Moneypuck has 4 teams with better odds to win the cup than the Panthers.
Vancouver, Toronto, Carolina, and Edmonton.

Hope this gives the boys a kick in the ass. No respect.

listening to the PDOCast on simon nemec, I couldn't help but think "this is Gustaf forsling!"

doesn't really make sense at TDL but a package swapping both in a sign and trade before the draft? he's on an ELC for another couple of years.

too obvious or maybe not the right player but I wonder if there's someone out there who could fill Gus's shoes for a fraction of the price.

From Friedman 32 Thoughts:

32. Florida Panthers: This very fun to watch legit Cup contender has decisions to make. They’ve got cap space, but don’t have draft capital. The Panthers have been asked about Anton Lundell, and when you can win, you are forced to consider these things. I get mixed responses to Hanifin, with some sources saying definite interest, but others saying it won’t happen and they’ll chase defensive depth instead. So, I’m not much help there.

I do think they’ll chase a forward in the Guentzel/Tarasenko mold. The one thing they’ve discussed is how a team with good internal chemistry can be changed by a big deadline addition. They went through it with Claude Giroux, and how that affected the players whose roles changed.

Also, do they go through the deadline with three major UFAs unsigned? Generally, I’d say a team trying to win goes for it and I’d expect the Panthers to do the same. GM Bill Zito’s seen it from both sides and isn’t afraid to wait. The phrase you get with Sam Reinhart is “there’s a deal to be made.” There’s been talk with Gustav Forsling, seemingly less so with Brandon Montour. These are all critical pieces of the puzzle. If they hit the market there will be plenty of interest, but the Panthers are banking on geography and success turning them into Tampa East as a player haven.

Zito thought he could get both Guentzel/Tarasenko and Hanifin? He's smoking some good stuff lol.

Yakov Trenin is probably the best goal scoring scumbag but not sure if he's available with the Preds being in a wild card spot.

Trenin and Novak for a second, third and a prospect ?

Let’s just fool Trotz in his first-year ! ;)

I’m thinking that’s why he wants Hanifin, to lose Montour. Keep Rheino, Forsling, and Haniin, let Montour walk if he wants too much.

That’s why it should and will be a FA-type of acquisition and not a big trade-deadline deal !

If we got something like Tarasenko and Seeler, that would be an outstanding deadline. Unfortunately it would probably cost something like Sourdif/Devine, at least.

I say just stay put. We will need cheaper players next year like Lundell to remain potent and try to sign Reino, Monty, and/or Forsling. We can still go for the Tarasenkos and Hanifins then when they hit FA (after we have won the SC, they will all want to come play for us!).
Our lineup is not super deep, but deep enough. Only do it if the trade partner is ok with prospects/AHL players

Reinhart will be asking $11mil per, making him an impossible to re-sign. Ekblad will be traded because he will be asking also too much when his contract is about to expire and, more importantly, Zito finally gets his chance to remove the remaining member of the country club established by Tallon.

Reino is not going to be asking 11M from us, we have tax advantages that most other teams don't have.

I increasingly think that Reinhart and Montour are gone in free agency.

The silver lining is that this means the team will almost certainly be able to retain the services of the Sunrise Assassin and Boony.

Ofc his agent will be asking something like that and Zito will counter with ~7mil per but in the end the cost of keeping in the fold will be too much.

Montour has not proven as much as Hanifin, who's also 3 years younger.

Hanifin's playoff stats prove that the Panthers do not need him.

This is why a forward addition is more logical. We have forwards in the top 6 that can be moved down to lengthen the lineup.

No room on D unless we have a surprise move. Plus Hanifin is a LHD, he wouldn't replace Ekblad or Montour, unless they think OEL can move up a pairing, I do think he could.

Forsling - Ekblad
Hanifin - OEL

Forsling - OEL
Hanifin - Montour

Just spitballing

Yes, so 9M in the middle is worth more than 10+M in most other cities. Nobody is giving him more than 11M, even teams with tons of cap space.

Hanifin is only 27, Montour had barely played any playoff games by then. Hanifin is coming into his prime right now, and might even get better. I don't think it's fair to write his playoff level off at 27.
