tanev was such a miss, known chemistry with Hughes, good locker room guy. Watched him this year, still looks solid.

2nd + hunter b would have gotten it done
We were in on Tanev...However, I believe that there was a different rate of exchange for the Canadian teams in on him.

Also, the Flames traded us both Z and Lindholm..Optically, it would look bad on the Flames management if they were perceived to be the pipeline for a divisional rivals success (if we do have success).

They might get a better #8 but they won’t be picking up anyone who forces the existing guys into the press box.

edit: Honestly thought he retired.

Once the Guentzel trade drops, I think we target Ruhwedel from the Pens still. Capable bottom pairing / pressbox guy and a Penguin.

i wouldn't pay to dump mikheyev if we don't need to (ie. to fit a bigger cap hit)

he's an effective bottom-6 winger even if he doesn't drive offense. he's light years ahead of connor brown who is basically playing the same role at nearly the same cap hit.

Why would another team value a guy we want to dump? Sadly, Mikheyev has negative value at the salary we are paying.

So many time the Canucks have overpaid for FA's. This is the 1st year in a long time where our FA signings have all looked great.

Johansen had negative value, but was dumped with a 1st to get a player. It's the same principle.

NJ needs 2way forwards. Whatever bad thing you can say about Mikheyev, and there is a lot, he's a responsible player. Someone that will work in a system Green will implement.

Edit: Remember too the rumour to get Tanev for 1st + Mikheyev. Tanev would then be added to this existing D Corps, pushing everyone down.

Duhaime and Trenin acquired by Colorado. Got much heavier

Feels to me they know Landeskog is good to go for the playoffs and they’re beefing up for another run
They can make another run without Landeskog.

The Avs,Stars, Oilers and Vegas are strong tens built for a deep run.

Sakic is making some smart decisions acquiring grit and skill for the playoffs on the bottom two lines.

Vegas is looking strong now too by using that God damn loophole.

It's running thin out there but Hoping Allvin surprises us.

Hardest part of being a Canucks fan right now is having patience.

We're a few years behind Edmonton in terms of rebuilding our team. Yes, we're having a great season but realistically we should be going all in 2-3 years from now. We still need 2-3 home grown players who contribute.

We are rushing the organic building process

Unrealistic, but I'd like to see the cheaper of Toffoli and Zucker, plus Carrier.

I think NSH likes Carrier more than Fabbro. He's 3rd in ES ice time and Fabbro is 6th...

EDM getting Stecher kind of indicates that NSH isn't trading Carrier, but it may mean that were still offered Fabbro and passed. Fabbro is meh, but could be a 5th-6th guy here.

I don’t think anyone disagrees in theory, but the way the team has played this year has changed things a bit. They’ve earned the right to add and strike while the iron is hot (not recently but our record is still surpassing all expectations). Having our entire bottom 6 outplay their contracts probably wont happen again. I don’t think any of us expect Guentzel at this point but the Lindholm trade in theory was the splash.

Just a fan base that’s hungry for success, that felt like we where positioned well to go on a deep run and watched the teams around us improve significantly. The west now has 5 teams that could have an advantage on us via having the better roster. I think. It’s of us have been enjoying the smug satisfaction of feeling like we had the best team.

It’s a natural response
The consensus seemed that most people didn't want an all-in approach, now are mad that the Canucks aren't spending even more assets in-season to make more trades? Which is it?

I get it's more of an emotional response. But that's like, the point. Let's think before reacting.

If we didn’t have the OEL buyout, I would agree with you: but since we do it’s now or never

But I don’t want to overpay lol!

You ask to much dear sir, to much

In fairness, your always going to “evolve” as you see the prices being paid and I think many of us (myself includes) wanted to see Guentzel join the group.

I think the best thing to happen for the Canucks is if the whole team can get back to playing inspired hockey, like they were during the first half of the season...I think that would be better than getting another guy

I'm pleased that Stecher will be back in the playoffs. (And I predict he'll be getting significant ice-time before the end of the first round.)
