For the sake of argument, say that the Sabres traded a 2nd for Nino, a 3rd for Schenn, and a 3rd for Ghostisbehere yesterday.

What has that cost them? Is the short and long term benefit more significant?

Remember three weeks ago when Adams signed a 22 year old center to an almost $50 million dollar contract? Or in the offseason when he signed another then 24 year old center to almost the same contract? Good times. I remember people ripping Adams for the Tage contract. Maybe I'll find the posts. Not sure I'd consider either being cheap or afraid to make a bold decision but who knows. Also seems like the room liked those deals but why speculate? Because we didn't get Chychrun, all is lost.

The cost is three possibly redundant assets that won’t have an impact, if they ever do, for 5 years. And they probably never do. Two probably never get signed because of contract limits and the TWENTY TWO picks made the last two years

Three guys from three different eras of Sabres hockey all said the exact same thing. passionately.

If only that could compete with the years of organizational brainwashing that has led to people thinking adding good players is bad and drafting 30 players in three drafts that you can’t use or even sign all of is good.

Adding fans who disagree with you are “brainwashed” to the list

If #2 is correct they are failing to understand this is a nothing out of the ordinary draft after the first 5-6 picks and is very weak for defensemen (our single most glaring need). The odds Chychrun is better than any defenseman they could get with the pick are quite high.
Maybe they...disagree with your (our) assuredly shallow, summary opinion on this draft class? I'll trust the scouting staff that appears to have sifted Ostlund out from his mid-round Euro peers who are all looking wobbly at best and that may have found a Pasta at #28 against all odds.

Sky is certainly falling in some people's minds. Adams has shown an ability to draft ascending talent (his past two drafts have been showing good returns so far), trade off talent for good packages (Deals for Eichel, Sam, Risto all showing REALLY well right now), and letting the coach put players in good positions.

He has struggled to show the ability to put the team over the hump of a playoff spot, which is absolutely important, but jesus - everyone take a damn breath and let's realize this team is currently on pace for a season not many of us here expected. Most people here said we were an 85 point team, and we are tracking for 10 points higher. When everyone wanted Quinn sent down, Adams kept him in the NHL, and now he is PPG in his last 7/8 games. Does Adams get all of the credit? No. But he does get a piece of it.

Adams has shown to be good in some areas, and poor in others. So he is average. Are we really so uppity now that we cant appreciate average? When we had Murray and Botts before him? Maybe we all need to be critical, but also appreciate that this is the best team we have seen in a decade and by all means we are only ascending from this point forward.

They lost a game on an ENG. you don’t think that one or two NHL defensemen make a difference there?
Not cheap ones that are Stillman/Bryson level, no.

Luke Schenn's xGF% this season is the same as Stillman's was on the same team. So, even if you say Schenn, I do not think that moves the needle.

Ekholm/Chychrun (aka not cheap adds) are the level of D that would make a difference. But, Adams did not want to pay the asking price for them.

Saying something may or may not work is not speculation. Pretending you are in the lockerroom and saying how the trade deadline is going to impact their headspace is blatant speculation.

If you can’t see the difference, then don’t see it

Trying to figure out if something may or may not work IS speculation.

What we have heard is that doing f*** all has had a negative impact in the room in the past from people who have been there. Whether we take that this team might be impacted by it or not, it's what we have anecdotally from guys who have gone through it.

1.: we haven’t gotten anything while having the most cap and assets in the league to go with the longest playoff drought in history

2.: Good for Adams to lock up someone else’s acquired players.

3. They project to have the or close to the lowest payroll next year as well

4. Go find those posts. Let us know who hated those so we can compare to the people who think its past time to finish building a roster

I don’t think anyone’s claimed that Adams is incapable of player retention

Schenn and Ghost are vastly overrated, IMO.

Schenn had similar underlying numbers to Stillman this season in Vancouver. And Ghost is not what this team needs. He's basically Bryson.

It’s a different approach

“but it’s the better approach because I WANT that”

Who cares if their core they mustered together with big moves ends up not being good or ever winning anything

That loss is not on the depth.
Did you not want Parayko who makes even less sense with the teams timeline wile being more expensive and worse player ?

You just have to go to the off-season thread to see these exact same posters who now are bashing Adams for “not making because this team is good and ready for improvement” bashing him assembling this very team.

Literally @Ace complaining for hundreds of posts about KA for assembling such an uncompetitive team is NOW complaining about KA for not making a move for this current window.

That level of disconnect is amazing. And it just shows there is a dishonest axe to grind

But what Dorion says there is consistent with what Rayzor and Marty have said recently. An addition shows faith, sitting on hands does not. It can impact he psyche of the roster.
I will say this; at the moment, there feels like there's plenty to be upset with KA about. However, the one area that I do trust him with is the temperature of the room. I firmly don't believe that the leadership group would come to him and ask for help and he wouldn't go out and do it.

The presence of actual NHL players on the backend takes pressure off of every other decent player there. Maybe Power doesn’t shit his pants if he doesn’t have to carry the unit, etc

If you could sit down with Adams over a beer and were guaranteed to get candid answers from him, do you think that he'd just disagree with you fundamentally on team building philosophy? Or do you think there's something more nefarious at foot, like bad stuff internally in PSE that we should all be worried about. My guess is #1 but I'm curious.

Has anyone actually looked at the 25/26 cap?

if Power follows Dahlin with a 6M bridge…
Girgs is resigned for 3M per for 3 yrs
Dahlin resigned for 9
Joker or another D acquired and is st $5M hit
assume Kulich, Savoie, Rosen are on the team on ELCs FTSOA at $1M each
2 G on roster making combines 6M

Cap is $86M…don’t see it higher due to Bally sports issues.
3 vacant D, 2 vacant F
Quinn, Peterka, and Krebs on bridges ( what amount?)

they project to have about $17M in space.
if you pencil in the 5 vacant at $1M and the 3 bridges at $10M combined gives them just $2M in space to play with.
Joker should not get a penny over 3

Only thing is, this IS Ottawa's team going forward. Unless Debrincat walks, the Sens are pretty close to capped out. Would I like this final product from Dorion? Ehhh. But they are definitely a playoff team now.

How about Provorov? Similar contract length to Chych right? Higher salary and less production so should cost less? I am not very familiar with his game though. Solid #5, can be placed in your top 4 in a pinch??
