He added two top 4 D and a middle 6 fwd, ditched the Ritchie deal and kept all top
Prospects and first round picks, so yes. I think he conducted some good business and avoided blowing his brains out trying to keep up with the jones’

I like Gio and Lyub but come on they are not top 4 dmen.

This is a good team and if our top players perform, another piece won't matter. At the same time would have liked a forward and a goalie. Risking Campbell returning to form. I liked getting Blackwell and he will help. We need one of Abruzzese/Knies/Robertson to hit instantly in the NHL as that would solve an issue.
I liked getting Gio and he helps us defensively. Thats now 8 NHL D and thats something we haven't had.
I give it a B.

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion they get knocked out in the first round again. Ultimately the fate of this team rests on the big 4's shoulders, and whether or not they can actually show up for the playoffs this time around.

That’s an assumption that a first was needed to make a trade for a goalie.

How are you feeling with Mrazek coming back in net during the playoffs?

Considering Campbell is almost certainly going to be the starter, the Leafs are probably not concerned about Mrazek.

Also, Mrazek is a goalie who has shown he can go full-on Shestyerkin in short bursts. He is not a .880 goalie, and we are betting on him not being a .880 goalie going forward (including the playoffs if he is needed at that point).

And I applaud those moves, but not addressing goaltending has pissed away any chance this team had for a playoff run. Our only hope is either Soup gets healthy and returns to form or Kallgren goes on a Binnington run. The odds are not in our favor.
What goalie option were out there? Maf is as unpredictable as the two we have, plus questions of he’d of even waived. Maybe Kakkonen from minny, but they got Middleton and a pick out of it. What roster D would’ve worked there? Would they have been interested in Dermott? Doesn’t seem that’s the type of D man they wanted.
I wanted and was crying for a goalie solution as loudly and anyone else on here, but if there wasn’t anything to do that made sense, so be it.

You think Dubas did a decent job ? You think this team has a chance against any of the Atlantic division rivals ? You're kidding yourself. I'm a die hard Leafs fan but look at things objectively. We were already a step behind Florida/Tampa and they both made huge upgrades. We were on par with Boston and they just got better, we did nothing to address our goaltending. If you think this team can do something in the playoffs, I applaud your enthusiasm. But I don't see that happening.
We have a good record against the Teams that are ahead of us...we also have 20 games left. If you are truly rationally looking into things and emotionally then you should realize there is more to season. One win streak by either team and the entire dynamic of how we look at this team changes, win or lose you look at whether they are consistent throughout the entire duration.

Right now it's as if... not looking at the last 10 questions before you are finishing the test, and assuming you already failed. But if you think that will save your mental, yea you might as well take a step back and enjoy your time.

Trust me, if this team wins a round nobody will be happier than me. If you feel good about this teams chances against Florida/Tampa/Boston/Carolina, I mean good for you. But from an objective point of view, we are massive underdogs in every single one of those potential matchups.

See you next year as in this years result is already determined with our goaltending issues, I'll still watch the games. Hell I'm going to 2 games this coming week lol, but I have a very difficult time believing this group can do anything with this putrid goaltending.
Back peddle any faster and you'll be moon walking.

Varlamov might have, but maybe the deal wasn't there.

No other goalie out there, especially with the price for MAF, is any better than taking a bet on Campbell and Mrazek bouncing back, and Kallgren/Woll being able to carry the torch if they can't.

Seems like we are betting on some of our prospects as well.

Yep. We will make the playoffs, and Campbell will be ready. I don't see an option out there worth spending the assets that has a better chance of working out than Campbell.

It's impossible to speculate. Maybe Reimer cheap could've helped as insurance, maybe cheap wasn't an option for him. Even then, it will come down to Jack.

Rackell to Pittsburgh
2nd and some players

Domi to carolina

Rangers with a bunch

Boston florida loaded up
Tampa did what they had to

And leafs get a guy that was coming in offseason for free

Oops
all good but leafs are not playing every one of those teams. The rangers might face Pens so that eliminates one of those teams loading up. Carolina would play the winner and then 2 of those teams are gone.

Boston, Fla, and TB 1 one those teams are gone after the 1st round most likely. So in reality the Leafs need to beat 1 team that is loaded up to start not 6 of them who loaded up

We're going to need a miracle in net to get past the first round. It's up to Campbell and Kallgren now.

It's a shame because this is the deepest team we've had outside the crease in the Matthews era.

Deepest team we've had in a very long time. Not just the Matthews era.

But we don't have a competent goalie right now that give us anything more than sub .900 hockey.

I wanted a goalie. Stolarz or something.

I just find it funny that the same people and media talking heads who are saying we should have mortgaged our 1st rounds and top prospects, would then be the same saying we were fleeced. Or that we should have waited until next year, as Florida and Tampa just maxed out and we won't beat them this year.

We go in as underdogs and as the saying goes, anything can happen if you make the playoffs.

Sakic has dealt his top 3 RHD prospects in a span of 9 months.

Maybe I’m out of touch but I feel like these prices are crazy, a top prospect and high pick used to get you a first liner.

It’s like Tampa pulled it off with Coleman and Goodrow and now everyone has the same idea. I’m glad Dubas has held onto Knies and Robertson.

We are f***ed unless Jack Campbell returns to form.

We just won't win a round against BOS, TB, or FLA with our goaltending.

I love Gio, I like that he's a Leaf, but it was probably third on our list. We completely ignored our secondary scoring, and our goaltending, which are our biggest needs. Lyubushkin and Blackwell good pick ups as well.

I just don't get how we don't make a move for a goalie.

Leafs' biggest need is the big4 to show the F up in the playoffs both offensively and defensively. Everything else is just noise

So who’s at the top of everyone’s wishlists, both to bring in and to ship out?

In:
  1. Chychrun - an obvious pipe dream but he’s young and developing and already pretty great. I don’t want to lose Sandin and the 1st but that’s the likely cost.
  2. Rakell - He’d cost the 1st plus, but he’s also be the best player and of the Atlantic Four have picked up.
  3. Forsberg - Is going to cost a fortune but if he can be extended than he’s worth it.
  4. Klingberg - Nice right shooting PPQB with great size, his offensive instincts are better than Mo’s and he brings it in the postseason, but ideally only if he can be extended.
  5. Miller - I don’t like the way his name was in people’s mouths when Vancouver was having that locker room bullshit a few months back, but he’d be an excellent add to the top six and has term, but he’d cost a ton.
  6. Smith (VGK) - Could be a low key excellent add for cheap, with his injury, need for a new deal and Vegas having to save money. Mrazek (@3), 4th, Prospect?
  7. Copp - A great guy to add some grime to the forwards and he’ll put up points.
  8. Soucy - Loved what I saw against Seattle, left side banger.
  9. Lehkonen - Is great but is going to cost way more than he’s worth. Montreal would want Robertson and a 1st, f*** that.
  10. Garland - He’ll cost a ton and he puts up points but yay, another tiny forward who may or may not show up in the playoffs.

Out:
  1. Mrazek - The Petr Mrazek experiment has been an abysmal failure and his money is holding the leafs back from making moves. Out his ass with a pick and a touch of retention and I’d take a low asset back.
  2. Holl - Not that he’s been bad even if sometimes he is bad, but he’s now 6th on the Depth Chart and if Dermott gets a 3rd Holl might even get a late 1st. Liljegren-Brodie-Lyub can handle the RS details and I think Gio also played some RD.
  3. Kerfoot - Again I like him and would like to keep him, but if his money is the difference between Chychrun, Miller or Forsberg…
  4. Mikheyev - The salary cap is a harsh mistress. He’ll ask for 4.5 but is worth 3-3.5, which is still too much and this is his first and maybe last chance to get his bag. I’d toss him into a package.
  5. 2024 or 25 1st - Please for the love of god keep the 1st for the next couple of years to shore up the thin cupboards. If Dubas goes big game hunting then he can send one or both of these, but the team won’t be able to handle another year with 3 (or less) picks.
In
JT Miller he would add the most bang for the buck imco
Forsberg such a pipedream but real SS, in fact I'd move Willie for him

Out

Mikheyev like this guy a lot, but he's going to be too expensive to sign, so I'd like something for him maybe as part of a pkg for Miller
Mrazek holy ol heck Dubas what were you thinking!

Back ups are important in the playoffs.

We have had terrible luck with injuries. If Jack is ran into or tweaks something, the thought of Mrazek owning the net against Tampa or Florida is not comforting.
