Pre-Game Talk: Trade Deadline

Yeah, the day he got arrested I thought to myself that he might have nearly closed the Kings window. Maybe over dramatic at the time (and maybe still is) but what a loss. Just think what they could've gotten for him if they wanted to trade him.

So true...and they would have gotten more than his actual value - he was already playing a bit lackluster and without any tenacity to his game. Was coasting as much as Richards was...so since most thought he was almost elite - the Kings would have gotten the best of any deal. I'm not saying he was crap, he was already slacking a bit...at least not playing to his level of 2012. Kind of like the Kings got a great return for Visnovsky. And his 4.1 mil cap hit was good, considering guys like Scandella and Spurgeon are getting almost 5 mil! lol.

Would you guys take a chance on DSP? I don't think the MTL's style of hockey fits him really well.

you make less than zero sense. All of those players if magically dumped would have to be replaced. And by whom?
By a pylon would mean we don't downgrade...
Seriously tho, Shore is already replacing stone hands Lewis.
Getting rid of Brown is addition by substraction - I would think Boyes would be a replacement but I would hope there are enaugh UFAs to be that could be had for next to nothing (Purcell went for a 3rd).
Getting rid of 2 of the Clifford-Andreoff-Nolan and recalling a guy like Dowd would be more then fine. Too many scrubs already in the pressbox - no room for all of them on the roster.

McNabb and Schenn aren't on the top4 on a Cup contender...
Would you trade for Brown, Lewis, Clifford, Nolan, Andreoff, McNabb, or Forbort?
Clifford,Lewis,Nolan, Andreoff would net us a late pick (if not just waive them). McNabb and Forbort might be worth to someone rebuilding. Brown is the tough piece to get rid of...

Penguins send a 3rd rnd pick to Oilers for Schultz.

I think you're completely overreacting. I agree that McKeown and a 1st as assets may have helped us acquire Ladd or someone else, but I think most of us should be willing to let the dust clear before we rush to judgment seeing as the deadline is not today so pretending we're done or just sitting on our thumbs while teams around us get better is just creating reasons to be outraged.

I must be one of the only ones who doesn't think those Chicago moves are anything special. Ladd is a nice piece, and Fleischmann and Weise are nice depth, but neither of those guys strike me as "OMG Chicago got WHO?!?", and I'm gonna post the price again because I think it's important for perspective--Chicago gave up the equivalent of Kempe, Forbort, a 1st, and 2 seconds for three rentals. Would we be okay doing that?

Honestly this is starting to sound like damned if he does, damned if he doesn't for DL with a bunch of posters here.

All I'm saying is that our cup window is closing and with cap space limited moving forward , Dean has his work cut out for him. I wouldn't ever want to see Kempe traded. I think he is better than any piece Chicago gave up. If Kempe is moved I hope it's for someone long term. Lucic hopefully will be re-signed.

We have given up lots of assets in the past 2 years. If you look at Chicagos current lineup it's scary good.

They are going to out score everyone with Kane in beast mode this year.

NHL GMs should want players from the Kings...most all of them go on to other
teams and their production goes up 33-50%.

Justin Williams just topped his last years totals in 20 less games.
Brian Boyle couldn't make it here and had a 21 goal season on the Rags 2 yrs later.
Purcell couldn't produce here and went on to 51 and 65 pt seasons
Matt Moulson couldn't make it here and went on the several 30 goal seasons.
(matters not he was with Taveras - not everyone can score 30 goals)
Way back, Robert Lang topped out at 22 pts and went on to several 70 pt
seasons.
Even Penner went from 2 goals here to the Ducks the following year and scored 13.
Hickey couldn;t make it here and then did decent on the Isle. etc.
Know I am missing others.
Guys like Ronning and others came here and goose egged too. Nagy.
Can't think of a player who came here and did markedly better, numbers wise.
maybe there is one?

So, GMs should look at King players like this: (besides having Cup rings)

Lewis is not a 6 goal scorer...he's a 12 goal scorer to them and a great third line player with 2 rings.
Duh-wight King is not a 12 goal scorer, but a 20 goal beast waiting to happen
Clifford is not a 1 goal scorer, but an 8 goal scorer with 2 rings.
Pearson is really a 20 goal scorer too...and has a ring.
McNabb really has top pairing potential and 10 goals and 30 pts him (no ring tho)
Muzzin? If you can pry him, he will score 60 pts and be a Norris candidate.

Oilers retain 50 percent of Schultz salary in Pens trade

Great post.Deans dumpster diving isn't going to put anything close together to beat the Hawks.

Call up Kempe. Give him a few games. Nothing to lose. He came here from Sweden in April, got off a plane and scored 8 AHL playoff
goals - against the 2 toughest AHL teams in the playoffs - and was even run at and he excelled. At the age of 18.
Not the NHL, but way more than was expected, given the circumstances. Give him a shot.
