With Deslauriers, if the price is one of the roster rejects or a swap of healthy scratches, it's fine. People just love to whine here.

Yup, Like I mentioned yesterday, I watched a lot of him in Montreal. The guy is an honest hard working 4th liner who won't shy away from any physical altercation and is also capable of killing penalties. At a cheap cost, absolutely I would have him out there as a 4th liner

Didnt you want Carter a few years ago here?

I don't know about Emp - but I made several trade posts here, the cap thread, and the MB about Carter.

Carter is still pretty swift, tons of experience (can be used a joke but seriously this team is tilted far too young right now), and is a beast around the cage. He's exactly [part] of what this team has needed for a long time.

Yeah I was going to say, I thought you were the big advocate for Carter. I was against bringing in Carter at full salary, but at 50% I'm all for it.

I'm just glad the Penguins traded for Carter because Carter is a much better acquisition than Bennett and I don't think Bennett would have been much cheaper than Carter.

Not arguing, just curious - why do you think that?

If you gave me both side by side at the same price, I probably would have opted for Bennett. But that could also be me not knowing enough about Carter.

I don't hate the idea of trading Lafferty for Deslauriers, if only because Deslauriers has shown himself to be a more capable NHL player than Lafferty. Even if only by a little. Getting upgrades at 4C and 12th/13th forward in Carter and and Deslauriers seems like just the right size of a deadline splash for a team that's already rolling.

I think Bennett is actively regressing and is quickly approaching non-NHL caliber level. I'd take a former elite player that is just getting old over a young player who is just bad.

With Carter, he's a well rounded player that can still produce and play both on the PK and PP. With Bennett, he's kinda just a "let's see if he's actually legit" type of lottery ticket.

The only non-retention trade I suggested was for Galchenyuk in like 2019. Since then I've assumed retention based on the Kings' record.

What I like about [the idea of] him is that we can put him as high as L1/2 RW in slow grindy games and as low as 3/4C/RW in transition. He's also capable of being a 5" taller, 50lb heavier version of Hornqvist. I think Sully should use whatever time he has to try him in as many situations as possible.....though there'd be another school of thought that says to get him comfortable as quickly as possible. I just think the potential is high here. Swift enough to hold ground in the middle of the forward group but very accustomed to a grindy/slow game in LA where, if things get tight - he could be used as a net front for Geno/Sid/Teddy. I'd still like another big forward but I'm happy with what we got here.

Too much change for a team that is winning a ton.

Meh, we’ve pretty much been beating up on the bottom feeders the last few weeks. It’s hard to say how they would be doing if they were up against legit playoff teams on a regular basis.

Regardless, I doubt Deslauriers would be an every day player. Just a guy to cycle in and out with Lafferty/Sceviour depending on play and matchups.

So if his family follows him here I guess he's sticking around, if they stay in LA I am guessing he's retiring at the end of the season/playoffs.

Going by pure numbers, agreed. Carter's been worth what we're about to pay him for the last couple of seasons. Sam Bennett's turning into the sort of 4th liner you'd rather not play. I didn't mind the idea of taking a punt on him putting in another big playoff performance, and maybe turn it around from there, but Carter's making a far bigger difference right now.

We have a good record vs Isles/Caps so I personally think we will be fine. We might not win, or we might just win. Now out of division teams is another story, but that's for rounds 3/4 when the bubble I presume happens.

I agree, but I don’t think just because the team is winning a lot right now during the soft portion of the schedule it means they should be weary of tinkering with the roster.

We have almost two lines of players who will not be starting who are better than 2021 Deslauriers.

The one and only point to him... if you consider it that... is that he would fight Wilson, probably consider it his primary job... which it would be.

He has been playing 11 plus minutes per game all season and the most important thing this says is that Anaheim is a terrible, terrible team this season.

IMO.

As I dont think Wilson gives more of a f*** than he did Oleksiak.... nah, dont want it.

We have the 3rd best win percentage in the league since February 8th.

We beat the team with the 1st best win percentage 6 times in that span.

Well Duck fans seem to think highly of him. We don't watch him so we got no idea what to expect.

Deslauriers would be second in hits pretty easily on the team. He fights. He’s defensively responsible in the minutes that he plays. :dunno:

Still, I don't see how bringing in a guy like Carter or potentially a 4th liner who probably wouldn't play all the time really rocks the boat at all. It's not like they're bringing in a player that is going to play 18 mins a night and may disrupt the chemistry of the top 6 or goalie insurance that could have a mental impact on our tandem.
