Can see Schmaltz to Carolina. They have the depth to put him with defensively responsible linemates so he doesn't get hemmed into the defensive zone. They can utilize his strength of getting into the offensive zone with possession that he's elite at. He's a complementary piece.

On the Coyotes, no way he gets resigned after his contract. If you can get something for him that's great. Only concern is further winnowing the team depth for remainder of the season, but we have so many guys who need slots up and coming over the next couple of seasons.

From what was sent to me - Schmaltz was almost dealt at last years deadline and then again at the draft. A couple teams have inquired about him but his cap hit is an issue and AZ isn’t interested in retaining on him since he has another year remaining. If he’s still here after the deadline it could be done at the draft.

Vejmelka - struggled this year but has proven he can be a capable guy. Ingram has solidified himself as the number 1 guy and there’s value out there for Vej, but another goalie needs to come back to fill the back up role until the year ends.

If O’Brien is dealt it’s likely to the East and could be one of them future consideration deals.

Dumba
Bjugstad
Zucker

All will be dealt before tomorrow.

Again, this isn’t me speculating or coming from me, this is just what was sent to me after I inquired.
I would retain on Schmaltz, or add a pick or two to get a deal done. We aren't/can't use all those picks anyway. If this really has been going on for a year, I see no benefit to let it slide any longer.

I love you guys but some of you are so funny.

“What a pathetic effort!” “This team is so frustrating!” “Too many stupid mistakes…unacceptable!” “Where is the heart? Why isn’t AT doing more with this group?” And so on and so forth…but then at the same time…

“No don’t trade any of our players away, they’re great!” “Why are you underrating our players?!” “Now is not the time to trade players let’s wait until they are older and have more miles and have less value!”

I don’t get it haha.
Every player on this team should be available at the right price. But the only way to move ahead with the rebuild besides the draft, is good trading. A 2nd for Schmaltz is not good trading.

I give a 50 percent chance everyone will be demanding Keller and Crouse to be traded next year because we need a first in the 2029 draft because it's a deep draft.
Keller tries hard every night, and is competitive and wants to win…also still young. No reason to trade him. Crouse you could make an argument for trading because his value right now might be as high as it ever gets…could be a nice opportunity to sell high but I’m fine with keeping him too.

How many slots for retention are left for us?

If Carolina is interested in Schmaltz, maybe BA is exploring potential around a Necas (or Jarvis)/Schmaltz swap?
Carolina has a lot of roster to fill next season and Necas might be looking for more than Schmaltz is paid? Downgrading to Schmaltz and a pick might be advantageous when they are wanting to resign Pesce, Skjei, Jarvis, TT and Drury... A bunch of those guys will likely also be looking for their last big contract

Would also be a better show to Keller and Crouse that this team isn't just giving up

IF Schmaltz gets traded, it needs to be for something tangible. We’re past the pick stockpiling phase, schmaltz would need to go for something that addresses the defense. If you trade schmaltz for picks I would not blame Keller and Crouse requesting trades, you have to progress the building part of the rebuild.

BA said we are entering the next phase, so I would hope he means no more stockpiling picks, rather using those picks and players to get better players. I want a good old fashion hockey trade.

Jake, we’re not trading you…
Oh, ok, good. I didn't want to leave anyway.

Depends on the return.
Maybe we can get a second for Jake53.
At least a first.

He’s going to get picks for now, which he will flip in the offseason for players.

Don’t be disappointed if we don’t get any players of interest today. The big moves happen in the offseason
