I am happy with the deadline, Jets and Chevy were clearly spooked by the run this team has been on in the last month and half and caused them to reevaluate their plans on whether this core is worth doubling down on at the cost of futures.

My only complaint is that I would have liked to see us leverage our capspace to get a couple of 4ths but doesn't seem like there was opportunity to do that today but it did exist over the last week. Would have also like to see us unload Stanley but that can be done at the draft.

I know some here are upset at Chevy but this is on the players. They have played like complete ass in the last 1.5 months. The team literally has a lottery team esque 3rd worst in the league record since Jan 16. (while being mostly at full health) No rational or realistic GM is gonna sell the farm to shore up a group like that. If you wanna be mad, be mad at the players.

All in all a decent deadline.
I think people are upset at Chevy for doubling down on this core after last season's disaster banking on a new coach to turn things around and it appears they are no better this year.
That’s what we say every single year . It never happens

Sheif and helly are one step closer to peacing out . That’s all that happened today
Major changes will be forced on the team if Scheif, Dubois and Helly refuse to extend

Looking forward to months of speculating what a PLD and Stanley package will return

Changes in the summer ( this year and the year after ) will happen , 100% guaranteed. And they will happen because they will be out of Chevy's control. He will be forced by the core all being UFAs at the same time to make changes.

He is trying to hang onto what he has for as long as he can. IMO it's because he knows the mess that awaits him in the near future.

That is a change though,

Chevy and the brass have a lot of really tough decisions to make as I am fairly confident that Scheif, Dubois, Wheels and Helle are gone after next season. There's a good chance Nino, Dillon and DeMelo are as well.

So the org has to decide if leveraging our future for a single playoff run is worth it and if it isn't do they have the kahonas to move those players at or before the deadline to recoup as much assets as possible. We should be able to nab a 1st+ for each of Dubois, Scheif and Helle.

Last year, was probably a year too early to make decisions on the direction of this team. This summer the contract situation is much different.

Maybe the org wants to blow up and start over. That is a consideration that should be taken into account. We have seen many of the same core players revert to what they were under Moe. Maybe Bones is confirming things Maurice said to Chevy and the org about some of these guys.

He has a $7 million cap hit. Even at max retention he doesn't look that appealing at $3.5 million.
I wonder if GMs never got past looking for a 3rd party retention? I did find it interesting Chevy mentioned needing room for some of Cole's performance bonuses, and to bring up defenseman down the stretch.

We have a lot of ammo to move out guys like Scheif, PLD, Ehlers, Helle, Pionk can all fetch 1sts+ or equivalent. Guys like DeMelo, Dillon, Schmidt, Nino can all get middling assets. Wheeler will be tough to move but it's possible.

If we can nab like 4 1sts over the next 2-3 years and a number of prospects and assets to contenders for these players we could have a decently quick turnaround. The worst part about all of this is we are starting it after what is likely to be the best draft of the 2020's.

The organization’s choice on whether to go for it or play the long game is always to play the long game. We’ve never made the biggest splash at the deadline, and we’ve never been close to full commitment. We kept all of our prospects. We always pick in the 1st lately. Even without a leveraged future, it’s bleak. And there’s no guarantee that we would be worse off long-term if we actually showed a competitive spirit. Maybe players would sign here.

The fans on Facebook, I seriously don't consider them fans they are absolutely brain dead, are calling for Cheveldayoff to be fired immediately, and are threatening to no longer support the Jets.
To be honest at least we got two decent players at an extremely good cost so let’s just reserve judgement For now. There’s still 20 games to go and playoffs to be had. I wouldn’t even bother looking at Facebook posts regarding the Jets , they are all completely idiotic for the most part. Nobody does research and people just want their opinions heard and it usually ends up being extreme gibberish. just glad we didn’t get JVR

That's why keeping this year's 1st was so important. Also a good chance if PLD gets moved at the draft we get another 2023 1st in the package. 2 - mid round 1sts in this draft could be a nice jump start.

I think with a mediocre middle 6 guy like JVR teams weren't all that interested in trying to find a third team anther 50%. In the end we got an equivalent player for $1.25 million. I'm sure other teams figured they could do the same on the market.

You could also possibly add Stanleybto one of those pics and move up few slots if you had someone on your list you really liked.

They could of easily recouped whatever picks they gave up this year next season if that was the case. Why not go for it snd show the players and fans that this is an organization that wants to win. Instead we get the most vanilla franchise in the NHL.

Yeah we'll see how they navigate this.

I do wonder if Chevy has ran his course at the helm and if we are entering a rebuild maybe it's time for a new leader.

I guess my boss got wind of what I was planning on doing today as he was watching me like a hawk, so I missed out on all the trades that the Jets made...

Did you miss 17/18 and 18/19 when we made among the biggest splashes both of those deadlines. This org did go for it and spent years worth of pics to try to win.

Banking on recouping picks is bad asset management, We aren't Toronto or New York, Great players don't just fall out of the sky and into our lap.
