I'd love to move Pionk, but don't see it happening.

He's making a ton next year, has term and has been uneven to utter crap since the lockdown. Any possible suitor who did their homework would think twice at least, IMO.
I can't think of any team, maybe outside the Oilers that would have even passing interest in Pionk, and even that is likely now gone with them obtaining Ekholm.

I disagree. He's not directing any blame to Giroux and people who would blame Giroux if Chychrun doesn't work in OTT probably have plenty of other bad takes in their lives.
True but I would rather not risk any heat (even unreasnoble heat) if things back fire, And maybe its just me, but If was a hockey player and my GM had a candid talk with me, I dont think I would want him to burb it to the media.

I rather have the GM describe organic reasons for the trade rather than "Well I had to because I promised this guy"

Its like having a high level business exec explaining his reasoning on investing in a venture because "I promised my business partner I would do so". Just not very professional in my opinion.

Don't disagree in principle as it would likely be a longer shot to find a team that is that desperate for a D and can take on the cap.

But the point still remains. I don't see how adding to our D (without subtracting from the D) and taking up more of the cap space that we need to upgrade the true issue (forward depth) makes the Jets any better.
I think that is why Ehlers name was brought up as he has real value, and makes a trade more realistic. Also from a long term perspective we have an aging defense with not a lot of defenseman prospects in the cupboard, but are flush with future wingers.

Again, this is a warped viewing of the quote. Giroux is a respected vet that returned home to play and lead the kids I don't think they lose anything saying it to the media.

If there is one player fans can all utterly despise and wish to send into the abyss it's Pionk. I'll stand alone on this one. Hoping our boy comes through. He's been the most physical defenseman on the Jets in this stretch, which is a positive sign, going back to the way he was playing when he was having success. Looks more like playoff hockey.

if acquiring Sanheim:
I think Pionk would still get a positive return. guy has high TOI, decent point totals..... that goes far in trades. & poor defense is ignored for that. if he was a bit taller GMs would be flooding their pants to get their hands on him.

Agreed

I'm of course partly joking about PLD, but if I was Chevy and I got a phone call from another GM saying they are very interested in PLD and offer the right deal (a deal thats much stronger then what the Habs rumored to offer last summer and really filled some of our roster holes) I would seriously consider it. Now thats unlikely at this stage, albeit not impossible. But there are other longer term trades I would do now if I could to address our needs now and moving forward (especially if I know PLD is gone this summer).
if someone came to you with a package similar to meier, only available at the TDL. it'd be tough for me to turn that down.

2x1sts (one conditional)
1 recent 1st-round level prospect
1 late 2nd-round level prospect
a young-ish top-9er that has shown well lower down the line up.
7th round pick!!!!

but i also think they need to push to compete the next two years as well. so tough dilemma

Hey, I loved Old Physical PITA Pionk, prior to his suspension and then retaliation injury and stood up for him all the time.

That Pionk was quick, decisive and absolute hell to play against, and could contain much bigger and stronger players effectively while transitioning to a decent degree and adding some scarce points from the point. He was often our best D during the Long JMo Winter.

But that Pionk was smarter and far less chaotic than the recent and current gens. Maybe it's injury, maybe it's the post-suspension caution or heebie-jeebies, but he has not often been that player since.

I also hope our boy comes through. But it has gotten harder to argue his corner as a key defender in recent years.

I'm just going to set my expectations on getting an upgrade on both kuhlman and saku...
Me as well. Go out and get 2 of Vatrano, Sturm, Labanc or Bjugstad and I will be satisfied.

Add a depth defenseman like Stetcher or TVR.

I really don't expect Chevy to blow up the defense, but I could see this team experimenting with 7 d-men, at no cost. Considering the team is tied for 7th in GAA, with a good game away from being 4th, and 2nd in the league on the PK, I wonder how dissatisfied the coaching staff and management is with their group.

Except it doesn't make the team any better and more likely makes it worse to move Ehlers for a D.

Domi does exactly zero for us against anybody we’ll get in the playoffs and is gone in summer.

Would be a horrific use of assets.

2025 second and a 2024 4th. Both picks erased and becomes a 2023 1st if Jets make the 3rd round this year. ( and Domi plays certain amount of games)
they are hoping to get a 2nd for him, why on earth would we offer a conditional 1st...

But at least it is a realistic discussion. Ehlers has 2 more years of control. Sanheim has 8 years. If Chevy was looking at remaking his roster IMO it makes sense, especially in light where are prospect strength is.
