IMO you hope that this works:

Knies - Matthews - Marner
McMann - Tavares - Nylander
Domi - Laughton - Jarnkrok
Robertson/Holmberg - Kampf - Lorentz

Don't like Robertson on the 4th line but he deserves to play IMO.
Robertson is 1000x times better than Jarnkrok and has played well with Domi. Put Jarnkrok on the 4th line cause he doesn't produce anything in the playoffs so he can be on the shutdown line.

Sure that works too. I'd prefer that as well, just expecting them to want Jarnkrok to get more ice time in the playoffs.

My ideal lineup.

Knies - Matthews - Domi
McMann - Tavares - Marner
Robertson - Laughton - Nylander
Lorentz - Kampf - Jarnkrok

McCabe - Tanev
Rielly - Carlo
OEL - Myers/Benoit

Stolarz
Woll

That is a really good team

I'd bet my money Berube creates a checking line with Laughton.

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Nylander - Tavares - Domi
McMann - Laughton - Jarnkrok
Lorentz - Kampf - Robertson (he's gonna be pissed)

Laughton and Carlo are good adds, but this team has struggled to score in the playoffs and just dropped two 1sts and two prospects on depth and defense. That said, at the end of the day if the core doesn't up it doesn't matter.

Potentially makes more sense long-term, if there's significant retention on Carlo that gives us a lot of flexibility in the next two offseasons with an exploding cap.

Edit: To inject a bit of positivity, people were pretty excited at the potential of Luke Schenn return. Carlo is a signifciantly better player than Schenn and with potential retention is on a steller contract for two more years. Could be an elite match with Rielly without having to play the toughest assignments. We paid a lot but that 1st and Minten weren't going to be suiting up in April.

The MO on the leafs is that we didn’t defend well and had suspect goaltending. The low scoring games weren’t coincidental, it’s by design by our opponents. Keep it all the outside, bc the Leafs D or Goaltending will break. This is why Tre focused on these two areas. How many close games have we won this year? We have the talent to come through, but needed to embrace the low-scoring puck dumping ugly hockey that works in the playoffs.

The Carlo trade excites me as I wanted him for years, reading the main board makes me sort of nervous but really not a fan of the fact that we traded our next two available 1st leaving us with non until 2028 and we are still arguably not favourites

💯 he is going to be central to a checking line

That bottom 6 isn't scoring anything. I prefer balanced offense we have the depth now

EXACTLY the team I would ice in the playoffs. It makes Domi actually useful and lets us roll 3 lines to counter the depth we would face....and even if it goes wrong a couple of games in there is chemistry all over the lineup for changes.

Would have to set it up soon though like Keefe did last season and before we got wrecked by injury.

I dont think Stolarz is going to get pulled the same way Samsonov has the last 2 series either.

The trade board thinks every player the Leafs have/acquire is awful. They are not objective.

Laughton and Carlo fill major positional needs for us for sure.

Unfortunately, neither of them provides much offense.

The team that can't score in the playoffs didn't add production, so we're going to be really counting on guys like Domi, McMann, and Robertson to bring the fire we know they have in there somewhere.

....and the core guys, of course....but that's a given.

Carlo or Seth Jones 25% retained? They got similar returns. I think I'd rather have Seth Jones...
But it is really not just Carlo and Seth Jones bc this still 3.5mil diff in cap space.

It is more like Jones plus another player making 960k Vs Carlo plus 4.5mil player.
Let’s say that 960k player is Timmins as that’s the average player in that price range and the 4.5mil player is Tanev.

Carlo and Tanev all day.

Those would be late picks, so damned close to 2nd rounders, and they can always acquire picks from other teams in the summer or at next year's deadline.

The best part is that Brad understands how we are reffed in the playoffs and made sure he got 2 important penalty killers.
