I have had numerous NHL insiders (execs, scouts, former players and media) tell me lately the #Habs are in "desperate mode" & "scrambling"
I like the word 'deserate' and having seen most of yesterday game vs the Leafs, I'd agree they need something, esp a big center and a top 6 forward. Also , they could use a puck moving defenseman.
That said, I wonder if the Kings could offer anything, take advantage of the 'desperate' part. If they intend to move one of Muzzin or AMart, probably AMart , would Montreal overpay if the Kings don't have a good offer out there? Most teams have about a 5 yr Cup window and given Weber's age, I'd say they have about 2 to 3 left.
THe Habs have 8 expiring contracts this yr , including Galchenyuk and Radulov and Price is entering the last yr of his deal (6.8) and will most likely get a big payload next summer. So, there might be some players or prospects they'd have to move, even if they didn't want to.
Two weeks or so ago, an article covering their needs mentioned some players they might not want to move but would to get some 'now' pieces would be :
Nathan Beaulieu, who is on an expiring deal and will command a significant increase, Lindgren. a good young NHL ready goalie in their system who is a pending RFA , McNiven, a talented 19 yr old goalie prospect and Forward Nikita Scherbak, a 26th overall pick in 2014 who needs some seasoning.
I can't see them dealing Galchenyuk unless Duchene is coming back and not sure that would happen now, when the Habs need the help with playoffs approaching and the Avs seem to be content to wait and hope some team caves in June to their high demand
