You can make the argument that it would have been smart for Lou to offload some defensive depth, but in no way should that argument be made with any ferocity. You're taking about a draft pick that will have a 15-25% chance of becoming an NHL regular. Yes, we need draft picks, but continually complaining about this situation is really complaining about very little in the end.

I like the Sullivan add. Should help our PP.

There is no appetite on this board for your reasonable thinking.

Tell me how active the teams around the league were today in trading picks/prospects for mid/bottom pairing defensemen today?

I guess you missed Murray, JBo, Regehr and even guys like Redden/Hannan being moved in the last week.

There's absolutely no excuse for us to still have eight d-men, none. It cost us what we didn't get back in a trade AND it cost us vis-a-vis our own young d-men's play/development (Fayne/Larsson).

Everyone before: Lou sucks! He didn't make a move
Everyone now: Lou sucks! He made this stupid move

Guess this isn't good enough for you people...

Nah, but seriously, I can't imagine people would have been happy no matter what happened.

Luongo is a great interview. He even said his contract sucks! Hard to dislike the guy.:laugh:

This is why I hope he never comes to the Devils. I don't want his sense of humor (and twitter) to be taken away :(

Lou really loves to bring back former Devils. I actually don't mind getting Sully back, especially for just a 7th.

The issue there though is that top 6 depth doesn't grow on trees. Find me a team in the league that feels they have enough top 6 forwards. Its always in demand and either you have to get lucky drafting one or you have to pay a ridiculous amount for it (see: Minnesota for Pominville). Just because you need it doesn't mean you should pay exorbitant costs for it like what it is this deadline. Better off finding value this season (Loktionov, D'Agostini) and trying to score that piece in the off-season if possible.

I'm not really arguing we must get a top 6 guy though man. I'm just trying to counter all the ''Well if a defensemen gets injured we have 2 more'' argument. We need forwards more than defensemen.

Lou was scouring the bargain bin today.......Sullivan doesn't even fit in the lineup ANYWHERE...He is not top 6 worthy anymore, he is not going replacing Bernier...Is this the 4th line LW?? Kind a silly to play him there...This is pure stupidity.

So having an extra defenseman is somehow causing us to perform worse? I don't really buy that argument.

The issue with this team lies at forward, and trading away our defensive depth for picks in no way improves our current team.

I would agree if Fayne wasn't sitting for 3 weeks and looking like a scared dog when he plays. Hell the D all play like that.

Couple in that the forwards cant score and we're screwed. Our D breakdowns are just a nice icing on our lotto cake.

Can't believe no one wanted to trade for our terrible, overpaid reject defensemen! Why can't Lou force other teams to make trades?!

tbh I like Sullivan as an addition, adds some nice depth, but we need a top 6er. This was a nice move by Lou tho, have up jack for a good player in return.

Is it possible to still sign Sykora? (serious question)

Good price for Sully. Really like the speed and quickness he brings :sarcasm:

But for real, he can help a bit but not expecting much

Pretty much.

Didn't seem like he wanted to part with any assets and sullivan came for nothing.

Don't know how sullivan is going to help anywhere since this isn't 2002 anymore but what can you do?
