I think the Kap experiment has run its course. Well, I think it ran its course last season, but he's here again, so.
Just move the guy. He's way too panicky for a scoring line role, and he's part of the worst 3rd line in hockey. His sweet spot in a lineup is 3rd liner who can cheat up ice a bit and try to use his skating to create odd-man rushes or breakaways the other way, with a side of PK specialist who is a threat to go the other way if the PP team loses the puck, a la Grabner. But this team doesn't have the 3rd liners to allow him to do that, and he's not utilized that way on the PK so let some other team deal with his perpetual prospect brain before he inevitably plays himself overseas to some D-tier league.
They should have simply never brought him back. It was a bizarre decision.
I actually think Kapanen is most ideally suited to a more defensive oriented role. Use his speed for disruption. He's not small either so he could do some heavy lifting in the OFZ along the boards. I think his offensive IQ is too low and honestly even his raw offensive tools aren't quite good enough to be a waterbug scorer type. But he's fast and heavy enough to be a PIA third wheel on a really good third line I think. But that WOULD require actively working with him and adjusting some aspects of his game.
