Huh... interesting thanks. Like what happens if we pickup a replacement level guy and he goes on an absolute tear? Or if there's a disagreement over the PTBNH's value? Does it go to arb or something?

It's already agreed upon. And in this case since you literally cannot trade any player not on the 60 man player pool right now, PTBNL is just a loophole that allows you to agree to trade them but they cannot officially be announced until after the world series ends.

In a case where PTBNL is used properly and not as a loophole around a dumb rule it would also be agreed upon. Whether that's you get player A if this happens, and player B if it doesn't, or you get to choose from players C, D, E, and F, or some variation of, it's already agreed upon so there'd be nothing to arbitrate.

Ahh that's what I was getting at - so they agree on approximate value at the time of the trade.

Ray is legitimately trash this year, but the velocity etc is up so maybe its just a sequencing issue.

No. The specific player (or choice of players) has been agreed to. Either player A or player B or a choice between C,D,and E). "The value" has been exactly set. What Walker does now won't effect the pool of players that could be coming back to Seattle (or even who Seattle may choose, if they have been given the option to choose between a couple guys).

I was going to say, looking at his numbers this year and contract he's basically going to be free right? Bergen is pretty close to that.

Exactly, it's like a conditional draft pick in hockey but with players instead of picks.

In almost every trade that happens at this deadline, it's likely just 1 player already locked in who's not on the 60 man player pool because of that stupid rule.

The Walker player rumoured to be Will Robertson

If Ray could just stop walking guys he'd one of the best pitchers in the league.

Basically free only costing Bergen.

Honestly a bit surprised at the Ray trade from this FO. Guy gives up a ton of hard contact with a ~20% HR/FB rate, and as mentioned above the ball is absolutely flying in Buffalo this year.

Has to be something mechanical, he has a 19.2 GB% this year which is the lowest in the league by a mile.

4-6 more starts left in the season. Shoemaker or Pearson should be ready before then.

Ray gets a 1-3 start tryout. It’s the type of move we should have made.

Ray and Walker were teammates in Arizona for a few years.

Perfect pickup to get some big league innings while our staff recovers from injuries. Keeps the boat afloat.

The Jays are in a playoff spot now and could battle out with the Yankees for that second spot in the AL East.

Whatever pushes them over the top towards the end of the season I’m all for it.
