It's encouraging to hear Treliving take such a big leap, though. He was willing to take a big shot and got close to landing it

Would it though? The bulk of Tavares's money is allotted to Rantanen. Marner gets a couple million dollars bump on his current contract, with a rising cap and ridding of a contract of a lesser player (ie. Domi) covering the extra salary being added.

I think both could be fit in, and I cannot think of a better foursome in the league than had it been Matthews, Marner, Rantanen and Nylander.

If Luke is what a 2nd gets you just as well. I kind of thought Murphy from Chicago would be moving but the Jones trade probably nixed that. Not that he would have gone anywhere today for just a 2nd rounder. With ROR not going anywhere I am happy with todays work. No rentals for once.

He grew up a TML fan, die hard. Matthews is his best friend, hometown kid. Lots of money coming off the books.

I fully expect him to be re-signed IF he performs in the playoffs, if not then I'm ok with letting him walk. He's not getting paid 11-12M for regular season stats, get it done in the playoffs or it's time to move on.

With that being said, with how well he's played this season, I think he'll do fine in the post-season. It'll be a deal after the season is over, rising cap.

From the reporting it seems it came down to Rantanen saying he wanted to play in Dallas, so I can only assume that meant he was only willing to sign there.

But TBH if I'm Carolina I'd still take the Dallas offer over the Leafs one if it came down to that. (Listen to Friedman on the Kypreos show for his take - Basically, Stankoven is a better fit for the Canes)
