Wait. Rutherford RETAINED 25% and only got a top 12 protected pick, a meh player and a B-level prospect?
Jesus, Rutherford.....................
If Johnson isn't NHL ready at the end of his NCAA, he's super close. Like maybe half a season in Rochester tops close.
I think it's possible (maybe not probable, but possible) that he comes in and is an immediate upgrade to Bryson.
Islanders made a big move. Including a 1st round pick i‘ve been repeatedly told will not move in this draft
Adams is frantically on the phone trying to counter with more exploratory conversations.
Anytime I bring up trading a protected 1 I’m met with people saying no team would trade any first round pick because they believe mid firsts in this draft are like top picks in another.
The Canucks have strangled the situation with extending Horvat so moving him on seems like clearing out part of the discontent in the dressing room. Boeser has been said to be available. Garland is said to be available. It wouldn't surprise if both are shown the door in Vancouver too.
Where? I haven't seen that much around here at all.......if you're talking the main board......well, I mean......yeah, of course they'd say shit like that.
My thought is that UNPROTECTED 1sts from bubble teams (like us, Isles, etc) aren't moving this year.....if they move, they're going to be protected and possibly more heavily than "usual". Teams squarely in the playoffs will trade their unprotected 1sts with no qualms (Rangers, etc).
Or maybe they will try to make the playoffs. Don’t think he is ready
You are thinking of the days when the Sabres had no chance to make playoffs. Playoff teams don’t do that

Others have suggested it or something similar for Meier.
1st top 10 protected, Rosen, Portillo.
I think people are undervaluing Raty here. He's a 20 year old, lanky center that was a PPG player in Liiga at 19.
Once he adjusts to the NA game and fills out, I think there is a good chance he will develop into a solid top 6 center.
it’s either or on Ostlund/Rosen + PHL 2nd+ Portillo
Thinking about the Horvat trade.......this could absolutely be a win for the Canucks. The Isles are going to be hovering in no-man's land this year and next............and at some point the bottom WILL fall out on the Isles.
It's entirely possible that the Isles' pick will be top 12 which means Vancouver will own the Isles 2024 pick period. That could very, very much work out in the Canucks' favor.
Still think Rutherford could have done better.....but there's a sneaky chance for this to be a real good one for Vancouver.

Portillo doesn't have that much value. He's not even in the same conversation as Ostlund/Rosen OR in the same conversation as the Philly 2nd. All 3 of those have MUCH more value than Portillo. Like, it's not even close.
Or are you saying that SJ isn't getting a 1st for Meier.......which is absolutely crazy talk. SJ is absolutely getting a 1st of some sort for Meier.....maybe 2 of them, depending on where he goes.
#Untouchable
Speaking of restricting a 1st round pick, I'm just throwing this out there:
If our 2023 1st round pick is on the table (I don't think it is....but I'm playing devil's advocate)........I don't see the point to a "top 10" protection. Remember -- the winner of the lottery can only move up a max of 10 spots. Even if we go on another 4/5/6 game losing streak........I really can't see us falling into the top 10 of the draft at this point.
So personally, the protections I'd use on a 2023 1st (that I don't think is in play, but hey it's a discussion)......would be either top 5 (looks better than top 10, even if functionally the same) or top 15.
Lance and Joe have no insider info. Those guys are just speculating on the ask, and the Adams 'preliminary call' is what Friendman already said. So, Lance and Joe dropped a Maintenance Day episode today.
They think the ask on Meier is sky high. Like VO+Savoie+Kulich high. It was VO plus two 1st equivalents. If that is where things are at…
Also, Lance said he heard that Adams made a preliminary call on Meier and it wasn’t any sort of in depth talks. And it was kind of the same thing he’s heard with Adams calling the Yotes on Chychrun. He expects smaller deals like a physical forward and a depth D. They were wishing the Wild were out of it and Marcus was available.
On the main boards, in the thread on “Top 4 D to Buffalo” I posited the Buffalo 2023 1st with top 3 protection + one of the Buffalo 2023 2nds (leaning towards the Vegas one, but didn’t specify) + Johnson for Gavrikov and Peeke. Apparently it was an overpayment but the idea of extensions was left out. Ignoring lines, the D depth is now (list form):
Bluest of blue chips….
Not even debating the extraordinary overpayment there.....but why would CBJ trade Peeke? They gave him an extension in September....full well knowing that they have Jiricek. If anything I think Boqvist would be the odd man out -- he got signed before Jiricek was draft, and he's not a CBJ product.
When I looked, Peeke wasn’t updated to having extended. Also that trade return was contingent on extensions by both players. I also have no problem overpaying on long term players. It’s not like both players are old.
I would argue that a PPG in the Liiga at 19 and 1.4+ PPG at the U20s is "showing otherwise". "B prospect" is under-selling him imo.until he shows otherwise he is equivalent to a 2nd where he was drafted. I’m not inflating his value.
Probability. Hie many superstar forwards were drafted outside top 50 in this century?I would argue that a PPG in the Liiga at 19 and 1.4+ PPG at the U20s is "showing otherwise". "B prospect" is under-selling him imo.
What does a prospect have to do to become more than a "B prospect"?
Or is grading strictly based on draft pedigree?

im not saying he sucks. He was recently drafted as a 2nd rounder. I’m waiting till he actually plays 100 games in the nhl to call him anything above where he was drafted.
