Hanifin is a very good player, it makes sense for a long term perspective if they know Montour is going to be gone. It doesn't make sense to me now because:

1. Florida has nothing to trade Calgary. 2027 first and samoskevich is all they have. Flames have Wolf so would have zero interest in Knight.
2. I am the #1 Kulikov stan here but of course even I will acknowledge Hanifin is an upgrade. But Kuli (and all our defense) have been outstanding, and Florida has Nick Cousins on the 2nd line. I just don't see why they wouldn't get a winger first?

I really thought he would benefit from the Barkov effect when we signed him. It’s unfortunate that it looks like I’ll be wrong about that
EDIT: posted this before reading everyone else’s replies, I know he’s doing good points wise for his career, but I thought he was going to be like one of those super surprise point production players benefiting greatly from barky
I mean, he played with Crosby in Pittsburgh so Barkov propping up his totals should have never been the expectation imo.

Just gonna leave this here.
Some on Twitter have lost their bloody mind saying give Forsling for Hanifin.

Sounds like Hanifin is shortlisting his no-trade list to basically Florida, Tampa, and maybe Boston, LA, and Vegas. If that's the case, give a lowball offer with no roster player, something like a prospect plus a 2nd. If it works it works, if it doesn't then whatever.

But...I'd even be hesitant about that because if we bring in Hanifin now and extend, then it guarantees at least one or even two of Reino, Fors, Monty, Ek are leaving this offseason. In theory I'd be fine with Hanifin for Monty/Ek, but having those imminent departures hanging over the team could disrupt the chemistry while we are on an absolute roll.

Zito sounds like he's very careful about proper fit and prioritizes team chemistry, so I really doubt we'll get Hanifin.

I feel like Alex Texier is a name we don't hear about but could be someone Zito targets.

Talented player having a rough time (like most) in Columbus. Contract is up this July and he'll be an RFA. Value is pretty low right now but he's versatile enough for the bottom 6.
This is also a good add in my opinion. Have liked Texier's game whenever we play them.

Not that I think we’re in on Guentzel, let alone getting him, but he’s obviously a greater need than Hanifin. Also, considering that the Flames are on a 5-0 win streak and have an outside shot at the playoffs still, the price for Hanifin will be astronomical.
