Reading through here, it's encouraging to see more and more people seeing the light on the merits of moving Gostisbehere.

He is this beautiful, flawed specimen - fatally flawed, in my opinion as an NHL defenseman - with a marketable contract and unique skill set. It'd be a chance to move the d corps in a different direction while returning a very good asset or assets.

No, what I'm saying is he'd have to work out a long term extension BEFORE he gets traded to the Flyers. Then you're eliminating the other 31 teams from getting him.

Not sure what you are misunderstanding. I am saying that doing EXACTLY THAT would be profoundly stupid, because we can negotiate with him for free as soon as the season ends. If he doesn't make it there, then we move on to someone else. Our fortunes are not dependent on acquiring Mark Stone.

I can understand it in some fleece scenarios... but saying we are switching him for someone who scores goals.. yeah that's great. I wonder if Jake's assists result in goals. Hmm.

If only philosophoraptor wasn't an outdated meme

The way these people are talking makes it clear they’re not even talking about a fleece trade. They’re acting like he’s a cap dump.

At this point it’s pretty clear the people advocating for a trade are just biased against him (there’s quite a few who have made that super obvious) and aren’t thinking logically. There’s no realistic scenario where trading away a top scorer makes this team better.

I like Voracek but it seems he hasn't found a line combo where he really dominates like he has with Giroux in the past.

If we can find a line he really gels with, he could dominate playing lesser d pairings. Vora is all about fit, where as Giroux can play with pretty much anyone

And as I said, why wait till he's a free agent when you're not GUARANTEED to get him. This way, you're assured a contract before free agency, eliminating the other 31 teams. I'm not misunderstanding anything.

Stone would be great but I'm not interested in trading full value when he's about to be a UFA. I guess if it's some kind of reduced cost and he's re-upped it could work. Depends on the pieces of course.

Yikes, big no to Ceci he blows. When he was EK's partner he had good numbers but crap away from one of the best D man in the league. Hmmmm..

And that's a problem. He's not paid like a player that should depend on his linemates. He should be the one making his linemates better.
Everytime he's away from Giroux/Couturier, he shows nothing.

Giroux and Couts the veteran core.
Patrick, TK, Lindblom, Frost, Farabee the future core.

Voracek and JVR are expendable, and JVR goes to the net and scores, something Voracek can't/won't do.
If Ratcliffe wasn't 2-3 years away, I'd trade JVR.

Voracek can put up points, but he's a defensive liability, his net value, especially relative to his salary, is less than his points, and his value on the PP is in question in the "new era" of aggressive PK. The idea that a 2RW who is turning 30 next year, with mediocre Corsi and who is a below average shooter is irreplaceable is laughable.

I'm not giving anyone away, but if I can get a solid haul for Voracek, and then use his cap room to sign Panarin/Stone, it's a no brainer in my book.

Sign Datsyuk!

But seriously, the guy is all class and would be a hell of a role model for the kids on a 1 year, bonus laden deal. Will never happen.

Didn't you have the same opinion of Couturier?

Apparently you are misunderstanding the reality of a salary cap world and the value of assets.

Looking at how "flawed" Ghost is, it sure would have been nice if we had hired some.... I dont know... like a.... development coach. A guy who would tell Ghost what he could improve, what his faults are. A guy who would actually tell a player what the mistake was AND why he was benched. Someone who could communicate. That would have been cool. And maybe we would have ended up with a little less "flawed" player

Jake is 11th in ES points and 14th in overall points for RW....all why we have had a year of turmoil and crapp PP.

People need to have realistic expectations.

Do you realize that the player doesn’t have to sign with the team that trades for him? That he can still go to FA?

For all we know, we could give up a ton of assets and he’ll still want to go to Free Agency so he can see what other offers there are. In which case we gave up assets to end up in exactly the same situation we’d be in if we didn’t trade for him.

Unfortunately, his flaws are primarily physical, while he's regressed a little this season, that's normal, it's not like he's playing terrible (except on the PP and that's kinda weird this year), just not as good as last season.

He simply isn't the same player he was as a rookie, that injury sapped his burst, and he's still 5'10 185, which is very small for a defenseman. And the league has the film from last year's playoffs.

What are realistic expectations for a RW making $8.25M who is a defensive liability and a below average Corsi?

Then if he's not willing to sign an extension with us I pass.

Didn’t know you observed the coaching staff’s interactions with Ghost. Are the coaches to blame for every player on the team’s shortcomings, or just the ones you like?

No no, I am just ignoring multiple players indicating communication (in said cases) was an issue with Jeff. I have also never seen the goalies' medical records.
