So people are upset over $175k of cap space? Seems like a very low risk move just like the VL/Schenn trade.

PLUS if he doesn't retire and he's garabage and gets buried, Kings cap hit for 2016-2017, 175k, Hawks cap hit 1.125M in 2016-2017. That wouldn't be so bad, i'd kinda rather have that.

Also if he retires, he's actual salary for 2016-2017 is 2.5M he'd be giving up not the 3.375 aav (or whatever it is)

Still don't see him retiring...hope he doesn't so Chicago isn't off the hook.

How does Kyle Conner help the Los Angeles Kings win in Stanley Cup in 2016?

He doesn't. I shouldn't have brought up the Lucic deal....when post should have been only about the state of assets to deal now...but the Voynov debacle led to having to trade an top asset #1 pick to replace him with Sekera and then Williams needed to be replaced and Lucic was an upgrade, but took a #1 and Jones and Colin Miller to get him...so assets were dealt to keep up with departures. Since Richards and Stoll were about worthless last year, even Shore / Andreoff could replace them.

The above left DL short of assets to do something now, as the #1 picks in 15 and 16 were to help replace Voynov and Williams....the only thing that could have helped, is if some players emerged to a higher level...be it ANYONE. Not one of Pearson, King, Lewis, Clifford, Nolan, McNabb, Shore, Andreoff, at the NHL level, or supposed high ceiling types like Zykov has raised their game this year. Guys like Forbort, Gravel, Dowd, Auger have developed somewhat...but not a leap by anyone.
Shouldn't even mention Lewis or Nolan, cuz they will not get any better...there was hope that Clifford would become more. His skating improved the last 2 years, but that's all.

I mean a 'leap' like Muzzin, Voynov, Toffoli type of leap that they made by their 2nd year. The Kings have needed 1 or more to make that kind of leap and no one has.
As in King or Pearson emergng to a 20 goal scorer. If one of them was producing like that, may not even need a top 6 forward now...or Zykov stepping into Ontario and scoring 20 goals and ready for a callup, ala Toffoli of 3 yrs ago. Sure, even if Zykov was scoring 20 in Ontario, he may not be ready to make an impact, but at least he would be able to be a top tradeable asset. Mersch may have improved some, but not by a leap, since last year. Most every NHL team has 1-2 players that really emerge to the next level every year and no one on the Kings has. This has not helped the situation.

Friedman saying the Kings are "possibly" interested in Sabres' Chad Johnson. Why in the **** would we want a backup goaltender?

So... how do the Kings add a top 4 D and impact top 6 scorer without spending a first/Kempe... Lombardi has his work cut out for him.

Kings are 1 "Kreider/Price" type collision away from blowing any chance in the post season?

Does Johnson help that?

I mean realistically who's out there that's good? Almost everyone is overrated and gonna cost too much. Kris Russel is average, Boedeker is overrated, almost all his points are on the power play, his 5 on 5 production is just above chris neil for example, he's fast, that's about it.

I think we'd all agree that the answer is no.

Enroth/Budaj would be able to hold it down and get them in, mostly because the division is awful, but I don't think Johnson makes them able to win a series.

I know people are gonna disagree with me, but I think Russell would be a pretty significant upgrade over McNabb/McBain playing 15-17 minutes (current ATOI is 22:52) in a more structured system.

Go big or go home for a top 4 defenseman. A real deal player. Not some scrub. I don't care what it takes.

if you had your choice to go all in (or rather competitive offers for all) on Shattenkirk, Myers, Petry or Ellis who would you choose. or do you have another RHD with term to focus in on?

Kevin Shattenkirk is the best of that bunch by a fair margin. I would give up the necessary assets to get him (which for the Blues would start with Kempe and a first round pick). I don't see the Blues and Kings being partners though.

Muzzin - Shattenkirk as a second pairing would rebuild the defense overnight.

Martinez - Doughty
Muzzin - Shattenkirk
Scuderi - Schenn

Trashcan that kept Sutter out of the locker room.
McNabb

i agree. he would be the only available player I wouldn't even think twice about throwing the max offer at.

myers is interesting. could be odd man out if they stick with buff - trouba (and the money he's asking). they need lhd and top 6 LW.

Myers is meh. Kings already have a giraffe in Ontario.

ya not huge on myers. really not a lot to be really excited for. everyone made fun of the paul martin pick up at the start of the year but can you imagine what his cost would be at the deadline right now when you compare available talent?
