Speculation: Trade Deadline Discussion Part VIII - loud noises, a gasp, and a thud

Someone actually needs to be waived immediately upon the acquisition. Either TG is late with the news, the trade isn't official, or something's fishy.

All the GMs on this board are out in full force today.

It's pretty entertaining watching a group of grown men cry and moan over the lack of movement/+minor trade on Lou's part.

Not to be an ass but isn't that part of what this board is for? People vent on here everyday, and then you got the trade board where everyone channels their inner GM.

I don't understand the people bemoaning the fact we didn't trade a defenseman.

Salvador is not tradeable given he is the captain.
Volchie has a no trade and is paid a ton and stinks. Who would bother wanting him?
Tallinder is a constant injury risk. Would have some value if not injuried so frequently.
Zidlicky would be a rental for most teams (1 year deal) and I think the team actually needs him given his offensive skill and PP ability...

I think everyone wants to keep Greene, Larrson and Fayne.

The most we could have gotten was maybe a 5th/6th round pick for someone like Tallinder (the only tradable asset that would make sense to deal) and that kinda trade would be available in the summer.

I'm fine with this...

You are right I think. Caps have some deal done. I'm curious right now.

On other news the Gaborik deal surprised me. Sent him to Columbus haha. Did the Rags get anything good in return or just spare parts?

I don't mind the Sullivan deal. But I would like to see the young guys like Tedenby and Josefson get called up before this abortion of a season ends. I'm tired of watching Sestito and the other lifeforms get ice time up here.

It's most likely the trade is pending a physical so it's not official yet, but who knows. Lou still isn't present according to TG. Strange.

You missed the part where I said TODAY. Two of those guys you mentioned were today, correct? And now my next question... how many of the defensemen we had available (and be honest here) are as valuable as the ones you mentioned? And I mean this in an objective way. What makes you think that today we were going to get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Tallinder or Volchenkov? If all we were going to get was a 5th or a 6th rounder... is it really worth it? Or would you rather we trade Fayne so that we get a half-way decent pick out of it? The going rate WAS a 2nd/3rd round pick for these defensemen, but it clearly wasn't today. And there were still a LOT of defensemen teams were saying were available/were shopping, and how many of those guys got moved today? The market dried up on defensemen. Simple as that.

First of all value-wise it doesn't matter whether they got moved 72 hours ago or today, they got moved and for good returns.

Second of all why are you assuming no defensemen got moved 'today' because the market dried up? The market didn't dry up, it was empty in terms of availability. No defensemen were really left available. There are only a limited amount of sellers to begin with and some teams got their shopping a couple days earlier than others.

level head? Is it working right?

2 are UFAs. So you have your 6. And then you want an immediate UFA to help you in the draft? Or move Sal or volch at the draft? That moves you down the order. If we buyout volch that's even 1 less.

At the draft Tallinder & Vlochenkov are 2 that can move. Like it or not Zidlicky will be back on this roster next year. I like it personally

Greene, Larsson, Zids, Fayne, Sal, Tallinder/Volchenkov, Gelineas/Merrill/Urbom? Lot of young depth to fill in that 6th spot.

Dude it's so easy to make trades. I do it all the time on NHL 13. It's not rocket science.

So easy right? Just select the player (s) for each side and click the "a" button a few times. Done.

No one has any idea who Lou was trying to move and what the market was like. The team is set for the rest of the year and will hopefully add kovy in ~2 weeks. Get behind the group or don't watch.

I think you're right. I guess we can try to move up in the draft.

Sigh.

Sorry. My sarcasm was clearly poorly executed.

I'm with you.
