If the Kings are trying to acquire a goalie, I'll assume that means one of Quick/Budaj isn't fully healthy.

At the end of the game yesterday Quick went off the ice very quickly even though he was the number one star. Toffoli had to do the end of game interview. Maybe I'm over thinking things, but Quick seemed perturbed by something. Possibly he tweaked his injury?

So if Quick is gonna start most of the remaining 21 games, Budaj is more than capable of playing 3 or 4. So the only thing I can think of, is that because he's played so well, a team has called DL with an offer for Budaj that is a good one. And he wants to acquire a backup.
Other than that, it makes no sense.

Nobody is taking Gabby's $$ or term...unless DL is eating a good chunk and he can't afford to do that.

I agree with you. But why Miller or Bishop? Their numbers are both ok, so you'd think there'd be an actual market for them. Why give up an asset for a guy that would play in 3-5 games and then leave in free agency?

I don't think he's injured. The goaltender rumor started with LeBrun before yesterday's game. I don't think they are related.

leafs fan here, but since it involves your team, a tampa beat writer says "chatter involving bishop, possibly moving to LA", and also a random guy posted on the forum said he spoke to someone who booked a lfight for bishop to minnesota.

Only way Lombardi would be looking at a goaltender is to trade Gaborik or Brown. Miller, Bishop etc. are contracts these teams are looking to get rid of and while they don't have a desperate desire to do so, the goalie market is ****** right now. Who else is looking for a tender? Calgary maybe?

Besides, both of those guys have huge cap hits, money needs to go the other way. If we trade for a goalie, the cost wont be Muzzin or Martinez, unless Lombardi is a moron.

Miller and Bishop are UFA's this year. Neither team is going to take Gaborik for a UFA. The only thing that makes sense is that either of those guys would be cheap to get, because they're UFA's, and the Canucks or Lightning would rather get something than nothing.

This just seems nuts. Why the hell didn't he make a trade a month or 2 ago when we only had 1 goalie and he was already starting to founder? Did Quick hurt himself yesterday?

I'm guessing looking at Bishop has been in the works for a while but DL wouldn't pay the asking price. Tampa probably had to significantly lower the price with Quick looking good yesterday and the Ryan Miller rumors out there. A gamble for sure that DL isn't a day late and a dollar short to help the team.

The acquisition of Hanzal makes Minnesota a solid contender.

I think Fletcher is picking the right time to go for it.

It's now or never for them, Suter/Parise/Koivu are starting to show signs of age.

Agreed. The Wild have a goalie in Dubnyk that has been hot for them ever since he was acquired. I think this could be their year to win the West.

I'd be looking at guys like Hudler, Parenteau or Stafford going into Wednesday's deadline.

All are UFA's at season's end and the price tag shouldn't be too cost prohibitive.

I'm intrigued by Hudler. He has had some health issues this season that apparently have been taken care of and he's getting back into game shape. Wouldn't mind if he was added.

Vrbata would be fine as well but I think the price point may be higher as he's had a nice season thus far.

Dunno if the Kings would want to add another centre to the mix/a guy who is good in the face-off dot but Derek Ryan or John Mitchell could fill that 'need'.

Have to try to get something/anything for Purcell as well. A late round pick is fine, just move him before the deadline.

Tampa was still in the playoff hunt a couple months ago. That didn't materialize for them, so Yzerman was now in "Welp, can't re-sign Bishop, so we gotta get something for him" mode. Plus Bishop would have cost more against the cap a couple months ago which would have made a deal that much harder to complete.

There more I think about it, it's unconventional but I don't mind the logic. After the season, the Kings can probably move Bishop's rights to somebody and recoup a mid-round pick. Personally wasn't that high on Cernak before the 2015 Draft.
