Going to wake up tomorrow to a Guentzel to Vegas trade with 75% retention for their 2027 1st and 2028 1st
f*** it, I hope they get Toffoli and Duclair too. Hopefully they have a very tough and physical series with Edmonton.

Hanifin was definitely my number one target. Not sure that he would have signed in Vancouver though.

Although Carolina will probably trade for Guentzel he doesn't seem like the kind of player they need. They should be trying to go for Brady Tkachuk or Tom Wilson.

By this logic there is no such thing as a good trade or bad trade.

They got bad value relative to the market.

At the very least, you wait until Friday before you eat shit on a lousy deal.

Well, we know Hanafin had "hijacked" the situation due to him being a UFA at the end of this season, so any team that was going to acquire him purely as a rental probably didn't feel comfortable paying all those assets for him to walk in the summer when he's been leaking that he's going to sign in Tampa. Tampa was probably low balling Calgary like crazy, and Vegas' offer was almost certainly substantially better than everyone else's. Think the circumstances f***ed Calgary over more than anything and it's actually a good deal relative to what everyone else was offering, but that's just my read on it.

I seriously wonder how Guentzel's game will translate to another team. He's been off for quite awhile with an injury, so it's bound to take him some time to get up to speed.

But if the history of TDL day is any indication, somebody will blow the bank for a guy who's basically a rental.

Vancouver, BC.
Pretty sure it was me.
My god, some of these were amazing.

Question: How patient, uh, can you be here Jim? A lot of changes already ... making changes would-would obviously be more - so how patient are you with this group to work - <cut off>

Benning: Well, thi- like, this is wearing on all of us from, y'know, ownership through the management team, through the coaching staff and the players. I- I believe in this group of the players, like I believe that, y'know, and we've shown glimpses .. we're a- we're a fragile team right now whether it's, y'know, we-we .. take a penalty and we can't kill it off, or, uhm, y'know, a bounce go - doesn't go our way y'know, we hit crossbars and posts so I think, y'know, like in the game last night for, y'know, a good portion of that game I was happy with our game - I thought we played really good but then, y'know, the start of the third period dere we, y'know take-take a couple penalties they score on it but we need to be smarter too - we need to play smart and not take those penalties and, and y'know, it's-it's gonna take hard work, it's gonna be, y'know, from our group - a commitment y'know, fff-from everybody to keep working hard, competing hard on the puck and doing the things that we need to do to win games.

Question: But do you feel that you have to stick with these guys and and that <cut off>

Benning: Well what we're doing is we're-we're looking at everything right now, we're ... y'know, we're y'know, have been working with the coaches - the coaches work with the players .. y'know we've been talking to agents n about their players to y'know, just see where they're at and what they're thinking and how we can help .. uhm, y'know I've looked to the outside talking to other general managers from other teams to see what's available if something makes sense, y'know, we'll look to do that .. uh, so we're looking at everything.

Question: Travis has sat there on a number of nights and lamented the fact that the team can't win a faceoff and that's been part of the problem on the penalty kill, are you prepared to run with four left-handed centres where it looks like your opponents are picking you guys apart when they're on the powerplay?

Jim f***ing Benning: Yeah, well y'know when we do our strat - tegic planning in the summertime, um, y'know, our pk, the guys that y'know we had penciled in that were gonna be penalty killers were, y'know, obviously brandon sutter and tyler motte uhm... and then .. y'know jason dickinson who we traded for and highmore and y'know like not having brandon sutter and tyler motte to start the year it's a big loss for us because they're good penalty killers, uh... y'know we traded jay beagle this summer and he - he did an excellent job for us in that area .. and so y'know, but we've had to y'know - that we - we need to make adjustments, we-we traded for lammikko uhm .. and y'know but it's - it's just not the players it's - we gotta ssssw- y'know it's the strategy involved in how we're gonna kill penalties and I think the coaches are working with the players on that so we can do a better job.

i'm ok with Keeping Lindholm. The big picture if we added a proven centerman, although he is struggling. Right now he is still managing to play ok for us. not a liability can win faceoffs and can shut down other teams. We have 3 good centermans and thats one of the ingridients for a good playoff run. Although I really wish they added another Right handed dman.

I never watched much Lindholm in Calgary. Was he always this soft?

I haven't seen much until he got here, and that hasn't been long.

I see that he seems smart defensively, good positional, good stick and good faceoffs.

i say soft as he plays perimeter and looks like he generally avoids physicality in the offensive zone. Soft as in it doesn't look like he takes control and drives plays. Was he winning many puck battles forechecking? He's looked better the past couple games.

I don't dislike the player, I'm asking if his play here is the same as how he played in Calgary.
