I want to believe it, but I just don't see us wheeling and dealing to bring in that high end talent we need. Just something about this front office makes me think that its just not in the cards. I mean hell, a competent front office doesn't make that trade for Rantanen to begin with without knowing he's at least willing to sign long term. And if Colorado isn't letting us talk to him beforehand, f*** it don't make that trade. I originally liked the deal because I thought we did the bare minimum due diligence to make sure we weren't wasting our time, but apparently I was giving our front office too much credit.

So now I have zero confidence in them this summer. I have confidence they'll throw money around and spend to the cap, but I really don't have confidence they'll do it in a way that pushes us closer to a Cup.
Meh, we'll see. I still don't have a problem with the trade even without knowing he would sign. They tried many times to move Necas and his value wasn't going to go up. They took a shot with a guy that I can understand why they thought might sign here, it didn't work, whatevs. I'm not even saying they're going out and getting some superstar this offseason (they're tough to get and not always available), but they are still in a position to be aggressive and use every avenue and asset this offseason to build back up a really deep, talented team. I know some think we can't win a Cup without a superstar, you likely included, but I don't see it that way. I've always maintained there's many avenues to get it done and just because one hasn't or rarrely worked doesn't mean it can't. But they have to at a minimum build that talent level and depth back up this offseason with aggression and a plan.

Also, while these last two big moves ended in disaster, it represents the types of moves many were dying for a few years ago. You, among many other, lost their minds when we didn't get Meier. Turns out we dodged a bullet on that one, but at least we had the mentality to go for it a couple of times since then like so many wanted. I certainly applaud it and hope they keep on being bold but of course hope they know a guy would sign (like when they tried to get Tkachuk and he supposedly would) or get someone that is already locked in.

We'll see what they find this offseason. There are a handful of guys worth signing that'll be out there. You always see guys get moved around the draft, though who knows what that looks like this offseason with the cap rise. Deals they couldn't pull off today may lay the groundwork for moves in the offseason. It wouldn't be a surprise to see them circle back with the massive cap space on guys like Pettersson or Rakell, or a Karlsson type they had interest in before. But they need to be prepared to aggressively pursue some bold avenues of building up the talent and depth again and we can get right back to top tier Cup contender instad of middle tier.

This team has thrown away an exceptional amount of talent for several years. NJ wouldn't even be a team without Cane castoffs. I get tired of listing them and people excuse them as cap casualties but a well run team would have had negotiations prior and been flipping some of them for lesser players with term. They seem very casual in certain areas and over the top micro in others. It's very confusing.
Keep in mind that all those good dudes they got from us, plus the guys they got sucking and drafting at the top of the draft, plus winning the offseason a couple of times, hasn't got them shit other than a smack down by Jordan "Wayne Gretzky" Martinook. Canes, even in a difficult retool season are better. We still must be doing something right.

lol "sometimes I think the final score isn't reflective on how we played because we just couldn't score."

Well, then let me tell you Stankoven's finishing ability will certainly help that
"We didn't get swept by Florida"

Good to see the mentality in this organization hasn't changed. f***ing idiots.

I still feel like he would have been a home run addition for us, and he's struggling because his style does not mesh well with NJ at all
We'll never know, but I've said before there were several articles at the time that suggested that he would not do well in most places because he would not have the offense run through him in a way that it did in SJ and that he might not be able to play the same way on a team that wasn't garbage and you couldn't just cheat to boost offense all the time. It could just be he's one of those guys that feasted off being the best available dude on a bad team. Look at how many points Erik Karlsson got being that dude after pretty much all else was gone.

And an RD to pair with Slavin.

And maybe Gibson instead of Andersen, or a different goalie trade (Demko?). Most of the UFA options are off the market now.

They have the draft capital to do a lot this offseason either in trades or FA signings.
RD that’s a great fit with Slavin (as in someone he doesn’t have to carry) may be our biggest priority. We obviously want a true 2C but if we don’t raise the level of the defense we’re going to get caved.

Meh, Jankowski is okay for depth I suppose. I'm no Jost fan, so I'll take it over him if that's the case. Wasn't he the best player in the draft according to Jay Feaster? That's gotta count for something.

god, Jay Feaster, what a throwback to that f***up. That O'Reilly offersheet deservedly cost him his job and the Colorado GM who matched it, considering that they would have been first up to claim him off waivers at the time IIRC.
