Oh also one last thing

Tulsky was on 99.9 today and outright said the delay on closing the deal was a lengthy delay in Rantanen signing the contract with Dallas. That delay caused us to miss out on other deals we wanted to make and "......that is why we have the roster we have today"

And yes, that was a lengthy pause on the radio before he said it.

Just shows how little they pay attention

If our club mortgaged the future, there would be good reason to laugh at the Hurricanes. Neither the Guentzel nor Rantanen sagas led to us mortgaging our future. In fact, in the Rantanen case, we actually GAINED futures.

I'd love to hear what those deals were. Either way Tulsky put us in that situation. Not even sure why we played him the night before.

Welp, the Canes and Tulsky are absolutely the laughing stock of the league right now. Every single writer seems to be taking turns using us as a punching bag

Fun times
And I care about their opinion why? Several said we wouldn't make the playoffs why should I care about their garbage opinions

As someone that's been a fan of Rantanen for a long time, a lot of this experience certainly sours me on him. Of course, he was a little bitch when signing his big Avs contract so I guess it's no surprise he was repeatedly that way during this process ultimately.

Yep, the way it came across was as if it was one last screw you to the Canes from Rantanen and his agent on the way out the door

Boeser possibly but again I’m not trading for him unless there’s an extension. Hes most likely walking July 1 anyways so we will have the money if they wanna go down that road. Hes also 28 and already turned down 5 years and 8 million apparently. Definitely not signing him to a 8 year deal

Been injured too much and not a line mover per SN panel.

I still remember the NHL Network’s preview of the Metro before the season and all they talked about was how tight the top spot would be a battle between the Devils and Rangers.

Barely even mentioned the Hurricanes, let alone the Capitals. Still makes me laugh every now and then in retrospect…

Also, as we begin to move on from the deadline I begin to think about how many of the deadline winners are probably more likely to be knocked out in the first round than we are. I'm not saying we're a lock to win given how things have gone, but we are likely getting a home first round (which we are great at home even this year and always in the playoffs) and facing a green Columbus team, a crippled New Jersey team, or a lesser Rangers squad than usual. That would leave us feeling better than fans of one of Toronto/Florida/Tampa that are guaranteed to lose and probably one of the really good Central teams. Another team or two could easily end up with a tougher matchup as well.

Looking at our roster and our prospect pipeline, I don't know if we even need a line mover as much as guy(s) who can simply snipe if we set them up.

Guy could be the most dead-weight, slow AF, 60' player...if he can light lamps, we've got table-setters for days.

I'm fine with not picking up another forward. Boeser would be the best piece, but would easily cost a 1st +, and it's possible Vancouver wasn't going to move him after already losing a big piece of their offense in JT Miller. A guy like Rakell - how much of an upgrade would he be on what we already have? Would he bump Jackson Blake or Roslovic to the 4th line? Or would he play on the 4th line because Blake/Roslo are better fits for our team? Most of the guys on the move today probably don't improve our team that much, or would improve our team but at a high acquisition cost. We already have a decent amount of new faces on the roster still acclimating to Rod's system.

There’s a good chance Necas or Rantanen are going home after round 1 and we’re still playing. We’ll see just how big of a impact Necas has in the playoffs will be interesting to see

I think they’ll most definitely revisit Pettersson in at the draft, especially if he struggles the rest of the season. Could also see them sniffing around Lindholm. Boston maybe motivated to dump that deal this summer, and Lindholm has more to offer still, I think, than what he’s shown this season.

As for the rest of this season, I’m psyched. It’ll be fun watching how Stankoven fits in, if Hall can start producing points and not worrying about what they’re going to do with Rantanen

Boston would need to pay a significant amount of assets to dump the Lindholm contract (at least a 1st round pick).

Please stay away from other teams' mistakes and broken assets. If EP continues to struggle, the most logical explanation is this level of play is the real Elias Pettersson and he's never going to be worth his contract.
