Guy actively says he couldn't handle the media and everyone is going to bat for him saying he didn't sign here because our players can't win and he wants to win but he goes and signs with the Nashville Predators, yep!

The TO mediots brainwash fans and then fans thinks its gospel.

ROR was a waste here but here we go again wanting old , slow players that offer nothing. I cant wait till Luke Schenn retires so I can finally stop seeing ......trade for Schenn he was great with Reilly posts

They don't really need a big add, depending on what your definition of a big add is

Disagree. 2 major holes at least 1 needs to be filled if we are being serious. Matthews been on IR half the year. We lose one of JT or Matthews our 2nd line C is... Domi? Our third is who, Holmberg?

If there are no centers, we need Tanev insurance if he gets banged up. I would rather get the center as I trust our goaltending a lot defensively. But one of these needs to be patched up

Tre has almost no time remaining and Shanahan has less. They will do something. A center with term and a RD man. No centers with term have moved. Desharnais and Schenn do not make them better and they couldn't accommodate Jones who is a massive gamble. The only thing I see they could have done so far that was a safe improvement was Nelson and costs aside, no term.

L Schenn, R Strome and Laughton. I don't like any of them much but those are who they may have been actually looking at. And ROR of course until it was confirmed that he said a club with Holl, Brodie and Kerfoot would never win anything:laugh:
I think Braden Schenn makes them better, but it's certainly not by an extreme amount. I'd only want him retained at a reasonable price so that Toronto can go Matthews / Tavares / Schenn down the middle in their top 9 and and move on from the likes of Kampf, Jarnkrok, Dewar, etc in the off season.

I'd be fine with Tavares retained at a number that starts with a 6 and the beginnings of a forward group that looks like the following:

Knies-Matthews-Domi
Addition-Tavares-Nylander
Cowan-Schenn-Grebyonkin
McMann-Addition-Lorentz

Some of the prices being paid are absolutely insane, when we all know only 1 team can win the cup.

Didn't realize Tariffs on players were a thing this year but apparently they are.

Sounds like Rants is going to get taught a lesson on his contract asks.

We can only hope that Mitchy is watching Rants getting doors slammed in his face and asks a reasonable number.

……. And if he doesn’t, Treliving slams the door in his face too.

Okay so depth. I wouldn't consider that a big add per say.

He has $100k in cap space (more now with Raves waived), few draft picks, limited prospects and multiple NMC of his stars. I'd be forced to be timid too under such circumstances. In addition to dealing with playoff chokers. I'd prefer to roll the dice with Patches back on the 4th line if healthy than overpaying this year.
This isn't just a reflection of this season, it's a reflection of his entire tenure as a Leafs GM as well as the latter half of his tenure as Flames GM

He hasn't made a single deal of significance in Toronto and it's been almost 2 years. I don't know how that is even possible

This is where we strongly disagree. I think we are substantially better. The Leafs have gone to several Game 7’s despite Samsonov and others giving away games. This year, we have a legit #1 goalie in Stolarz/Woll, we have a #1 shutdown RD in Tanev which we haven’t had. OEL is a legit #4 D that we haven’t had, and Berube is a far better coach than Keefe. Knies is pacing 30 goals as a power forward, that’s an huge plus and Marner has a lot more confidence. These are things we haven’t had in prior years. Matthews is the one guy having a down year, but you don’t know he won’t be right for the playoffs. He’s still pacing better than a point per game. If we add another 3C on top of what Tre has already done, I think we are simply better than Tampa. Florida and Toronto might be two of the best four teams in the league, so not adding at this deadline is just a flat-out mistake. I think you are holding on to the mistakes of past years too much. This team is clearly better than last year by a good bit and better built for the playoffs too.

I never thought about how elite we are compared to last year, how many points are we up on where we were this time last year?

Shanahan’s a dead man walking. Not way Pelley lets him make desperation trades to try and save his job.

Fair, but for what it’s worth, imagine how many more wins we would have if Matthews was having a healthy season and has ~20 more goals right now
