Interestingly, Jankowski is not a rental; he is signed through next season at an $800K cap hit. He's likely our 4C moving forward.

I guess I have to clarify my question. Are any of you concerned with the fact you have a cup contending team but you now don't have Necas or Rantanen and instead have Stankoven who projects to help more in the the future than right now. I would imagine Brind'Amour and veteran players are pretty frustrated.
They needed a 2C and a top pair RD to be a cup contending team in addition to either Rantanen or Necas.
This wasn’t their season.
And with the way the team was playing since the trade, I think they will be happy to be rid of the Rantanen drama.
Also sounds like Rod is going to love Stankoven. If he can fill that 2C spot they will be well set up to build a much better team next season.

The current construction is not a Cup contender. We all knew this going into the season, and were happy to be distracted for a few weeks when everything inexplicably went perfectly. But the reality check is now three months long, and it’s clear that we will make the playoffs but be a dark horse, and not much will change that.
Best case scenario, this group wins one or two rounds, maybe in dramatic fashion against a team they needed to believe they could beat, and they take that into future years with a better-built team. Worst case, they just suck and it ends quickly.

I don’t know one of the best games the canes played since the rantanen trade was the one he didn’t suit up for. Yeah it was against Utah who aren’t world beaters but it’s not like this team is chopped liver. Just getting that whole funkiness over with may invigorate the whole team

I’m not going to buy what a terrible finisher Stankoven in based on his first full NHL season. He scored 24 in 47 games last year as a rookie in the AHL and scored a ton in junior. I doubt he’s a 6% shooter again in his career.
Wouldn't surprise me...they're crafty and skilled like that.
Sounds like MK's toying tanked a lot of potential other deals. The intern's feed hints at some other things that were kinda in the works. The poster even sent his gf a Zillow listing trying to entice her to consider Raleigh.

Wish that turd would've just signed the contract last night so we could've been rid of him and taken care of business today.
If the Canes made the trade then came out with Rakell and Jankowski I would've been okay with that.
Bonus points if they could've added futures to Burns to land Dobson. Heaven know they have enough ammo to get it done.

Yea I mean would Rakell really push them into cup contenders? Probably not. If they weren’t sold on him then I’d rather wait until the summer so they can target who they want or maybe guys become available that weren’t today

I’m not too upset about Rakell. He’s fine, but somehow I don’t think the back nine of his career is going to be anything you’re sorry you missed out on.
More than anything I’m just annoyed at Rantanen making things as difficult as possible on absolutely everyone involved in this process.

Yeah, he really did. Colorado before he was traded to us, then to us with being so indecisive on extending with us, then turning down Dallas's offer early today, and then finally making a decision less than 3 hours before the trade deadline.
If he wasn't gonna extend with us because his girlfriend thought Raleigh wasn't big and glamorous enough for her social media page, then making a f***ing decision already instead of waiting so many weeks to make up your mind. He could've decided he wanted to be traded even as late as yesterday and that would've been enough time for Carolina to make a big trade afterwards.
Also, he did such a disservice to his supposed good friend Aho by not giving our front office more time to make a big trade; which Tulsky confirmed they were looking at multiple trades after Rantanen but didn't have enough time due to cap reasons.

Rakell will still be around in the summer if we need him and he’s actually available. I don’t think it’s an issue this year. Unless he got traded today and I missed it. Of course Crosby needs linemates so they should probably keep him and just reshuffle. Rebuild doesn’t make sense.
