i dont understand this mentality. take a look at the picks we hold, take a look at the penalty thats surely coming, take a look at albany's forward lineup, then come back to me and say 'so what, we have 11 billion defensivemen. no need for picks.'

To Lou, the potential of having defensive depth for the rest of the regular season and in the playoffs apparently matters more than getting a 2nd or 3rd round pick. That's a reasonable argument to me. Conversely, I wouldn't have been upset if Tallinder were dealt for a pick, but it doesn't matter too much.

Its ok because our defensive merry go round will give us a nice lottery pick. Ups those odds for NHL player though eh?

So having an extra defenseman is somehow causing us to perform worse? I don't really buy that argument.

The issue with this team lies at forward, and trading away our defensive depth for picks in no way improves our current team.

Fair enough, top 6 depth. We can afford an injury to one of our defensemen before a forward too is what I'm saying. Urbom is a better call up than Sestito. One of our best defensemen was sitting for over 3 weeks.

The issue there though is that top 6 depth doesn't grow on trees. Find me a team in the league that feels they have enough top 6 forwards. Its always in demand and either you have to get lucky drafting one or you have to pay a ridiculous amount for it (see: Minnesota for Pominville). Just because you need it doesn't mean you should pay exorbitant costs for it like what it is this deadline. Better off finding value this season (Loktionov, D'Agostini) and trying to score that piece in the off-season if possible.

Zidlicky is not the one that should be moved. The redundant dmen should be moved: Salvador (never), Volch (**** contract), Tallinder.

Inexcusable for Lou not to move 1 of our dmen. I dont care if it's for a bag of pucks. It is not good to have a revolving door on D during the seasion with players constantly getting scratched and pairings getting flipped.
