Giood deal for Caps because they got rid of Erat. Neither Klesla or Brown will ever be a contributor. Klesla included to even out salary.

I think Brown will be a solid 4th line pest and energy guy. He's looked good the few times I've seen him and at the PHX/NYI game I went to. Klesla is probably completely done. Maybe he gets a game or two at some point to see how he fits, but I doubt it. You're in PHX, no? You have better insight but I thought Brown looked good as a 4th liner.

It's not such a big deal, IMO, with a goalie. You can hope he's willing to play out his contract and just shift to a backup/mentor role for the last couple of years if he's not starter material anymore. With a skater when they don't have it anymore, most guys can't go from a star scorer to be an effective energy guy and checker on the fourth line. You still need legs for that and to be able to take the 82 game grind. A goalie can play out his whole contract even if it's long because he can back someone up and only play 16ish games a year.

he just doesnt have to retire. he can just sit on the bench and collect his check, or be "injured" and just stay on LTIR...there are always ways around it.

im pretty sure he needs a serious injury for the nhl to allow him to go on LTIR. only way around it is if he just finishes out his deal, but not really playing.

That's a great example of agency bias. Gillis couldn't care less about what type of exposure he leaves for Van in 2021. He knows he'll probably be long gone at that point. Some other GM can have a fun time dealing with the recapture penalty.

they can just bubblewrap him and send him home like the Rangers woulda done with Redden.

They? He is no longer part of Vancouvers organisation and can do whatever the **** he wants to
If he is angry with Gillis & co - he could retire whenever he pleases (say 20121 to rub it in) & raise quite the vendetta here. And there is NOTHING Vancouver can do to stop him (under current CBA rules I might add...)

Yeah, I was thinking about that. It's not his new team that he'd be hurting. He could get vindictive, especially if Gillis is still around (HIGHLY unlikely) and retire in that final year or two for some revenge. Would be pretty funny, actually. They really bungled the whole situation with him and he was a class act throughout it all.

Yeah, I have a very hard time seing how the NHL is going to enforce the Burke rule.

I don't know with a goalie, but looking at like Franzen, Marian Hossa and co, in like 3-4 years, will these guys have a body part that is NOT hurt?

A NHL team / insurance company can't force someone to work more than any other employer. If you can get a doctor to say that you will get problems when you are old / or aggregate something when you get older, you can go on LTIR. Lack ligament in x joint = LTIR is an option. Finding ligament on a 38-40 y/o NHLer is as hard as finding water in Sahara.

Dialogue between NYR and TB on Marty St. Louis trade is continuing. No guarantee it gets done but still a possibility. #TSN #Tradecentre

@TSNBobMcKenzie Multiple draft picks included in the bid for St Louis, including a 1st round pick. Rangers are getting creative in the quest

Bob on TSN: Tampa feels like it would be hard to get done because of Marty's request to only to go to NYR. They are working on a package involving multiple picks. However, we cannot rule out that Callahan may still be a part of this package to Tampa as a rental.

Also hearing St Louis is expected to encourage the trade to NYR today. Not sure if that impacts Yzerman's decision.

Not a fan of giving up the moon for MSL, as much as I'd love to have him. That said, I'm not a fan of signing Callahan to anything more than 4 mill (I know that's unrealistic), so who cares what I think?
