Pre-Game Talk: Trade Deadline

All I'm saying is that our cup window is closing and with cap space limited moving forward , Dean has his work cut out for him. I wouldn't ever want to see Kempe traded. I think he is better than any piece Chicago gave up. If Kempe is moved I hope it's for someone long term. Lucic hopefully will be re-signed.

We have given up lots of assets in the past 2 years. If you look at Chicagos current lineup it's scary good.

Ladd-Toews-Hossa
Panarin-Anisimov-Kane
Flash-TT-Weise
Desi-Kruger-Shaw

They are going to out score everyone with Kane in beast mode this year.

That lineup is sooo stacked. Only way the Kings can match it is by getting Eriksson which isn't going to happen.

I guess what I'm saying is color me relatively unimpressed with Chicago. They were already great. Ladd makes their top six more legit but the other stuff is fluff, imo. Toews is having a mediocre year and Hossa is playing through injury and looking his age. Anisimov is a passenger to the Kane and Kane Jr. show, that's the real reason Chicago is doing any good this year. They needed to renovate their bottom six and MAYBE they did it, but come on--Fleischman has scored less than everyone's favorite whipping boy Brown and is soft to boot, Teravainen has struggled offensively, and Dutch Gretzky came crashing back down to earth. In fact, I'm willing to bet if DL got those two instead of Chicago, he'd be getting royally executed in this very thread. And even Ladd has been getting **** from Jets fans all year, so though I'm betting on him being rejuvenated, who knows? Chicago ALSO just got slower...

I don't understand this reverence for Chicago and subsequent deep-sixing of our team. They're every bit as flawed as we are this year and though they've taken measures to fix that they're risky measures, but people are speaking of Fleischmann and Weise as saviors and guys we were after in Purcell as garbage. It's so weird. Grass is always greener.

Call up Kempe. Give him a few games. Nothing to lose. He came here from Sweden in April, got off a plane and scored 8 AHL playoff
goals - against the 2 toughest AHL teams in the playoffs - and was even run at and he excelled. At the age of 18.
Not the NHL, but way more than was expected, given the circumstances. Give him a shot.

a reporter said he was at the Toyota Center yesterday....could be in the happening

I got a weird feeling. All this reminds me of the Gagner smoke from two years ago...I think Lombardi is drumming up interest in order to get other teams buying junk and lowering demand for deadline day. I feel like he might be getting rid of buyers.

Our top 6 has a hole. Pearson is not performing this year. Weise plays tough and is better than most of our bottom 6. Flash I'm not impressed with at all, he does make their team worse. Ladd will perform great with Toews, the guy hits and scores and will be more motivated. He also brings leadership. We haven't addressed our needs. I guess we will see.

Also to the other poster for Schultz and Purcell they would have made our team worse. Purcell sucks and Schultz is a bender who was way over hyped.

Well said. All the assets Chicago used I would call excessive at best. Prices for rentals this year was staggering and since our team used assets at the draft for Lucic, we ain't got nothing left outside Kempe and some spare parts which is doubtfully getting the top-4 dman the team needs. We used the little assets we could and so far looks good with VL and Schenn.

What else do some of you posters want? La picked up VL/Schenn/Lucic/Scuderi for a 1st/3rd/Jones/Miller/Ernhoff/Weal. Compare that to Chicago who got Weise/Fleischmann/Ladd/garbage for a 1st/2nd/Dano/Scuderi/Danault. We got the superior impact player for the whole year (yay chemistry building!) and gave up less assets overall.

Like it or not, looks like the roster is set. Hope Chicago plays St. Louis and Nashville and gets really banged up or possibly that miracle of upset. Once again, looks like a toss up between LA and Chicago though.

I still think the Oilers screwed up big time by just trading the players for simple picks. They seriously need to bring in players who can change that locker room around, and all they get is access to more teenagers.

I might be nitpicking because I agree with most of what you say here but Weise is garbage. He had a hot start to the year padding his stats, but there is nothing that shows me that he can keep up with the third line on a fast-paced Chicago team when prior to this year the guy had 59 points in 258 career games; that's a 19 point player. And it's not like he broke through this year, he just had an insane hot streak to start. He's overhyped because Montreal.

I think their 4th line is beastly. 3rd line, we'll see but their 2nd and 4th lines are beastly. First line? Kings could match it if Lucic and Brown pick up their games a little bit.
