Anyone have any idea which F the Kings could realistically target that could actually have a significant impact? I don't think Purcell is it.. Who else is out there? Eriksson? Seems like a player that could thrive here.. And the Kings and Bruins have done deals in the past. Not sure what it would cost though, at least a first round pick I would assume, plus a prospect.

but he needs to be out there to have some one hit him from behind..that scares me. Plus he has one year left .

He will probably retire after this year, and even if not, he's a reliable shutdown guy who plays difficult minutes. Ehrhoff wasn't reliable for anything. Both of their CF%'s were similar. Scuderi is a big upgrade between the ears.

Scuderi will have a $1.125 cap hit...that's not so bad.
next year if Scuderi is burried it will cost LA what 350K?

Walk away from $3MM+?

No way. Vinny has made over $100MM and is a special circumstance.

I'd be very happy landing Loui, but that's going to cost Dean, as Boston can treat him as a playoff rental as well if they can't sign him.

Of course it's hard to really know right now, but do you think this means we're not going to sign Lucic in the off-season? I thought Dean would've shed some space for him, not take on more needlessly.

Then he'll either play well or get waived and his salary will be stashed in the minors. I'll be surprised if he doesn't retire given he was already looking at a season in the minors with Chicago's AHL team.

Come on guys, there are other things worth worrying about. Scuderi's 2nd contract year is not one of them.

See above.

You don't shed space at the deadline when you're trying to contend for a Stanley Cup. You load up. That'll happen in the offseason.

Agree, but its all about finding balance 1-6. The real question is who will be the final defenseman in our mix?
It's not about balance...It's about getting rid of crappy, slow, low iq defensmen that are waste of roster spots...

Should've gotten rid of Greene, McNabb, Forbort, Lewis, Andreoff, Clifford, Brown and prospects Zykov, Lintuniemi...

Lol So Dean trades a quick pylon for a slower pylon with another year on the cap and helping a rival for what?Hoping there's more to this bizarre trade.

That would be an insane pickup. If the Kings didn't have to give up Pearson then can you imagine the lineup? Wow.

Lucic-Kopitar-Eriksson
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
Gaborik-Lecavalier-Brown
Clifford-Lewis-King

Too bad it'll never happen.

How are people thinking this helps the Hawks? Scuderi is the better player by a small margin. It's equal. Who cares about next season?

Would you give up Pearson for Loui and a prospect?

They'd need to re-sign him for that to be more palatable. I like Pearson's speed, but he's in Darryl's doghouse and Loui would certainly not be. He was the Stars best player for years until Benn and Seguin showed up.

Dean would probably have to give up someone like Pearson for that trade to work, and that's quite a price. That's speed and youth (7 years) that Dean would be giving up. The Bruins would be markedly worse without Eriksson, so they're going to want a decent return.

Would the Kings be better with Eriksson vs. Pearson? Yes.

Don't think you could resign both Lucic and Loui though.. And the Kings would certainly rather keep Lucic, at this point I think. Although, maybe Eriksson ends up being cheaper, anyways, so he would be a good back up plan, perhaps. Getting him on the team now for a long playoff run might also lower his eventual number and convince him to accept less to stay. Either way, I guess it would depend on the type of asset that would be coming back to entice the Kings to give up Pearson, who is going to be a good pro for a long time, and as you said, is significantly younger.

Maybe adding Scuderi back permits Doughty to do what he does best when he no longer has to babysit for Brayden McNabb?

If Scuderi can play around 17 or so minutes of dependable hockey with Drew, he'll be doing his job.

Scuderi-Doughty
Muzzin-Schenn
McNabb-Martinez

That gives every pairing a puck rusher and a stay-at-home guy. In certain even strength situations, I'm sure Doughty will see shifts with other partners as well, mostly Muzzin. You know Doughty will be getting his 25-30+ minutes. Muzzin will be logging up to 25 or so minutes. Martinez and Schenn will be hitting about 20 minutes, and Scuderi and McNabb will be seeing 17 or less minutes.

McBain drops back down to being a 7th guy, and who knows, maybe Dean is still in the hunt for another big minute eating defenseman?

that's too many minutes. This is not the same player from 2012, Having seen him during that time, it's the heart's willing but the body isn't able at times. He tends to be a liability and his play has declined. I'm guessing he'll be part of the bottom pairing.
He does know the system and coaches, so that's a plus. Good teammate, good in the room, all pluses.
