What I'm getting at is that we aren't like other franchises. We can't for the life of us sign 3rd liners even as UFAS nevermind stud players as we keep finding out.

We have to maximize every single asset we control every single season.

So your in a bind right you know he's going he's told you that. You have depth at the time and way more teams to trade with by the way. Not all trades are for a pick and prospects. See Cgy Fla trade.

But I am supposed to believe holding him right to the last minute was a good idea. I'm not using hindsight either I wanted them at that time to move him. I never believed we were a true contender but we were on the doorstep.

While it's true we have a harder time signing FA it's not like we can't sign players to fill roles. You are overstating how big an issue we have there. This summer was most likely due more to the shitstorm of a year we had last year then the market.

Most years Chevy doesn't have that hard of a time filling depth roles with external acquisitions.

An honest question to you, do you want this team to ever win? Or do you juat want to try to play the asset management game no matter where the team is at in its development. There are always going to be players who don't want to stay long term here, you need to balance their on ice contributions vs. What they can bring in a trade.

Trouba provided 6 years of excellent value to this franchise at an incredibly favorable cap hit while also returning a second pairing offensive dmen and 1st round pick. So the Jets got a solid future package as well as good on ice results that helped the team make a massive run that put a lot of $$ in the teams pockets and helped establish the group as a legit annual playoff team. There is a lot of economic value to a franchise by being a consistient playoff team. At the end of the day the goal is to win and make money and he helped then there.

Also you need to take into account how some of these moves impact the thoughts of the players in the room. If you keep selling off your great players early because they have indicated they are leaving as FAs good luck getting the Helle's, Scheifele's etc willing to commit to the franchise long term. "OH sorry Mark I know we have a great team and a chance to win but we are trading one of our best D in Trouba because he's going to leave in a couple of years".

I mean wait until he is a UFA theu can make it happen.

I don't like how we are allowing ourselves to get painted further into a corner the longer it goes.

How come we are talking prospects and picks for PLD and Trouba's case but Calgary can get mature 2 players.
Riddle me that ?

Tkachuk is better than Trouba and Dubois, also Tkachuk reportedly gave Calgary a list whereas the only thing we've heard is Trouba wanted New York only and Dubois supposedly wants Montreal only.

Further lots of people have said Florida overpaid.

I really think Chevy sat on his hands this summer after loading up last year and having it collapse... likely wanted to see if he had to go full rebuild at TD or not

Well Ottawa is a good trading partner as they have a lot of forwards. They also juat waived Zaitsev opening up a roster spot.

Sens fans discussing Nate and DeMelo as options........

So do you think we are talking a current roster player?

I would assume Ottawa is looking for a current roster player given they want to start to compete. I would also assume we would want a current roster player for a current dmen.

I could see us being interested in Joeseph or Formenton (provided he gets cleared by the NHL investigation).

Schmidt for one of the two?

Sens do have free cap space

If I'm not mistaken Formenton would also need to sign a contract.

Also have to wonder if he would waive to go there.......
Good point.

What does Ottawa have to offer? Do they have any good middle-6 forwards that they're willing to trade? I don't see anyone obvious looking at their depth chart, it's either guys who aren't much better than what we have or guys they obviously wouldn't move.

I am okay with moving Schmidt or Pionk but you have to think that the organization isn't moving them for picks in a cap clearing move and wants a roster player back considering the start of the season. I am not sure if the Sens have a roster player that they'd be willing to give up. Ofcourse if the season goes pear shaped then Schmidt/Pionk/Dillion can be moved for picks and clearing up capspace.

A player like Joseph is big and physical and can play all 3 forward spots. He's also locked in for another 4 years at a reasonable cap hit. I'd imagine he'd be our number 1 target.

Prefer Formenton depending on his contract if cleared of any wrong doing. Joesph is interesting, but seems to be a bit overpaid for what hes done so far.

I don't know if Ottawa will move Formenton and if they're willing I am not sure this organization will be willing to touch him considering this controversy. The organization is going all in on "good vibes" and I don't see them risking it.

Don't know much about Joseph though.

Unfortunately I don't think it's Demlo or Schmidt they'd be looking to move but rather Heinola, Chisholm or Gawanke. Jets don't strike me based on history as the type to rock the boat with a trade when winning.

Going to take a guess that it isn't a roster player they are talking about

I only think he's touched if the NHL clears him of any wrong doing. But I tend to agree with you that I don't want anything to do with him barring that.

Interesting, I guess that would depend when Dorian was in the city as the Moose haven't played in a bit.

Don`t know what they might be prepared to offer us, but my guess is that they would prefer DeMelo to Schmidt. I say this based upon the fact that DeMelo really served to steady things when he was there, playing with Chabot.

Does anyone really see the Jets moving any of Pionk/Dillion/Schmidt right now? I don't . Could be Stanley/Samberg from the roster but do either of those do anything for Ottawa or return us something of value? Maybe its Heinola, disgruntled and likely ready for a NHL role but is he some one Ottawa would want. Where would he play in the lineup?
