Pre-Game Talk: Trade Deadline

Trading for Scuds isn't going big its dumpster diving. The rumored Purcell and Schultz was again dumpster diving.Dean needs to take the gloves off and get us what we need to contend and not at it safe.I don't think this team as is can beat the Hawks or Caps.I hope i'm wrong on all accounts, but Dean has sued it safe and went blue light special bargain diving.

I think the Kings can beat the Caps with a healthy Gaborik. The Hawks? Would take incredible series from Kopitar, Carter, Toffoli, Lucic, Doughty, and Quick. Hawks are definitely a couple steps above the rest of the NHL right now. Wouldn't surprise me to see the Caps make a move or two to try and catch up to the Hawks. The Caps are kidding themselves if they think they're better.

He wanted to come over before, I'm hoping Prokhorkin will be here next year, since we have no cap space and he can pretty much fit in our lineup right away. The kid is talented , he might be just as good as Panarin. Dean needs cheap reinforcements, why not one of our own. Maybe they reached out to his club and theirs a chance once his contract is up he will come over. He will improve our team tremendously.

Yeah he was going to, until he re-signed with his KHL team pissing the Kings off.

I'm not ready to call it 'dumpster diving' until it actually happens.

Vinny and Schenn have worked out as fantastic value.

Scuderi, we don't know yet, but even if pessimistic, that's a minor move.

I think we're either going to see something big and longer term, or nothing at all.

I think if there's ANY time of year DL has earned a pass and should be getting very little crap around here it's at the trade deadline. He's struck gold repeatedly and really we were only one Sekera extension away from batting nearly 1000. Penner, Carter, Regehr, Gaborik, McNabb, Sekera. What else do you want?

I agree with you. Dean is shopping in a garbage bin...

DL is going for guys like Purcell, because he's reasonably priced. Would you be ok if we got a sexier name player and gave up a Kempe? Chances are asking price is too high for majority of players out there.

I would be up for trading Kempe if the right player came along yes.

I was good with a 1st for Sekera when trying to defend the Cup. I'd be alright with Kempe going too. It's not going to get easier trying to win the Cup. The Kings will be another year older after this season. Other teams will get better, and claw their way into the conversation like the Kings did a few years back. Nobody is going to help Lombardi with his cap issues. For all we know this is the last best chance.

But I also get why Lombardi wouldn't/couldn't do anything, or at least nothing major.

Hawks went out and addressed their needs of a 2C, but they're still going to rely a lot on that top 4 D, something we won't really be able to do unless we give up something really good to get a top 4 Dman. The emergence of Panarin and adding Ladd/Weise makes them deep up front. We'd need some major villainy to win that series, ala Stoll on Vlasic type stuff.

Dean should suck it up , the kid is one of the best players not in he NHL. Dean should learn from Hawks motto. I don't believe in the tired ********, look at Hawks they don't seem tired. They trade the right players and bring in the right players. THey let their draft picks play and contribute. Bring in a stud Russian and change dynamic of the team.

If someone promises you they're going to come over and work for it, then turn their back on you, wouldn't you be upset?

Not for a rental no, if player on term yeah, but who is there? Doubt anyone we can think of, and as said Kings want Lucic back, he wants to be here, can't take term unless getting rid of term like Brown or something, which I don't see happening this season, summer all bets off.

I might have not wrote what I was thinking quite clearly. I want DL to go big as well, but not on the UFA to be. Lucic and Sekera alone cost us 2 1sts, a big RH offensive Dman, Another two way prospect, and a young NHL ready starting goalie. I just think these prospects could have been better used on a Trouba, Brodin type to solidify our defence. On both cup runs we were built from the blueline out and I think we have gotten away from that.

The Kings won in 2014 because they outscored Chicago.

Jones wasn't much of an asset. He was a RFA that wasn't going to get the chance to be the #1 here. Same as Bernier.

Is anyone else trading for Trouba, or Brodin, or guys of that type? Just because you want a guy doesn't mean you can get him.

So, you guys would give up a Kempe for a rental like Hamhuis? If not, who's out there that you guys would give up Kempe for, because I don't really see a whole lot of talent out there.

Mckeown and a 1st for Sekera just doesn't sit well with me. I can't get over it. It was the stupidest trade that is crippling us right now to give up some assets for another playoff run. What if this is our last year to win a Cup with the current lineup since cap space is going to be limited moving forward and we don't have much picks or prospects and the future doesn't look so bright anymore. Chicago just went all out and can beat us leaving us with bitter taste knowing it's only going to get harder from here. I don't see this team beating the Hawks. We didn't even make the playoffs with Sekera, Dean reached way to much with that move knowing there wouldn't be cap space. I love Dean he has done wonders for this team but the Sekera deal haunts me. Mckeown looks very promising and we could have used our 1st this year whether to trade for Ladd or pick a player in this years draft.

Kempe is untouchable IMO except in rare case where deal just makes Kings significantly better and it's a player who has term, for a rental no effing way he gets traded or Mersch.

I don't know what kind of trade you guys expect Dean to make given our current pool of tradeable assets. We have three picks in this upcoming draft, exactly one coveted prospect, and zero roster players that are both valued and can be parted with.

Dean isn't adding anything of impact without shaking up the entire roster, which he won't do. He's lost too many assets over the last several years.

If someone promises you they're going to come over and work for it, then turn their back on you, wouldn't you be upset?

I have 5 businesses. I go through this , yes it would upset me but I'd give them another chance before saying **** it, if I know they're a big asset that can payoff big time for my business. In the business world you will not get far with an ego. I'm just worried our cup window is closing with limited cap space and no picks or prospects moving forward , so if we don't beat the Hawks this year which seems like it will be a hard task, then Dean will be banging his head about the Sekera trade that crippled us and being a pansy about Prokhorkin, the guy wants a guaranteed spot on the roster give it to him. He is the best player in the KHL pretty much with Panarin here. If it doesn't workout then send him back, but give it a try.

I'm upgrading this board to Defcon 5.

So, is DL going to dangle more than late picks and late pick prospects for whatever is left? Doesn't seem like it. I thought for sure someone like Forbort or Gravel was gone for sure. Or even Martinez. Could there still be a big time hockey trade left?

There it is. The obligatory trade Martinez post.

So, you guys would give up a Kempe for a rental like Hamhuis? If not, who's out there that you guys would give up Kempe for, because I don't really see a whole lot of talent out there.

I wouldn't. Kempe has NHL ready skill, speed and size and is only 19. Ahead of where Toffoli was at the same age...or any recent King draftee of several years not named
Kopitar. Can play center or wing too. Projects to about 6'3" 210 as well.

Would only trade him in package for an impact player that is not a rental...so there really is not a deal out there like that now.

last summer, he bought his way out of his KHL contract and led the Kings to believe he was bound for North America, only to re-sign with CSKA Moscow. Enough is enough, we’ve been told, as the Kings don’t plan on perusing him any further.

All I'm gonna post regarding it.

I'm just talking the concept of trading Kempe. I don't know what the specifics would be. Not saying I'd give him away for Purcell, or Hamhuis, but in the abstract, I wouldn't say untouchable.

5 years from now does nothing for me. Not with what the team has done in previous years. I get why Lombardi or Blake would say a 5 year window, but it's just going to be more difficult as the years go by with all the different variables involved.
