I expect that Meier returns more since he is under team control beyond this season. And I do not think Rosen and a 2nd is equal to Raty and Beauvillier trade value wise.
Raty was a second. Beauvillier was a high cost low producing bottom six
Don’t think it’s much different
Horvat also is a better producer

Value actually higher Rosen equaling to Raty
2nd much better than B

Raty fell to the second because of what happened his draft year and then rebounded wonderfully in his D+1. He and Rosen have similar production in D+2 at the AHL level and Raty plays center instead of wing. Their value is very close and it's not hard to see a team putting positional weight behind who they value more.

A trade involving William Eklund? I know lots of us on this board were high on him during his draft year. How's he doing? I haven't kept up to date with his progression

Can't see the Sharks parting with him, he's one of the few young talents they have in their prospect pool. He's having a nice year so far with the Barracuda and is up with SJ now.

So Timo Meier for Kulich + 1st (top 10 protected) + Mittelstadt? Comparable value?
Flip Ostlund or Rosen for Kulich and I’d probably do it… heck I wonder if you could flip in one of the Russians but I doubt it. Also wonder if SJ might prefer Olofsson over Mittelstadt? But I’d be fine with sending either one.

Horvat is producing a little more this season. But, Horvat is having a career year and Meier is producing an average season for himself.

I think the positional difference is the bigger pro in the Horvat column than how they are producing this season. Especially with questions of how each guy will adjust to a new team and new linemates.

Rosen is the '21/'22 Sabres 1st round pick that I would be most willing to move in a trade.

When it comes to the Mitts vs VO question, it would be really interesting to know both who Grier would want more and which guy the Sabres think would play better with Meier.

If they get Meier, they could keep the Quinn-Cozens-Peterka line together and just adjust the bottom two lines.

Skinner-Thompson-Tuch
Quinn-Cozens-Peterka
Meier-Krebs-[Mitts or VO]
Girgensons-Jost-Okposo

I wouldn't hate that.

The Jordan Greenway conversation on After The Whistle was really interesting, especially since Vanek has worked with him a bit.

I get huge "he is getting misused" vibes from him. Given how Granato has allowed Thompson and Power to play a skill game when other coaches might try and make them play big boy hockey and not skill guy hockey, I would not hate adding Greenway as a low cost gamble that Granato could unlock a lot of potential that is there.

6 pts in 31 games

Reinhart got a what was thought to be a late first and a b prospect in a position of excess for florida and that is with an extension deal in place

Levi had worked out well. And the first is supposed to be a great pick but not at time of trade

Wingers don’t usually get a big haul.

Greenway would be a longer term buy low play.

I think he would be an intriguing bottom six winger that might be able to replace Girgensons or Okposo next season.

The first time I visited USA Hockey Arena back in 2016 I asked one of the guys there who was the best player in their opinion that season and he said it was Greenway. So I've always kept an eye on him. I do believe the Wild aren't taking advantage of his skillset like Granato definitely could - if we make a move for him.

For being an all star. Horvat got less than what was expected. The best piece in the package is the first. Raty partially offsets the high priced low performing player and the retention

'23 1st, VO, and Rosen would be similar to the Horvat package...

Meier has that 10M QO which hurts many teams.Buffalo is one of the few teams who can do that. If the QO closer to the cap hit, say $5M you would have more interest by teams.

So he’s is still in that 1+ yr rental category.

His value is in line with Reinhart and Fiala as a winger And an RFA 1 yr from UFA.

Horvat=Vanek.

Mitts/Olofsson have actual have value. Beauvillier had closer to negative value At his cap hit Bring under 0.5 ppg.

not as a UFA to be. He wasn’t getting more than that. That was the best offer they could have hoped for

I don’t have an issue acquiring him. Not at what minnesota might be asking for.

I wonder what the ask would be.

Given that it is out there that they are not happy with his off ice habits, I doubt they would be asking for a whole lot.

:dunno:

There are enough playoff contenders that could either afford the $10M QO, or more likely afford a Meier extension, that I doubt you see him go for a less than stellar package because of limited interest.

Carolina has roughly $30M in cap space for next season and they could view Meier as the Max Pax replacement, for instance.

On the block

Jordan Greenway

Contract:
Two years left on deal with $3 million cap hit

Scoop: Guerin wants to make a hockey trade, and Greenway could be the big chip. First, he’s theoretically expendable because the Wild could re-sign Brandon Duhaime for probably half the price this offseason and stick him to the left of Joel Eriksson Ek and Foligno. Second, at 25 years old and 6-foot-6, you can bet he’d be an intriguing name around the league. One wonders if Guerin should call San Jose, which is coached by Greenway’s longtime mentor and former Boston University coach, David Quinn, or Buffalo, which is coached by Don Granato, who knows Greenway via USA Hockey. Third, his production this season of two goals and four assists in 29 games has been extremely disappointing. Fourth, his professionalism has been called into question before and that cropped up again Jan. 8 when he overslept, missed pregame meetings and missed the game against St. Louis on a second of a back-to-back.

The comments about "so big" were actually later than I expected in that clip.

Asplund for Greenway.

Who says no?
I like it. I didn't think of Asplund.

Would Guerin want Asplund for a playoff push? He likes his heavy team. I'm thinking Guerin would move Greenway in the offseason. What do we have that Wild need? Cap space? Draft picks?

Greenway shouldn’t cost much. Maybe free
Schmaltz from Arizona maybe in mix too. Great production and cheap

If you want to win now (playoff push, playoffs), then you keep Mitts and VO. Quinn to Rochester and Meier with Cozens. We are assuming (from media rumors?) that Grier has to have a roster player back in trade.

Here's what Granato says about Quinn:
"He's a pretty slight guy, and we're trying to prevent physical wear and tear on him until he can as a young guy, he's going to put more strength and more weight, the stuff he doesn't have quite enough of today to go through the grind."

I feel this is one big way to upgrade the forwards for this season. If Quinn is struggling with the regular season grind and the AHL playoffs last season then he is the one you upgrade. You are not trading him away so you still have him for depth this season.

Balance this with: is this the right decision for the team? Does this get them closer to their goal (multiple years of contention)?
