5:

J. Leopold
0.5 P60
49.0 CF%
3.7 ZSO%
14.0 TOI/G

N. Prosser
0.5 P60
46.5 CF%
-12.2 ZSO%
11.8 TOI/G

J. Falk -
0.3 P60
45.0 CF%
4.9 ZSO%
10.1 TOI/G

Seems like Leopold would be an upgrade over Falk and likely Prosser as well.
