Trade Deadline Thread (March 3)

Wondering if the Boeser trade to the Pens also goes down at long last. At least that would cause Rivet/Peters/Biron from beating that broken drum.

Sabres (66 points) are anywhere from the 18th-22nd team in the league.

What I find crazy is that so many posters and fans think the Sabres are 1-2 players away from a contender. We aren't. We need 10 more points right now to be in that conversation. If we were sitting at 76 points right now, we would be in 10th place and my expectation would be for KA to 'Go for it' and leverage future assets to win now.

I love this season, but I won't let a bunch of couch GMs convince me anything but this season as a success.
I don't think there are many people like that at all. We are in the middle of the staircase, not at the bottom, but still 7-8 steps from the top. People don't think we are 1-2 steps away, but they do want us to take one or two more steps toward the goal. Our 1st this year is not going to help climb a step for 3-6 years, unless you trade it for someone that can help you take a step sooner.

Most of Adams' trades come out of the blue, with no rumors. I like that. I think Adams runs a tight ship in terms of leaks.
The Eichel one was no secret to Vegas. The others? Not worth talking about, so no surprise they don't get any attention.

The problem here is that people that love draft picks keep acting like people who want trades only want rentals. I think most of the people that want trades, want them to be good upgrades with term, not rentals. And few post I have seen want to drastically overpay for it.

I for one want KA to start moving out the dead wood on this team and replacing them with better players. The deadline is one opportunity to do it. Do I want to move our 1st for a rental? F no. However, we have 4 picks this year that will not see the NHL for 3-5 years if at all, and are 5-7 years from being consistant reliable players for a playoff push. We have 3/4ths of the now core built. We are at an inflection point........and need to inflect.
The deadline is like the worst time to do that because prices are inflated.

I think you said the same thing a month ago, and said it again a few weeks after that. And again today.
I wasn't trying to talk about that -- just noting that you have to look at the total organizational depth when looking for trade partners, not just the prospects. A team like Seattle may not have a huge amount of prospect depth but still may be willing to trade them since they have a logjam at the NHL level.
I am looking at the D prospects and I am not seeing any that jump out to me as guys to target.

They only have 2 pro D prospects under 27yo today.

And they only have 3 D prospects on their reserve list.

They do not appear to be the type of team that is moving a D prospect for a F prospect at this time.

:dunno:

People don’t waste breath speculating on big future consideration moves

What trade in the last three years could you even be referring to? We knew Eichel was likely to Vegas….and even had talked pretty much the exact package

when you see names like Meier Jeannot Ekholm Chrychrun get thrown around, for the price they went for. knowing that they would help us this and next + season. it's very disappointing seeing that we weren't in on the mix of at least one of those players. especially knowing we could have easily out bid what they went for and we'd still have a top 5 prospect pool in the league.

This tweet summarizes my thoughts.

If you're an asset in the Buffalo war chest, and you aren't on this list, you're 100% available right now to improve the team.

The problem is it’s not accurate.

I can name at least 5 players who’ve barely scratched the surface of their potential; Power, Sammy, Quinn, Krebs and Peterka. They’re all basically rookies.

There is a lot of upside yet to mined from this roster. That doesn’t mean tweaking can’t be done. But the current roster is far from a finished product.

I think we're a few pieces away from being contender long term, but only a couple of those are major pieces or pieces that are hard to acquire.

That's just in terms of roster though. The players that are already core players here also need to develop and improve, and some of them need to mature physically.

I was using them as an example, not suggesting we trade with them. How many times do I need to say this? It's hilarious that you are trying to argue against a point that I am not making. Are you bored?

To be clear -- I am not suggesting that a trade with Seattle makes sense. It's called an example, which is a thing people use to try to make a point.

This is true, but the league-wide standings aren’t really fair because the Western Conference gets to play itself a lot more often which boosts their position. Imagine if the Sabres were in the Western Conference.

I'm just figuring that GMKA is just bargain hunting for term which means, if any trade does drop. It'll be near or after the deadline is reached.

I seen reports that Logan Stanley of Win wants out. But if GMKA didn't pull the trigger on Chychrun, i doubt he's going to outbid for Stanley.

Stanley is visually and measurably bad at hockey. He's bigger than Stillman but about on par in terms of his play.

I expect the biggest trade asset that Adams spends today is either the Vegas or Buffalo '23 2nd.

So, expectations for a return should be within that price range.
