Salaries in the minors don't count against the cap.

A portion does...pretty sure you can't just bury guys or Chicago would have no problem keeping Scuderi in the AHL and not retaining anything.

Hence not liking the trade since Scuderi has another year...even if it is only like $350K against the cap for LA it is saving Chicago slight headaches for next season.

Means the end of McBain most likely and his cap is replaced somewhat by Scuderi next year.

Anyone have any idea which F the Kings could realistically target that could actually have a significant impact? I don't think Purcell is it.. Who else is out there? Eriksson? Seems like a player that could thrive here.. And the Kings and Bruins have done deals in the past. Not sure what it would cost though, at least a first round pick I would assume, plus a prospect.

From what the NESN and other Boston area media have speculated, it starts with 1st rounder and either a young impact top d or a top prospect.

They'd like to keep him, but they are offering 4 yrs and he wants 6 or 7 and also not close on $$, he's seeking the 7M neighbordhood.

So people are upset over $175k of cap space? Seems like a very low risk move just like the VL/Schenn trade.

If you believe he is worse than current Kings options then, yes, there is slight discomfort with the deal.

I think he is done and Schultz (Reign) is better now. I get playoff depth but I feel Chicago benefits the most out of this. Due to that, this trade sucks.

Hope I'm proven wrong. I'm not even "upset", just annoyed.

I guess I'll wait to see him play before I make a call on it. The same things were said about VL and to a lesser extent, Schenn. VL has been light years beyond what anyone thought he was capable of.

Scuderi was once capable of being a good stay at home defenseman. That's not really true of any of the guys in the 6 or 7 spots. Schultz was awful when he was up with LA the last time (not sure if it was this regular season or preseason).

The Kings should seriously consider shopping Lewis, Brown, Zykov, Forbort, McNabb and Clifford.
It was a nice ride with them, it's time to improve the roster or get futures for them...

this is my thought. It's not bad enough that I am screaming mad...I just am shaking my head. Rather have Ehrhoff off the books at the end of the year than scuderi even at his low hit

Did you read the posts that mentioned that it would cost us 175K to bury Scuds in Ontario? Not too much is it?

Besides, my money's on Scuds retiring at the end of this season.

The problem is, what does Sutter believe? Who we think are better options in house doesn't matter because we're not coaching the team. I would've loved to see more Forbort and Gravel, but if Sutter doesn't play them, what can you do? I don't think DL does this deal without Sutter's blessing as well. For better (and most of the time it is) or for worse, Sutter plays who he trusts out on the ice.

Well...I always wanted Schenn and he was never said to be an AHL player. Vinny critiques were warranted...he's still a disaster anywhere but the offensive zone but Shore/Andreoff are disasters in every zone so it is a win for us.

I hope he finds that Luc Robitaille magic where just being a King makes him better because he is past his expiration date.

DL used his powder on last season's Party Boys and now there is nothing left to help this better squad. Sucks.

last I checked Shore was leading the team in Corsi %, he hasnt been a dynamo but hes hardly been a disaster

Have to think there's something else in the works.

Do like Scuds for his voice in the room and hope he'll be a good, steadying influence, and hope for a Vinny style resurrection, but doubt it. But at least we can bury him for cheap next year.

Feels like a precursor move though. otherwise, it's simply a tryout for a different d-man, a retirement Vinny-style deal, or just flat out a strange move with a lot of small moving parts to help two top clubs. I'll go with the last one for now because of Occam's razor--Scuds gets a tryout as a bottom guy here, Ehrhoff there, and they get savings for Panarin's bonuses while we can bury Scuds for cheap next year if it doesn't work and he doesn't retire.

If he was thinking about it because the AHL sucks, it doesn't suck as much when you don't play a full season and only leave California like 3 times the entire year.

Remember when "The Trade Deadline" meant reading about it in the next day's newspaper and calculators weren't required.

Now it's a part time job for a couple of weeks beforehand and spreadsheets to keep track of the Salary Cap. :handclap:

I don't think Scuds would want to spend his final professional career down in the minors.

Hope Scuds get to hoist the cup for the final time, then skate off to retirement.

Don't hate the kid, but his lack of scoring and garbage +/- can toss that fancy stat **** in a bag and hit it with a hammer, and I'm not even an anti-analytics guy.

Just getting a little tired of anything that reflects poorly on a Kings player leading to some fancy stat response...nothing directed at you.

I want guys that can score every once in awhile as opposed to icing guys that should score because an equation says so.

Maybe in the offseason, but getting rid of Lewis, Brown, or Clifford when they're going for 3? For better or worse, that's not Lombardi.

I don't think 3.3M means as much to Scuds, as it does to you.

I think that's wishful thinking on your part while I'm based in the reality that it does mean something to a guy who will never make that much money ever again.

Only thing is his family not being close but, at the same time, we are talking $3MM+ pre-tax that will go towards his family.

You aren't going to see guys that don't fall into that should score area until we get a new coach. Which I don't see happening for awhile.
Heck even our top line guys(Kopi,Carter, Toffoli) are all really guys that should score.
Our system is defense first and take what offense you can get.
And because of the cap you must fill your roster with guys that give potential. Or fit whatever system you play.

Nah, not a wishful thinking at all. I just think that he'd rather be remembered for hoisting the cup in his final year, rather than being buried down in Ontario, just collecting a big check.

And speaking of his family, you know they're out in the east coast correct?
