It happens every 2 years and is followed by a Cup! 4 years ago Carter...2 years
ago, Gaborik. No Carter or Gaborik out there, so much. or the needed assets.

2 years later...who will it be?

His 5.5 mil cap hit would've been an interesting fit.

what do the kings have left from 1st and top d prospect paid for 16 games of sekera? he wasn't even a righty and would have got that same 5.5 in LA had lombardi caved on the nmc/ntc.

Zykov also out this weekend, did not travel due to injury according to @JoeyZReign on radio broadcast. Practiced on Wednesday

Bissonnette also injured.

Yandles the best defenseman possibly available. He's our man if we wanna match what the Blackhawks have done. The problem is the Rangers aren't sellers so if we traded for yandle we'd have to give up a lot...

theres also that NY said they are holding onto him and not being shopped due to injuries to the rest of their core. (mc d and klein both playing injured)

Meh, Yandle is getting overrated on this board. Guess this market will do that. Kings need to go off the board. I like Hamhuis at the right price, but it won't happen (and that doesn't even factor in the dynamic of his NMC which he may not even waive). Hamhuis next to Doughty would be great.

Hamhuis - Doughty
Muzzin - Schenn

What the Kings need is a skilled winger in the mold of P. Kane that has the skills to scare the defense into accounting for him all times on the ice. Someone to create space so our grinders have room to do work. Someone that can bring you to the edge of your seat when they have the puck. That any shots they take will always be dangerous and won't be blocked.

Every year we won the cup they got the speed and skill guy...Carter and Gaborik
Every year we lost they tried to fix the back end...Regehr and Sekera

@TSNBobMckenzie

So it looks like Teddy Purcell and Justin Schultz will return to EDM with Oilers from SoCal road trip but netminder Anders Nilsson won't.

Thought there was chance Purcell, and to slightly lesser extent Schultz, might've been left in LA. Kings and FLA with interest in Purcell.

I'm starting to worry.

Don't see how the defense is beefed up to where it can carry a low scoring offense.

Don't see how the offense can be kicked up into a high level. It would take Gaborik coming back and playing well on the 3rd line... then Pearson hitting his stride, Brown off the first line. Which means you have King/Brown for one spot on the 3rd line and Lewis on the 4th. Then you still need to add an impact first line wing.

Other possible solution is to pray Brown remembers how to play hockey. Unfortunately AZ doesn't look like they're going to make the playoffs. Brown scored half his goals against them.

Fixing the issues is probably going to fall into the as good as it gets/Duct Tape catagory. Just hope it's enough.

Last time the Kings won they had the Jennings and were scoring 3 goals a game after the trade deadline. Then that took 3 game 7's. Don't see how this team gets to that level in 2 days.

They are tied for 1st at 137 GA with Florida (excluding the fake SHO goals) in 60 games.

Kings just about a quarter percentage above their 2012 and 2014 GA/GP numbers. Also tied for the best defensive unit in the league. That should surprise a lot of people on this board.

Quick, and playing Doughty 30 minutes a night ...

Because it hasnt been the stellar play of McNabb, Ehrhoff, Martinez.

I don't know which Alec Martinez you've been watching, but aside from the last 10 games or so, he's been playing very well and has been the Kings third best defenseman by a huge margin. He's also tied with Doughty with a +16. His expanded role and bigger minutes have been welcome.

McNabb is still a project and barely has two NHL seasons worth of experience.

Ehrhoff started off fine, but progressively fell apart.

Doughty and Quick don't fully account for the best defense in the league.

Also worth noting that Lucic is our Carter and Gaborik acquisition. Putting it that way, we got the best player available. Guy will be a monster in the playoffs.

It's getting the offense going that's the issue. Pearson will probably step it up and go into playoff mode at some point, but I just have zero faith that we'll see any life out of Brown. He needs to be off the first line.

Playoffs are generally against teams that are good at defense. There are going to be few oppurtunities that the Kings will need to convert on. Brown getting first line time with his shooting % doesn't work.

I don't see Kings beating Hawks with the current lineup. Our bottom 6 does not matchup with theirs and our defense will destroy all hope if Doughty has to play half the game in the playoffs. He won't have much energy left.

Okay, so Hawks got Ladd, Fleischmann and Weise. Now it should be our turn before everyone is gone.

Lots of depth/role players left at forward. Not too worried about that. The offense will pick up again eventually, it always does. A small piece is welcome but not necessary.

I agree with RP on the defenceman discussion. Go big or go home. We have more than enough depth dudes, but somebody's gotta appear that can limit those guys to 15 minutes or so a night, and get Doughty consistently below 30. We had that briefly when Schenn arrived, but then Ehrhoff disintegrated and McNabb slumped, so its been a wash.
