For me a 1 for 1 for RNH just doesn’t make sense at all for the Flyers.

For starters you have Frost hopefully coming up next year. That, along with the progression of Patrick, means to me that they don’t need to go out of their way to trade a defenseman, whose career high in points is higher than the center you want to trade for.
We still have no idea what kind of impact Frost or Patrick will have next season. I like the idea of starting Frost at wing and having Frost and Patrick on the third line next year.

I’m not opposed to that at all. I just feel like with this free agent class of forwards and the forwards the Flyers have in the pipeline that there’s no reason to go out of the way to trade a very good, point producing defenseman for a decent forward.

I’d rather keep Ghost and try to sign one of the free agent forwards in the summer. But I’d be hesitant to trade Ghost unless someone blows me away.

So what? You can't sign players to extensions?
Great people to spend 8 million on.

:damnpc:

Common sense. The least amount in of players you have reach UFA status, the better. Trading away a cost controlled 4.5 million guy for 4 years, for someone making 6 for 2,,,,then maybe 8 afterwards, makes no sense.

Again, you keep trying to find matches and so far you have not. Don't give up because you are persistent in you unbiased ways.

After the firing of Chiarelli, just how open do you think that Edmonton is to deal? Maybe something on the edges but I doubt that they do anything big.
On the Simmonds front, I heard that he refused to go to the Oilers.

A "fair deal" where you're giving up a player having a down year from a production standpoint for one having a career year tends to be a poor idea.
It's not like this is Nugent Hopkins' first good season. He's been a highly regarded young player his whole career; averaged .77 PPG (and a 30 goal pace over a full season) last season; and appears to have taken the next step this season at only age 25 with a .92 PPG. Frankly, I imagine Edmonton would balk at trading him straight up for Ghost.

Excellent reasoning.

Edmonton is stupid so it wouldn’t be surprising if their direction stays the same & Chia was just fired for lack of execution.

Simmonds does have a 12 team no trade list though & Edmonton is typically on a fair amount of them around the league. So if he does that could be a bigger hurdle.

But I’m not really worried about a trade market for Simmonds regardless of who’s on that list.

List of Flyers dmen who have shown in the past that they can run the top PP unit and score 20+ PPP in a season

Gostisbehere, Shayne

That is all.

If there is any real intention of moving him, they should have Sanheim on PP1 to see if he can do it, cause Prorovrov sure can't.

That PP1 that he runs is absolutely terrible.

I agree that neither Sanheim nor Provorov are the guy to run it right now - though I think either do have that potential - but the fact is, you're seeing the freak who couldn't stop scoring in his rookie season, not the real Ghost when you make your evaluation.

The real guy is running a bottom 5 PP right now and has been for a while.

The Flyers are 29/31 in PP % with Ghost.

The Flyers are tied for 29/31 in the standings with Ghost.

And to anyone who isn’t relying on the well-known broken clock that is the NHL’s giveaway stats Ghost has been a turnover machine.

However, he also carries some of the highest trade value on this foundering team, & the team has significant holes elsewhere, in particular lacking dynamism in their top 2 scoring lines.

The team also has young defensemen ready or nearly ready to step into the NHL, such as Myers, Morin, & Friedman.

So if someone is of the opinion that Ghost is best used as a trade chip to address other problems with this flawed, nearly last-place team, maybe their opinion is justifiable even if others may not agree with it. Instead, we have differences of opinion attacked as failings of intellect rather than simply different perspectives.

You said it all, brother. Better than I could have.

Adding Sekera and Klefbom, when they are healthy, to Larsson and Nurse and the Oilers have a start on a decent defense; at least better than the trash that they've been icing lately. I don't mean to go full Burke here but injuries really hurt Edmonton for this season. However there's no defense for trading to get slop like Manning. Better to just take your beating.
I don't think that they'll be the trade mark that they once were.

Makes sense if you think a team currently one point out of last place would improve both now and in the future. And I think both of those trades would do that. You clearly don't. Difference of opinion.

Might as well trade Giroux then too since he’s just as big of a part of that power play, if not more.

Ghost's defenders cite, as his #1 irreplaceable skill, his ability in running the PP.

I happen to have evidence that the PP he runs stinks.

Nobody would cite Giroux's PP presence as his top asset.

The real Ghost is the ~40 game sample size, not the 200+ game one. What a joke.

Umm...only the clueless would say Ghost runs the PP. It CLEARLY runs thru Giroux.

It's ****ing bizzaro world around here.

Emotional response again. I'm merely responding to flyers0909 and others who say he's irreplaceable on the PP. You've just done the same, in a different way.

You can't investigate trading this player on this forum. Too many "Authentic Fans", I guess.
