Deepest team we've had in a very long time. Not just the Matthews era.

But we don't have a competent goalie right now that give us anything more than sub .900 hockey.
Goalies are voodoo and both of the incumbents have short and long term history of being able to provide the goaltending required in decently long stretches. It’s not ideal and I’m sure a lot of us have questions about it, but if they decided one of soup being healthy or mrazek finding his game are as likely as one of the other options fitting in, then let it ride.
Most deadline goalie additions flop, remember when a dominant top of the league st Louis added a vezina calibre Ryan miller? How’d that work out?

What I find hilarious about all the Florida fear is that Florida has exact as many playoff round wins since '96 as we have since '04. But apparently they're an unbeatable powerhouse and we're easy first round fodder...
Exactly and everybody talk about goalie problem in toronto but bobrovsky amount all active goalie with at least 5 playoff game played, only jonathan Bernier get worst stats than him !!!

A few years ago he was one of the best dmen in hockey. He's still a top 4 guy.

That is why I like him but he is 38 and probably slower. I wanna see how he plays in Blue and White before I anoint him a true top 4 dman. Either way our D is much more playoff ready than it was a couple of days ago.

I don't mind the moves we made, Lyubushkin and Giordano help, and I really like Blackwell. However I can't get that Calgary game from a month ago out of my head, as well as the Nashville game this past Saturday to some extent. This team is ill prepared for that style of hockey.

Leaders of this team have to lead from front and not "look" for help form outside. If the 50% of the cap cower and hide when game gets physical then no amount "toughness" is ever going to help.

Refs don't call shit in the playoffs anyway; so they gotta wake the F up; play the effing game and stop looking at the refs after every physical play and lose a step covering for/on defense and not allow odd man rushes against

I think people forget that defense gave by the leafs also have been absolutely abyssmal, no denying our goalie have been crap of late but come on man. Where did the defense that showed up two games ago for kallgren vanish to? We need that Leafs defense regularly and then that will also help a ton.

The Nashville game was embarassing. Throwing your rookie goalie under the bus like that was f***ed. Besides that though this team is 3rd in the league in xGA/60 since Jan 1st. We simply just don't give up chances.

My money has Jack not letting in beach ball goals at fully healthy. Mrazek, I've never had faith in, but even he goes on stretches where he's unbeatable.

You're probably the only one here who thinks Dubas had a good deadline and that we have goaltending capable of getting past the 1st round. You want me to apologize or something because our GM did zero to fix the goaltending problems and now I have a hard time believing in this group ?

If you think it makes you a greater fan or something by just believing in this group regardless of what happened this deadline, you're dead wrong. And it doesn't make me less of a fan because I don't think this team is capable of beating our Atlantic division rivals + Carolina in a 7 game series.

Unless there's a significant injury to our opponent, I don't see how we stand a chance with the goaltending we've been getting. Sorry you're getting your feelings hurt because another fan is upset with the GM sitting idle and not fixing the one glaring issue that we've had practically all year.
I think he had a good deadline as well, Gio is as impactful a D man that was moved this deadline and he did it for a couple of seconds. Blackwell is a good glue guy. His most played with linemates last year we’re panarin and strome, this year it’s gourde. He’s a solid add as well, not to mention turning Ritchie into boosh

To be fair Mrazek is the exact kind of wildcard that would fill in for a Vasi injury and shut us out 4 games in a row.
At this point, we have no other choice but hope and push mrazek to play his best hockey. Pressure is going to be massive.

Now we wait to see the outcome of the remainder of games he ends up playing and playoffs games.

Who cares about 20 years ago? They looked scary last year, and a legit threat this year
Haven't we been repatedly told that on paper means nothing? But I guess we should forfeit if we draw Florida in round 1, because they're scary... on paper.

Florida has a lot of the same problems Toronto has and really didn’t address them any more than we did

I said it earlier but I think it got deleted in the migration.

Player by player, Florida has the Leafs beat in pretty much every single instance. Just about every one of their players up front is better than the Leaf comparable. They've got 2 d-men better than anyone on the Leafs and a better overall unit, and 2 goalies better than anyone on the Leafs.

Florida also plays a hard, fast, physical game. They look like a cohesive unit out there rather than a group of individuals. They've also got some real motherf***ers in their lineup which the Leafs lack

But we also have no idea what he would have cost, the cap gymnastics behind it, and whether he's ACTUALLY an upgrade. Jack has been elite with us until a few months ago. Our team defense has only improved during the season.

I'm willing to bet on Jack finding his game again, personally. It seems insane to me people are losing their minds over not grabbing a Reimer or Varlamov.

I think Varlamov could have made sense, whereas most everyone else were question marks themselves. Thing is, we never really got a strong insinuation Varlamov was ever available, and even the goalies that moved, largely were not worth what they moved for. Especially if they were just lateral moves.

I’d have supported getting Reimer for insurance but only if Mrazek was out/claimed. Doesn’t really work otherwise. That said, we have no idea what San Jose wanted for Reimer. Probably a reason no one acquired him

I really like the additions of Gio and Blackwell, when fully healthy we have one of the best LDs in the league. I am just praying one of our goalies can get hot at the right time Hopefully this extended time off for Soup will help him mentally. We'll just have to wait and see in the playoffs, but if the sub .900 goaltending continues, look back at this day.
