Girardi has been literally the worst d-man in the league for several years running particularly when you see his contract. You can hide a forward, you can't hide a d-man.

Think Matt Greene with less footspeed.

ON Sportsnet tonight, in the NHL trade rumors discussion, the Kings came up and that the Kings are looking to upgrade their goaltending and Ryan Miller and Ben Bishop are who they are eyeing up. Bishop would strictly be a rental.

But can they score goals?

It's time for a trade with Columbus. Heh.

Can someone explain to me why the hell we are looking for a goalie rental? If quick plays like he did against the ducks one is not needed. If he is shakey the kings will not make the playoffs anyhow. I simply can't comprehend this.

Miller has a 5 team list, there is no way in hell the Kings are on that list. He wants to start, he won't find that in LA. I think it would be a great disrespect to Budaj and shake up the locker room as well. Say what you want about Budaj but he played well beyond any expectations, the guy has earned a spot on the team as Quick's backup. If you trade for a backup now it shows there is no loyalty to the players and no matter how hard you bust your butt we will still trade you. Which is kind of the opposite of the Sutter's Stiffs side show-guys who are routinely rewarded with ice time yet almost never produce goals, they're not blowing anybody up with big hits, they don't leave their opponents with a crimson mask of blood after a fight and they do not keep the puck out of the net with their less than stellar minus ratings. You trade for a backup goalie with this team that just cannot score goals it would prove that Lombardi and Sutter have lost their minds. "Yah, we need a guy who is never gonna play as long as Quick is healthy". Makes no sense.

I heard this just now on NHL radio. Apparently DL has been shopping him hard for over a month now. I would be willing to package two 1st rounders just to get him off the books. The guy on NHL radio mentioned that if no trade, the Kings will buy him out.

Sabres fan.... Kings and Sabres have been scouting each other for a good month.
How would this work for the Kings:

Gaborik
Muzin
Kempe

for

Kane
Moulson
Kulikov/Franson
2nd 2017

Gaborik has way more term than Moulson (Moulson is Quicks brother in law).
Kings can flip the 2nd to Vegas to take Brown????
After watching the Ducks game, you could use Kane's speed, forecheck, scoring and fighting. Particularily Kesler. Hate that guy.

if LA had any interest in Kane it would probably just be for a dman.

A Moulson Gabby swap would be last ditch.

Need the salary gone more than anything.

Kings couldn't protect either dmen.

I can see Miller as a backup next year.

He's getting older and wants to be near LA for his wife's career I've read.(if true)

Would have take a serious pay cut tho.

I wouldn't want LA to trade for him unless it's for peanuts.

Don't think the staff trust Budaj.

THe Bishop part makes no sense to me, because he will be a starter commanding 7-8M next year on some team. So overpaying (use of the word 'aggresive' in one of the podcasts that spoke to the Kings and this issue) to get him for 5 weeks on a team that has a tough , very steep uphill climb makes no sense.

Ryan- I don't know who is on his list, that would be between him, his agent and the Canucks. Yeah, in the past he has pushed to be a starter. However, he's turning 37 this summer and this will be his last contract. A part of that ego has to realize that at this point in his career, very few teams are gonna pay him to be a starter, too many younger better fish in the sea. However, his wife lives in LA, her job is there and the constant flying with their baby to Vancouver is rough. His agent should convince him, if common sense doesn't, that at 37, taking a job as a backup to a California team is a better way to go

And maybe that is what DL is angling for. Quick with Miller backing up , maybe a 2 yr deal, depending on who is in the Kings goalie pipleline, is what they are thinking.

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

and this morning one of the TSN guys hinted again that the Kings are still looking for a scoring winger (rental) which I hope isn't true. Stop shopping in the overage , over the hill dumpster bin.

I have had numerous NHL insiders (execs, scouts, former players and media) tell me lately the #Habs are in "desperate mode" & "scrambling"

I like the word 'deserate' and having seen most of yesterday game vs the Leafs, I'd agree they need something, esp a big center and a top 6 forward. Also , they could use a puck moving defenseman.

That said, I wonder if the Kings could offer anything, take advantage of the 'desperate' part. If they intend to move one of Muzzin or AMart, probably AMart , would Montreal overpay if the Kings don't have a good offer out there? Most teams have about a 5 yr Cup window and given Weber's age, I'd say they have about 2 to 3 left.
THe Habs have 8 expiring contracts this yr , including Galchenyuk and Radulov and Price is entering the last yr of his deal (6.8) and will most likely get a big payload next summer. So, there might be some players or prospects they'd have to move, even if they didn't want to.
Two weeks or so ago, an article covering their needs mentioned some players they might not want to move but would to get some 'now' pieces would be :
Nathan Beaulieu, who is on an expiring deal and will command a significant increase, Lindgren. a good young NHL ready goalie in their system who is a pending RFA , McNiven, a talented 19 yr old goalie prospect and Forward Nikita Scherbak, a 26th overall pick in 2014 who needs some seasoning.
I can't see them dealing Galchenyuk unless Duchene is coming back and not sure that would happen now, when the Habs need the help with playoffs approaching and the Avs seem to be content to wait and hope some team caves in June to their high demand

Kings played Regehr and Scuderi in the top pair in the past. I think Girardi fits LA's systems a lot better than NY's. Vice-versa with Gaborik.

I just don't see us even making the playoffs, this all seems like a waste.

Calgary is hot; 7-2-1 in there last ten.

St. Louis is hot; 7-3-0 in there last ten.

Have we even put up a win streak of at least 3 this season? We're so inconsistent.

If there is any shot, DL will do what he can to improve the team.

With Quick's return, he is probably all in now. Especially with the smoke from some that his job may be on the line.

I still think he will shop in the dumpsters. Not expecting any thing significant ala Landedkog. More like Iginla.

More than three? Yes.

Then they go on a losing streak of the same length.

As far as Miller goes i believe he wants to move to California His wife is a actress i believe so he want s to be in California . Next you talk about disrespecting Budja ever think he wants to go somewhere where he can start and not backup I think if he wants this Dean would do him a solid and move him along which would mean we would need someone to take over backup spot I would feel good if we got either bishop or miller if Quick needed to be shutdown the rest of the season. However the price of either would have to come down and i think we also would want a forward in the deal with said goalie (burrows or Hansen from van or Boyle or someone else from tampa)

I'd like Brian Boyle in as the 3rd line centre but the price would be too expensive.

Washington is apparently looking for some goaltending depth and have made Galiev available. Flip Zatkoff to the Caps and bring him in and see what he can do. Pretty sure he is a Group 6 free agent at seasons end so if it doesn't work out, no harm.

it will all come down to the 4 games we have vs CGY

so Tuesday is pretty much a must win, and will most likely determine if we're making the playoffs or not

Spoiler alert: it's often reported Kings are on Miller's list. I have to run out now, but a link should be easy to find.

Are you REALLY trying to convince me we'd benefit from Girardi, now that we've sorted out our defense to be mobile puck-movers?

No way Kings are now looking for another goalie. That was simply contingency by DL in case Quick failed.

We have to go 14-7 ...... and 4 of those 14 are going to be against Calgary. We're as good as in!!!! :yo:

We have 4 games left versus the Flames and if we lose the first of the four this coming Tuesday, we are done for? I don't think that is the case.

Don't the Kings have 1 or two games in hand as well on the Flames?

Also, the Blues are with in striking distance. If they deal Shattenkirk, it will be interesting to see how the return could help/hurt their current roster makeup and how things shake out for them going forward this season. Jake Allan has been better lately but he's been inconsistent this year.

We're not done for yet but the play has to improve. Maybe Quick coming back gives them a jolt, we'll see how it plays out.
