If you think the Sabres are the only team in on Meier, then you need to check your work.

buffalo is pretty much who is a posdible playoff team who can afford to resign him without doing other significant moves. If he was a center thrn more would compete but he’s a winger.

i see winger being like thst of RB in football. Unless you are something special they are not worth investing heavy in. Center and D and G matter more.
That kind of fits the eye test to me -- Joker is usually good for 1 or 2 Lydman-esque hand grenade moments per game. If he could get those under control........I like his positioning, his stick-work and his general solid play. Just needs to get those hand grenade moments down.

Also interesting to note the much-maligned Bryson's rank here.

But as Chain said -- giveaways/takeaways need to be taken with a large grain of salt. They're much like hits and different official scorers score them VERY differently across the NHL.

i agree on give/ takes are heavily biased And how they are scored.
He'd be a good fit as a 3rd liner here......but I have no interest in him at his current cap hit. Nearly $5M AAV for the next 3 seasons? That's untenable and would take us out of big fish hunting.

i think vsncouver needs to retain brining him at around $3M or less.
What does Olofsson make? I would take Garland over Olofsson. Not talking trade Olofsson to Vancouver but I would prefer Garland's playing style over Olofsson but seems like Olofsson has gotten himself out of the HFBoards hot seat as of late so to use Olofsson's money on Garland is probably not as popular as saying this a month ago.

i wouldn’t.
The Isles will miss the playoffs, one trade doesnt fix the mess; they looked like a tank team against us.
Ugly Lou Trap is the only reason they re still in it.

isles make/ miss…have to see. I think the Iskes coukd be a difficult to play against in the playoffs.

i don’t see Horvat continuing his production in the Iskes system and style of play. I don’t see there being much residual benefit in his acquisition unless something is done differently Or he develops some sort of fire in a bottle chemistry.

i do think in the metro the Rangers are reeled in making playoffs of rangers, Iskes, pens, and caps for third place automatic bid and the WC spots. I’ve not looked at common games among those 4 teams.

Strikes me as a bit of cognitive dissonance here. You're saying that maybe Greenway is misued.....but then are kind of proposing that he replaces Girgensons or Okposo.......who play exactly like Minnesota WANTS Greenway to play?

I'm 100% fine if we acquire him cheap-ish-ly........but if we want to open him up, we can't be requiring him to play the same style that Okie and Z do. And frankly, I think that we need guys that play like Okie and Z on that "4th" line next season as well.

Again, I'm fine if we get him -- but I don't see a real natural fit, especially if he IS getting misused and needs to play a more skill game. What we need for next year is stout defensive forwards.

Minnesota says no straight-up. Buffalo needs to add something. Maybe like a 3rd round pick or one of our lesser prospects.
Ideally, I feel he can be a 40-50 point 3rd liner and if not he can be a younger more physical 4th liner replacement for Okie and Gus.

I do agree its going to cost more. Let's say its Asplund + a 3rd I'd pull the trigger on that in a heart beat. Problem is who is he going to replace in the lineup? Unless VO or Mitts are part of a deal to get an upgrade on defense, I don't see this move happening until the offseason.

Yeah, totally agreed. This is a summer move that would be one in a hypothetical series of moves to upgrade the team (IE, defensive depth, maybe a long-term Power partner, maybe bolstering the bottom 6).

PLB has talked about Toronto, NJ, and Carolina having as much, or more, interest in Meier than the Sabres.

I don’t have any specific names

Sabres need somebody like Kreider. A net front presence and can tip pucks net front

Don’t know who that is.
For close prospects, Brett Murray is the only prospect that could fit that mold.
And I think that is a push

Needed for pp and for garbage goals. Whack a mole type goals. A big lumax

If only there was a guy rumored to be on the trade block like that...

Although I haven't been gung ho on acquiring Meier, that would be the man you're looking for. He goes to the areas where goals are scored, maybe he's not standing in front of the net like Ryan Smyth but he gets to where dirty goals are scored.

Not based off of the phone call he had with Adams after the trade to Florida.

I do not expect it to happen. But, I doubt any sort of bad blood would be a reason why.
I don’t know about the phone call.
He is 27. I think he has the skills.
He certainly is 1st or second line

Sam called Adams after the trade. He said that he felt bad that they couldn't win and he really believed in the team & organization. Adams told him he was a great player & person. Wished him luck in Florida & said if he ever needs anything stay in touch.

Doesn't seem like bad blood

I would like Meier but if feels too far off. His reported ask on a contract is too high for our pay structure given where they signed Tage. Cost to acquire is still too high as well. As much as I would like it now, it just feels like it will take the offseason to do it.

I would like Chychrun as well, but he cannot be extended for another year and a half, so the cost has to reflect a 2.5 year rental. Then when you do get there, his extension would be a hard AAV to swallow given what you are going to need for Dahlin and Power.

SO ..... the one move I would like right now is to pick up Ekholm and his 6.25 AAV for this year and three more. He slots right in as a defensive top 4. He is a leader and can provide a veteran presence we lack in our defensive core. As he ages he at worst becomes an excellent third pair D that can move up and down the lineup.

If you give Power a 2 year bridge then Ekholm's 6.25 comes off the book right when your ready to sign Power to a full term. If you spend one or two of our four top 60 picks this year on dmen this year, then one of them might be ready to replace Ekholm the lineup when he goes.

Reinhart?:sarcasm:

Boone Jenner checks a lot of boxes but I can't see BJs giving him up.
CBJ is a mess. Not sure what Gaudreau was thinking other than money but dude is gonna finish his career in the basement.

The best thing Columbus could do is turn over the roster and start over.

Reinhart coming back would be weird...

I don't think there is any hard feelings between Sam and the organization but I feel like that would be a huge curveball thrown into the locker room bringing Sam back.

Adams has said from day one that he wants people who want to be here... Reinhart didn't want to here and I completely get it. Problem is you already told your team after you traded Eichel, Rhino and Risto that this is the new core of our team moving forward.

Rhino is a fine player and always loved him in the Sabres uniform but I just feel like bringing him back into the locker room would throw everything off.
