It wouldn't have cost that much to get someone competent like a Reimer.

I am not even a big Reimer fan, but trying to clown people for being upset we didn't upgrade our sub .900 goaltending is delusional.
But we also have no idea what he would have cost, the cap gymnastics behind it, and whether he's ACTUALLY an upgrade. Jack has been elite with us until a few months ago. Our team defense has only improved during the season.

I'm willing to bet on Jack finding his game again, personally. It seems insane to me people are losing their minds over not grabbing a Reimer or Varlamov.

I don't mind the moves we made, Lyubushkin and Giordano help, and I really like Blackwell. However I can't get that Calgary game from a month ago out of my head, as well as the Nashville game this past Saturday to some extent. This team is ill prepared for that style of hockey.

So with Sandin and Kase most likely out long term...

IN: Gio + Blackwell

Out: Sandin + Kase

We're not much better post-deadline, if at all.

Clearly the asking price for a lot of pieces was high around the league and I'm glad Dubas didn't get desperate & overpay.

Our goaltending situation leads me to believe we're destined for another first round exit. But this time it won't be in 7 games, it'll be a much quicker death.

all good but leafs are not playing every one of those teams. The rangers might face Pens so that eliminates one of those teams loading up. Carolina would play the winner and then 2 of those teams are gone.

Boston, Fla, and TB 1 one those teams are gone after the 1st round most likely. So in reality the Leafs need to beat 1 team that is loaded up to start not 6 of them who loaded up
What I find hilarious about all the Florida fear is that Florida has exact as many playoff round wins since '96 as we have since '04. But apparently they're an unbeatable powerhouse and we're easy first round fodder...

He almost certainly isn't at this point.
He was a 2D just 10 months ago, let’s allow him to recover from the head trauma and get right first.
Good thing is with the dept h the doobler has added to the blue line Muzz & holl can find their form on the third pairing

We're going to need a miracle in net to get past the first round. It's up to Campbell and Kallgren now.

It's a shame because this is the deepest team we've had outside the crease in the Matthews era.

Binnington came out of nowhere for the blues. If Leafs can play better defensively keeping opposition to the outside that will help

Leafs defensive play is really garbage. the xGF/60 stats are STUPID

You are not winning anything without solid goaltending

As of now, we dont even have AHL level goaltending

Maybe a few years ago but we should find out soon if he can play close to 20 minutes (he definitely brings some toughness and leadership). We are lucky if Muzz is still a top 4.
Think about the fact that Muzzin-Holl are likely now our 3rd pairing going into the playoffs. That was our most leaned on pairing last season/playoffs. That is a big change up.. Giordano changes the landscape of our D. I just think we're too soft up front with our only real grit being Simmonds and he might struggle to even crack the lineup

Back peddle any faster and you'll be moon walking.
You're probably the only one here who thinks Dubas had a good deadline and that we have goaltending capable of getting past the 1st round. You want me to apologize or something because our GM did zero to fix the goaltending problems and now I have a hard time believing in this group ?

If you think it makes you a greater fan or something by just believing in this group regardless of what happened this deadline, you're dead wrong. And it doesn't make me less of a fan because I don't think this team is capable of beating our Atlantic division rivals + Carolina in a 7 game series.

Unless there's a significant injury to our opponent, I don't see how we stand a chance with the goaltending we've been getting. Sorry you're getting your feelings hurt because another fan is upset with the GM sitting idle and not fixing the one glaring issue that we've had practically all year.

Agreed to some extent, but even before his injuries this season he just didn't look anywhere near the same. So we'll see.

If the cap worked, I wouldn't have minded throwing a late pick for Kessel. Wouldve given us another scoring threat, especially on the 2nd pp and the guy shows up for playoffs.

Bunting Matthews Marner
Nylander Tavares Kessel
Mikheyev Kampf Blackwell
Engvall Spezza Simmonds/Kase(health)/Knies

Rielly Lyubushkin
Giordano Brodie
Muzzin Liljegren/Holl

I think people forget that defense gave by the leafs also have been absolutely abyssmal, no denying our goalie have been crap of late but come on man. Where did the defense that showed up two games ago for kallgren vanish to? We need that Leafs defense regularly and then that will also help a ton.

Some of you are so melodramatic
Italians love that dirt sire  But yeah, we be aaaight, we cool. I'm expecting a huge, trump huuuge playoffs by the hard ass clint eastwood type, lyubucshkin. He our robocop now for real. Blackwell will play IN ALL OF OUR GAMES FROM NOW ON: He has intenstity. We need our other fools to step up and lead, WANT IT, HARD. BE ALPHA. Alphas take the queen home in the end and get it. Hard.

Back ups are important in the playoffs.

We have had terrible luck with injuries. If Jack is ran into or tweaks something, the thought of Mrazek owning the net against Tampa or Florida is not comforting.

And you feel better with a head case like Reimer, who (in pretty much every aspect, from style to numbers to success to injury luck) has had a career identical to Mrazek? Both have had some really low lows, and some really high highs.

Mrazek has had stretches of games where he is virtually unbeatable. If that comes in the playoffs, we are winning a series.

And then there is also Kallgren/Woll. It is not the first time a rookie goalie, behind a high end team (which we are), can go on a hot run. We have had some terrible luck with goaltending, and we have had that with both proven options (Andersen) and unproven options (Campbell) fail to outplay the other guy. Do I expect Kallgren to outplay a guy like Shestyerkin or Vasilevsky? No. I don't expect MAF, Varlamov, etc. to do so either and I also didn't expect Korpisalo to outperform Andersen and yet he did by a fair bit. We will obviously need a goalie who can play above expectations regardless of what happens, and I don't see why our guys can't be the ones who do that.

Maybe waivers is exactly what Mrazek needed to get his **** together.

Who cares about 20 years ago? They looked scary last year, and a legit threat this year
