While I like searching for a "top 3 D" I would love any upgrade that can rid us of Pionk. We likely can't dump him so my biggest fear is Chevy just goes for a #7 type depth D... there is plenty to be had.... and pushes Samberg to the PB. When Samberg is already bettter then Pionk and Schmidt. Time will tell.... I'm fine with extra depth if it is just that extra depth. I think our bigger focus should be a #3C. Anything that is a slight offensive upgrade on Lowry. Obviously Schmaltz would be a homerun. We would have the best 1-3 or even 1-4 punch in the West and a PLD loss is a lot easier to take. But a Bjugstad will do. The thing that got to me last game was Lowry as #2 is a complete joke and waste of Ehlers and Nino. Then having to watch Lowry play 3v3.... never mind Lowry on PP2 with no goals in 4000 games. Forward depth is a way bigger issue then defence. 1 injury to Mark or PLD equals Lowry at 2C... that is a major problem. And if we only fix one thing for the stretch run let that be it please.

So that probably means that Voracek is pseudo-retired. The Coyotes don't do that otherwise.

I wonder how low their actual expenses are for the NHL team, how much are they paying in insurance to not pay all of those deals?

I like a healthy Avalanche over a beat and run down Tampa, Boston, Rangers, Leafs
I think the West is going to be tough to get through too. You look at how hard Dallas played Calgary last year they basically pummeled them into being a little slower against a speed Oilers team. Minnesota doesn't mind hitting. Kings came in here and played a chippy game. I expect them to be a tough team to play against. Vegas has some toughness. Mc Nabb can sure hurt people skating with their head down. Jets seem to be gearing up towards some big tough trenches playoff hockey. I would describe Colorado and Edmonton as the only top end skill teams in the West.

In the East, it's going to be more skilled. Less big hits. Other than Tampa's goon squad, who thrive on PPs, there's not really another overly physical team in the East. I guess the Rangers with Trouba, you have to pay attention to. The ones who tried to play heavier, like Washington and Philly are on the outside looking in. I think the ones on the bubble, like the Isles or Ottawa or Florida, they could change the complexion a little.

True but West not being very strong, you would think some teams wouldn't mind spending premium assets just to make it to the final. Especially if the eastern teams beat up on eachother,. The final might not be as one sided as it would seem If just the road getting there wears out the eastern represtantive
I know its only one game but the OIlers looked good playing the leafs yesterday and that was without Kane.
The Ekholm trade did wonders for the Oiler D ... Ekholm played more than 20 mins.

JVR is fine if there is retention and he doesnt cost a first, but I dont see where he fits into the "we play a top 6 and two lines of meat and potatoes" that the Jets seem to enjoy doing.

with how stupid and disorganized Vancouver is.... i feel like we could've gotten a good deal from them on Pionk based on what they gave up for Hronek (even with him having a better year), and then a move for Sanheim.

The Jets won't trade for Provorov, they have zero reason to. The whole charts and Sanheim option though is a little over the top...Not once has Sanheim been mentioned as a trade option by any credible source. It would defeat the purpose of signing him.. And the whole things is too theatrical for me. Martin Luther King Jr. would tell you that the only way to conquer an enemy is with love, but hate is acceptable if in retaliation I suppose, on a social media platform. I could see Provorov going to Florida, where the need and the politics might support him.
