If teams aren't lining up for Fluery, they won't be lining up for Quick either. Both have the same cap hit, but Quick is signed for 4 additional seasons. If that deal were possible, you get out of 2 years of Gaborik's contract, but for the next 2 seasons, you're probably spending $12m of cap space on goalies, and only 1 can play at a time. Although I suppose he might be able to be dealt in the summer of 2018 with a 1st rounder or whatever, with just 1 year left on his deal, to a team that needs to fill cap space. So in theory, you could be stuck with Fluery's cap hit for 1 year.
Work for the Kings, but if Pittsburgh had a better option than taking Gaborik until at least 2020, they might opt for that instead. If they were desperate though, it would make sense for the Kings, whether they had Fluery for 1 or 2 years.
