Assuming St. Louis deal is finalized, I believe Tampa is looking at Callahan as a rental. No appetite for 6 years or $6M per. #Tradecentre

If that's the trade the New York Rangers make that is one of the grossest over payments for old man I've ever seen horrible

Two high draft picks in a deep draft for a 38 year old.

When Bobby Mc and Brooksie say something's close, it's all but oh-crap-we-gotta-contact-the-traded-players done.

If the Rangers can subsequently trade Boyle or Moore for a 2nd, it's not nearly as big a loss.

I'm not necessarily upset about MSL coming here, but giving up draft picks for him. There's a reason why the Ranger's prospect pool is considered one of the thinnest in the league

Je vous confirme que Martin St-Louis est échangé aux Rangers contre Ryan Callahan. #transactions2014

We forget that MSL has always played with a quality center in TB. Lecavalier / Richards and Stamkos were / are top-notch talents while MSL was / has been there. I doubt he'll put up the same numbers playing with the current Richards and Stepan. I do, however, wonder how Callahan would fare in TB.

As @TSNBobMcKenzie first reported, and I've been told same, St. Louis has been traded to the Rangers for Callahan and picks

It will make me grin to see MSL in blue, but this gives us a short window. 2-4 years tops with this guy.

hes still a PPG this year with stammer missing most of the season.

I'm not going to complain because I didn't want to give Cally the contract, but I didn't want to acquire St. Louis that much either. Trading our 1st and 2nd is probably a poor decision for a guy Marty's age. I just don't think he puts us over the top, so I'm not sure why we want to give up a pick that's around 18 overall for a nearly 40 year old. Still, I like it better than signing Callahan to 6x6 and I'm not going to complain. Beggars can't be choosers. Getting ticked about the price for MSL turns it into a no win situation.

He is going strong this season without Stamkos. I see what you're saying for sure, but this year Marty definitely proved that he can do it himself.
