For sure. Being a 7th defenseman or less in your prime years is not a way to cashing in on your career. I like Logan Stanley. I like Dylan Samberg and Ville Heinola's ceilings more. In terms of asset management this would be trading from a position of strength for Chevy. To be fair maybe he thinks we're too deep for him to get regular time and wants to go somewhere with thinner defence depth.
Agreed $900,000 salary and won't be a problem for them, and he won't be due a raise on his next deal. Maybe part of a Schmaltz trade?Stanley would be a good piece to package to the Yotes (broken record).
I don't want to get all Schmaltzy here, but... ...wait

Ill be in Boracay this October!I’m currently in a time zone 13 hours ahead of central time. When I wake up it’s like Christmas morning, except I feel like I’m the kid that only got socks and underwear.

Scheifele, Schmidt and Schmaltz......
That looks just like Winnipeg right now.I’m currently in a time zone 13 hours ahead of central time. This TDL is insane. When I wake up it’s like Christmas morning, except I feel like I’m the kid that only got socks and underwear.

That's brilliant.
Yeah, I can understand his dilemma. I guess the information that we are missing is what have Helle and Scheifele told him. If they have indicated they are going to test FA then does it make sense to go all in? If they have indicated they like the direction under Bones and are open then I can see a bit more aggression on Friday by him.
I think Chevy has one more rabbit to pull outta the hat. A trade that will come out of no where. When I see some of the traded players and some of the prices, it is clear to me that Chevy is not all in. Bjugstad AND Cam Dineen for a 3rd? 50% retention on Bjugstad?
We were capable of making a better offer for Meier. I understand not doing so since he would have been a pure rental - but with a year of UFA, we could have recovered some of the cost after the season.
We were capable of making a better offer for Chychrun. He is under contract for 2 more years on a team friendly deal. Maybe durability was a determining factor, but if Chevy was all in that wouldn't have stopped him.
Neither bragging nor complaining at this point. Just how it looks to me.
But its still funny, Mort.
Can't judge a trade deadline until everything is said and done. Chevy is low on draft capital for trades, and I really don't think he wants to put his 1st round picks in play this year or next, considering the uncertainty going into next season. The exception would be a good young player with term. Right now he is likely on the phone with some fellow GM, trying to convince them that Stanley still hold the value of his draft position. When I see some of the traded players and some of the prices, it is clear to me that Chevy is not all in. I think the biggest problem you would have is trying to move out Schimdt or Pionk because that's the only way you can make that trade if Parayko waves his NTC.
ltir covered by insurance gives them the ability to trade other contracts cough schmaltz cough and still be at the floor
