Schenn and Ghost are vastly overrated, IMO.

Schenn had similar underlying numbers to Stillman this season in Vancouver. And Ghost is not what this team needs. He's basically Bryson.
Both of those players have a much more expansive and convincing body of work than Stillman or Bryson. They’re better players regardless of what a given model may display.

Ideally though it’s Clague getting replaced

You just have to go to the off-season thread to see these exact same posters who now are bashing Adams for “not making because this team is good and ready for improvement” bashing him assembling this very team.

Literally @Ace complaining for hundreds of posts about KA for assembling such an uncompetitive team is NOW complaining about KA for not making a move for this current window.

That level of disconnect is amazing. And it just shows there is a dishonest axe to grind

If it isn’t clear what my position is…allow me to make it so

Half of this team is bad. all the goalies, half the D and several forwards.

That the other half are all having career years is great. Now go finish building the f***ing team.

Clague is an RFA and the rest are under contract for next season.

The most likely D to crack the top 6 will be Ryan Johnson if he signs with the Sabres.

Outside of that, I would be surprised if Adams does something like trading Jokiharju+ for an upgrade at Power's partner before the start of next season.
This post just gave me heartburn

Trying to figure out if something may or may not work IS speculation.

ONE THOUSAND percent agreed. Which is why I have disagreed with you all saying Ottawa making moves is objectively good. I have simply said we don’t know how it ends up.

What we have heard is that doing f*** all has had a negative impact in the room in the past from people who have been there. Whether we take that this team might be impacted by it or not, it's what we have anecdotally from guys who have gone through it.

Again, agreed. We don’t know how THIS locker room feels.

There is a reason that Schenn is making less than $1M in a league that overvalues RHD.

And there is a reason that the Flyers paid the Yotes to take Ghost off their hands.

Neither one is markedly better than what the Sabres have.

Schenn’s in his twilight and a bit cooked, but he’s still better than Clague. I also wouldn’t trust Philly’s assessment of defensemen for a big Finnish reason

Remember three weeks ago when Adams signed a 22 year old center to an almost $50 million dollar contract? Or in the offseason when he signed another then 24 year old center to almost the same contract? Good times. I remember people ripping Adams for the Tage contract. Maybe I'll find the posts. Not sure I'd consider either being cheap or afraid to make a bold decision but who knows. Also seems like the room liked those deals but why speculate? Because we didn't get Chychrun, all is lost.

Again, too much hyperbole.

Yes, so they could afford Risto. That worked out about as well as we could have told them it would.

Sky is certainly falling in some people's minds. Adams has shown an ability to draft ascending talent (his past two drafts have been showing good returns so far), trade off talent for good packages (Deals for Eichel, Sam, Risto all showing REALLY well right now), and letting the coach put players in good positions.

He has struggled to show the ability to put the team over the hump of a playoff spot, which is absolutely important, but jesus - everyone take a damn breath and let's realize this team is currently on pace for a season not many of us here expected. Most people here said we were an 85 point team, and we are tracking for 10 points higher. When everyone wanted Quinn sent down, Adams kept him in the NHL, and now he is PPG in his last 7/8 games. Does Adams get all of the credit? No. But he does get a piece of it.

Adams has shown to be good in some areas, and poor in others. So he is average. Are we really so uppity now that we cant appreciate average? When we had Murray and Botts before him? Maybe we all need to be critical, but also appreciate that this is the best team we have seen in a decade and by all means we are only ascending from this point forward.
I honestly think you're preaching to the choir and this is where most fans are, even the ones being critical in this thread. The criticism is a) fair; and b) not an indication that we're all suicidal.

How is Adams not turning into Botts 2.0?

While the season is not what many expected it doesn't mean Adams can't at least spend minimal assets to help the team try and get to the post-season. Yes there's still time to do that, but right now where we sit adding Stillman is not going to make much of a difference.

They don't need to make noise in the playoffs, but getting there would be a huge boost for the team. It would also get the players experience in the postseason to see what NHL playoff hockey is really like and start learning what they need to do in the postseason to actually win games when their window opens. On top of that you want to extend Dahlin long term, and he's going to want to extend if the team is competitive. How does it look when most teams in the hunt are addressing needs, and Buffalo does the bare minimum?

If the speculation is true that Adams isn't willing to trade a 1st round pick that's concerning to me. The desire to keep picks to draft more players in one of the deepest prospect pools in the league when 2023 is noted for being relatively weak among D prospects, and very forward heavy. Great so they draft another forward with their 1st round pick? How does that help? They already have too many of them in the pipeline as it is. 90% of them could bust and they'd still have enough to fill the roster.

He hasn't bled picks thus far to the degree Botts did. That's a plus vs. old management.
