Yes you’re right. Though jock tax takes into account games you’ve actually played outside of state. Pretty insignificant.

So if you played 34 games out of state and you make $8M a year, you would then be taxed on the percentage of games you played outside state . So 34 out of 82 games would be 41.4% or $3,312,000. Take California’s jock tax of 13.3% and you’d pay $440,196.

It’s a much different thing when you’re taxed 55% of your entire salary vs 32%.

Edit: correction on the math
But that isn't a true tax difference....it is not a 23% difference. The difference in tax burden is <10% comparing highest to lowest burden states. Tyreek Hill signs a $120 mil deal over 4 years he will save about $9 mil compared to the same deal with New York. That is a real world 2023 example. For an $8 mil contract it's about 700k a year difference. Significant sure but not as significant as most believe. And it's not like this is a new thing about Florida and in particular the Miami area. It's become a thing solely because they are a good team. If they are swimming at the bottom of the league they are on the no trade lists. The extra 700k for such a player means nothing to MOST professional athletes if they aren't going to a winning team.

Unless mgmt still thinks there is a legitimate shot at Guentzel, they need to pivot.
This is Rutherford, Alvin and team. Not Benning and Weisbrod. The former are competent and able to work multiple deals and angles at the same time. The latter tandem can't chew gum and walk at the same time. I also trust this management team to know when to put the brakes on a discussion and not get yourself into years of cap trouble because you liked a player 10 years ago.

Anyways....when are the sports channels and what not going to realize that for the NHL they need to be having a couple hours show every night for deadline WEEK and not some stupid long ass boring show on deadline day when most of the big moves have already happened.

According to Seravalli, Hanifin basically screwed the Flames royally. They had as many as three deals nearly done and he refused to entertain a contract extension with any them. As Seravalli put it, "He doesn't have a NMC but acted like he did."

It pretty much sounds like Vegas and maybe Tampa were his picks and he was going to force it no matter what Calgary did. It really reminds me of Kesler, tbh. Except he actually had a NTC clause.

That’s also on Calgary management for letting his agent talk extension. Should have said no like we did with Horvat.

Consider the details as well.
If that a lot of that $7 mill is in Signing bonus, then that is considered earned in NV. So, say its $4 mill as a SB each year. Then it's $3 mill for the rest in salary. half of that $1.5 mill is earned outside NV and subject to the various state tax rules vs having $3.5 mill.

Have to see the details, but that is also a consideration. However, I'd warn Hanifin that LV has a habit of moving out vets that they have signed, be it Schmidt, Patches, Dadanov, etc.

Problem is... Lindholm isn't a line driver himself. Saddling him with our depth scorer isn't going to make him produce offensively. It also begs the question what are they going to do when Joshua returns. I guess try Lindholm in Blueger's spot?
This is why Toffoli makes sense. You can put the 2 of them together with, say, Hoglander and play them in a sheltered 2nd line scoring role. Allows you to load up the lotto line and leave Joshua Blueger and Garland to cook on the 3rd line.

Or you could have the pairs Boeser/Miller, EP/Hog, Lindholm/Toffoli and mix and match linemates. That way, you could roll 4 lines.
