I'm interested in the following from all participants in this great thread:

Now that Meier, Chychrun, etc are gone:

Who would you like the Sabres to add to this roster right now and what will the cost be?

Any cheap option is unlikely to make a big enough difference with a Norris Trophy candidate out.

Any cheap option that is an improvement on Clague or Bryson is an improvement when Dahlin returns. His absence does not preclude the attempt to improve their blueline depth (which is what they seem to have tried to do with Stillman).

He hasn't bled picks thus far to the degree Botts did. That's a plus vs. old management.
I think this off season is going to be a big tell. I want to have hope and faith in Adams but its difficult to keep it going after seeing guys like Neids going for a 2nd or Chychrun not getting a high end prospect. Some of these prices are acceptable.

That being said guys like that are always available but I am worried Adams doesn't have the guts to make the trade when the time comes. Probably echoed by most here.

Couldn’t come up with a specific name at the moment but I’d like a middle six guy who can help contribute while Tuch is out and a legitimate NHLer for the second or third pair

If we want to jump up from metro areas to combined statistical areas Buffalo would still be near the bottom of the list.

edit: If you combine Buffalo, the southern tier, Southern Ontario and Rochester you get ~3.5million people which still only gets us to about 19th on the list
Again statistical areas does not include international territories.

buffalo radio and TV covers all of Toronto metro area. Some cable/sat providers do not pick up buffalo tv but pick up Boston or other us tv markets.

buffalo Rochester and Elmira gets close to 2.84M without counting 4 Pennsylvania counties in the market That puts it over 3M. Canadian population Then is added to that the 1.5M of Hamilton east to Niagara Falls

tests around 4.5M

10-15 are in the 4Ms
6-9 are in the low 6M

including immediate Toronto puts it up with houston at 5 in the low 7Ms

Its tough to think this way because you know nothing is going to happen.

Domi for a 2024 3rd
Parayko for a 2nd+ (Dump him in 4-5 years us paying a 2nd)
Fabbro

While the season is not what many expected it doesn't mean Adams can't at least spend minimal assets to help the team try and get to the post-season. Yes there's still time to do that, but right now where we sit adding Stillman is not going to make much of a difference.

They don't need to make noise in the playoffs, but getting there would be a huge boost for the team. It would also get the players experience in the postseason to see what NHL playoff hockey is really like and start learning what they need to do in the postseason to actually win games when their window opens. On top of that you want to extend Dahlin long term, and he's going to want to extend if the team is competitive. How does it look when most teams in the hunt are addressing needs, and Buffalo does the bare minimum?

If the speculation is true that Adams isn't willing to trade a 1st round pick that's concerning to me. The desire to keep picks to draft more players in one of the deepest prospect pools in the league when 2023 is noted for being relatively weak among D prospects, and very forward heavy. Great so they draft another forward with their 1st round pick? How does that help? They already have too many of them in the pipeline as it is. 90% of them could bust and they'd still have enough to fill the roster.
Define minimal in your terms if you dont mind. He dealt a prospect for a Dman. That's minimal in some minds. I'd love for him to add another body to the group - but I also dont want to deal 1st round picks frankly. Heavy forward class? Great, this league is about bringing talent in regardless of position. We have several bodies in our current forward group that should be upgraded.

I of course want them to make the playoffs. And I'm not thrilled that we haven't seen any aggression during this deadline to upgrade the team. HOWEVER, Adams has shown at least an average GM tenure to date, and this team is currently ABOVE where we expected them to be at the start of the season.

There is still time left for this deadline. Hopefully we see another move. IF WE DONT - I'll be critical to it, but I'll then turn the TV on for the next game and support the team we have. And I wont sit there and say "ADAMS SHOULD BE FIRED AND IS TERRIBLE"... Unlike some others here.

Sissons who from what I've seen would cost a 2nd or 3rd, and maybe Braun or Seeler who would likely cost a 3rd as well. I'm not sure who is left and available D wise, with so much movement this week.

I would take Parayko if it meant not losing a 1st and then try to flip him in a few years trading away a 2nd for someone to take his contract.

With his salary going to 4.8 in the last few years I think we could send a 2nd with him to dump his contract.

We would have a solid top 4 for the next 3-4 years.

Since two of them are around the team on a regular basis, I would imagine they have the access to find out.
It seems more like "back in my day" and not what they are hearing from the team today.

We will see how they play from here on out. But, a lot of the same guys played hard down the stretch last year when there was nothing to play for. Given how close they are to the playoffs, I'll be surprised if they pull the chute.

With all the known assets gone that could be beneficial both now and in future I don't want them to do anything in terms of big assets unless a Saros becomes available. Hold till summer... middle six and bottom 2 cheap additions could be had for cheap

They’re being had for cheap now, by other teams

I wonder at Fabbro getting a change of scenery for something like a 2nd and an extra. I'm not sure he's an improvement on Jokiharju, could be, could be a lateral move. Could even be a downgrade.

You understand that Adams being stupid is worse than Pegula being cheap right?

Pegula might relax the death grip on the purse strings at some point in the future and spend like a drunken sailor like he used to.

You can't fix stupid.

You're actually being more pessimistic than ACE.
I’m in a terrible place. Pessimism is abundant over here. I just find the “cheap ass Pegulas” trope to f***ing annoying.

But what Dorion says there is consistent with what Rayzor and Marty have said recently. An addition shows faith, sitting on hands does not. It can impact he psyche of the roster.
Why do people keep bringing up the 2002 deadline or the 2010-2012 deadlines? Those were aging, dying cores with fatal flaws, so it makes sense their players supported selling futures for nows. We're on the exact opposite side of that curve and we're behaving, get this, in an opposite manner.

HAPPENS. EVERY. YEAR.
Not to this extent. Seeing the tops trying to one up each other while everyone else is selling is new. Normally the teams still in the race try to add something to help them get in. Outside of Ottawa, they are selling.

I want them to make trades as much as most of you do. I also don't think the time is now. This off season and at the draft is when things will happen. These teams that are made these big deals and don't make it will want to recoup some of those picks.

With the way he's playing so far this year I don't see him costing a 1st.

I would like to trade something like VO and Joki for Parayko. Trade away 7.25 mil for 6.5 mil

Edit: looks like Parayko has a NTC so probably scratch that idea...

Fabbro is one guy that could be worth the dart throw.

I do not think he is a slam dunk upgrade over Jokiharju like some people do, but it's worth the shot.

At D:

I'm still thinking Parayko is our best option, but it would have to be for a reasonable price due to the risk. I would be willing to take that risk though because I believe he could still have a few good years left and that would help us a ton. A prime Parayko is exactly what this team needs, IMO, but a prime Parayko is not someone who is available for trade. Current Parayko is probably the closest thing to prime Parayko available.

I still believe Karlsson would help us a ton, but I also understand why most would be against that idea and I wouldn't argue it too forcefully.

In G:

I also am open to the Demko idea, although I don't think that's really going to benefit us much this year and i have a hard time understanding why Vancouver would get rid of him given where they are.

Saros would make sense but what's that going to cost?

It's hard to say whether any of these would be a good idea without knowing the ballpark ask, but they'd all be worth pursuing, IMO.

edit: again, I also feel like Adams is not going to do any of these for the same reasons he didn't do Chychrun, but we'll see I guess.
