We have a bad bottom-6 partially because of fewer picks. It's also bad because Chevy and scouts had a bad 2016 (after non-brainer Laine) and bad 2017 draft.Another LHD! Exactly what we need!
Do you think Chipman would sign off on having a lot of lean years rebuilding like the Rams will be doing at the cost of one Championship? It’s fair to wonder. He has also been on record saying he wants a consistent winner every season.
The Winnipeg Jets aren’t at the same level as the Rams or Lightning were where they were obvious championship caliber teams. Even if Chevy/Chipman add one or two more significant pieces… they’re not making it to Cup Finals. Yes, I know, I know… “if not now, when!?!?”… “this team needs to go all-in, they owe it to their players!”.
My opinion on this will never change. Chevy/Chipman’s strength needs to continue to be a patient draft and develop team. Using their Cap Space to gain assets. And try to find market inefficiencies to sign/trade buy-low players like DeMelo, Perreault, Stempniak, Brossoit, etc.
It’s no fluke this team currently has a bad bottom-6. 2018 they had no 1st round pick. 2019-2021 they had 4-5 draft picks per year. Eventually that stuff starts creeping up on the team.
Yes I’m fully aware most draft picks don’t work out. But the less picks you have, the odds decrease of finding NHL’ers, and there’s less room for error.
The highest profile UFA’s Winnipeg has signed in 12 years are the likes of Olli Jokinen and Steve Mason. That pretty much says it all. Draft picks are incredibly important to this team.
Well aware I’m in the minority on this opinion. But I don’t want to see this team give away more assets to inevitably not win the Cup.
Anyway… that’s all I’ll say on this matter. Cheers.
He’ll never get the accent right.DO IT Chevy.
I said the other day that some team is going to look at his size and think they can turn him in to Zdeno Chára. Let them try.
Let's not revisit this "debate", especially in the trade thread.Toxic for not wearing a rainbow sweater... lol
Maybe Chevy leaked it out to see what he can get for Stanley ... who knows?Report is likely accurate but has it been confirmed Stanley actually requested a trade?
considering how much the Jets/TNSE participate in LGBTQ initiatives i highly doubt they'll bring in ProvorovToxic for not wearing a rainbow sweater... lol
teams have been asking about him and NSH too and Chevy said noMaybe Chevy leaked it out to see what he can get for Stanley ... who knows?
On another note with the injuries the Jets being shorthanded It would be nice for them if Chevy can get a deal done today with 2 games with the Oilers on Fri & Sat.
I doubt whoever Chevy gets Friday even plays on Saturday.
Has reported on the NHL for the last 19 years. Based in St Louis, he hosts a very popular hockey podcast alongside Cam Janssen.Who is this guy? A Blues insider? Strange source, unless the Jets and Blues are talking, and I can't see Chevy trying to get any of St. Louis's NTC top 4 d-men. Bortuzzo though, he might be a good fit for the same role, different side.
I like Big Stan, he hasn't exactly shown he can dominate, and any player wants to play rather than sit, especially young players, so we'll see how this one plays out.
How do we miss out on chuchryn. For that little of a price ? Everyone’s going so hard getting so many players and we just sit around trying to get a bargain.
This is why Winnipeg will always be a small market Mickey Mouse team
I wonder how the players feel

Perhaps his source is Janssen who, like Stanley, played for Windsor's Spitfires in the OHL. Very loose connection as their junior years are a decade apart from each other, so just spitballing.

Chevy keeps calling his cell from his landline to make sure it is working as he is getting no calls for Stanley*furiously hitting F5 when learning that Stanimal asked for a trade*
Trading away draft picks isn’t *the* only reason that has lead to a bad bottom-6. But it’s certainly a contributing factor.we have a bad bottom six because we recently been trading away picks? I mean none of those picks we traded away would be helping us this year anyways....
Too funny Stanley asking for a trade. Guess he thinks he is more than a 7/8 defenseman?DO IT Chevy.

Agreed the leafs took it on the chin last night but will definitely do the jets a solid tonight since. If not kiss the jets playoff hopes goodbye sine they will lose both to The McDavidton Oiler.NO WAY the leafs lose to the flames the way they’re playing.
Hutch wasn’t the main piece of the return. The 7th was. Can't believe we now live in a world where Jonathan Quick got traded for Michael Hutchinson
Hutch wasn’t the main piece of the return. The 7th was.
Can we not go for it now well the West is up for grabs and if that doesn't work out, we will have a lot of major assets to move and help recoup those high picks at next years deadline? Because lets face it, if the org doesn't go for it, those players wont be returning anywaysAnother LHD! Exactly what we need!

most of those picks traded away would take years to develop into nhl players if they would even make it...Trading away draft picks isn’t *the* only reason that has lead to a bad bottom-6. But it’s certainly a contributing factor.
Out of the 13 draft picks below, you could easily have found a couple bottom-6’s. Or an RHD that’s needed. Or more goalie depth this franchise is lacking.
I’m not against trading away draft picks (i.e. DeMelo). BUT, Jets should be adding just as many as they’re trading away. And that’s what Chevy/Chipman hasn’t been doing
Draft rounds where Jets didn’t draft since 2016:
2016- 2nd
2018- 1st, 4th
2019- 3rd, 6th, 7th
2020- 3rd, 4th, 7th
2021- 4th, 6th, 7th
2022- 5th
Hutch might be the better goalie. Can't believe we now live in a world where Jonathan Quick got traded for Michael Hutchinson
He's only 6/7" tall not 7/8" , his agent is a big fibber.Too funny Stanley asking for a trade. Guess he thinks he is more than a 7/8 defenseman?
Exactly. Most late round players that do eventually make the NHL can usually be plucked off the waiver wire or the ‘Chevy special’ if you will.most of those picks traded away would take years to develop into nhl players if they would even make it...
22 draft has 4 players play a game in the nhl for a total of 50 games 39 coming from slafkovsky
21 draft 0 players after the 2nd round have made the nhl
20 3 players have played over 10 games after the 2nd round
19 10 players play over 10 games after the 2nd round
18 22 players have played over 10 games from the after the 2nd round and one of them is on the jets
don't really see how you can say that trading away these picks has contributed to us having a poor bottom six when the majority of these picks have yet to make any nhl team and those that have have not contributed much at all
