If we believe the Leafs were in on MAF and Hagel, then to see a team give up a 2nd, which is nothing to Kyle, this one makes little sense not to be in on.

Of course, the part about upgrading to a 1st with a CONF final appearance is a wrinkle. And, of course the Leafs would add him believing/hoping he'd get the Leafs there.

The reason for my disappointment is this is something we allegedly wanted to do but Tampa swooped in on Hagel nullifying the deal. The Wild came in and scooped up the other half. Looking at what we have, it's horrifying, for a team who talks about doing great things.

If you asked me if I'd give up a 1st for MAF, I'd say that I wouldn't, but looking at what we have in net would give me pause to consider. We shouldn't be in a position to have to do these things, but here we are.

No, we actually did not want to do it. It never even got close.

We were not giving up Knies and top picks for Hagel and Fleury... And we should be happy about that. These are not players who are worth blue chip prospects.

No matter what we do in net, there were going to be question marks. Fleury, Gibson, Campbell, Varlamov... It is just a matter of whether you want to bet on someone who is less proven, or someone who hasn't proven anything recently regaining form. I would have been fine with Fleury at the right price, but this is not the right price. Not for Gibson at all really; 6.4 mill for a goalie who hasn't had an average year for 3 years (and IDC how bad Anaheim has been, if he was worth 6.4 mill, he wouldn't be averaging a .905 the last 3 years). So it really comes down to maybe Varlamov, and we will see if there is a move that can be done there.

I can see Lilly getting traded. If there's something big on the table
Those two requested trades, and will never suit up for a game for the Leafs. Probably a day of NHL pay.

Unsure what it has to do with trading Liljegren.

Pretty sure it was reported that Fleury wouldn't waive for T.O. so it doesn't matter anyway
I didnt hear that anywhere, it was mainly assumed that if anything by a lot of fans iirc. Most of the info was that the deal was nixed as soon as the GM of tha hawks asked for 1st + Knies which was kind of a NoNo starter for Dubas. Before it even went to Fleury

I seem to recall a tweet saying Dubas backed out before it even got to the point of Fleury being asked.
Ya because did you see the haul that they got for the Hagel deal? Leafs were after Hagel and Fleury as a package.

Hagel isn't worth giving up one or 2 firsts plus a Knies or Niemela calibre prospect

I’m more addressing the idea that Fleury wouldn’t wave for Toronto, he was never even asked, so we don’t know that.

We did want to do it. We just didn't like the price. The intent was to acquire Fleury due to the need that is still present which is why something has to happen before the deadline. I'm glad he didn't give up Knies. That guy may end up being our best late season addition of them all. Exciting to contemplate, at least.

I'm more into thinking Vejmelka who just reupped with Coyotes. Not sure they would deal him, but he'd be my focus. Sounds like it may end up being Reimer.

Do you get paid if you practice? or just by being with the team

I thought you had to play games to get paid?

He was playing poorly before the injury, so the injury can't be the excuse for all of his poor play. I'd love to think that he was just bad because he was hurt, but that doesn't appear to be the case. If he's Bad Jack, the Leafs are toast. If you're the GM, are you really trusting he's going to be the guy he was a few months ago? Maybe, he thinks Gio and Blackwell will make Jack's job easier and he really doesn't need to go out for a #1 but seeing that we were in on MAF before the Hagel deal, leads me to believe Kyle does not trust Jack. Why else would you be attempting to add Fleury if you did?
Ya, probably not able to put 2 months of poor play on a lingering rib..? who knows. I strained the ribs pretty bad a few months back, better part of a month before it wasn't bugging me. Can't imagine trying to perform NHL level goaltending fighting the ribs, every damn twist hurts. Mind you obligatory professional athlete condition versus Joe Slug reference.

Honestly sad Dubas didn't acquire Fleury. Price was extremely fair. That would've been a massive upgrade for us. Conditional 2nd that becomes a 1st if we reach the conference finals. I know Dubas traded our next two seconds, but surely he could've come up with a similar if not better offer.
For all we know, he didn't want to come here.

We are probably done on defence now
As we should be. We need to shore up that second line wing spot at the minimum. That or get a really good goalie. One of the two, otherwise what's the point in trading for gio et al. Looks to be a short playoff trip at that point.

They get paid if they are on the NHL roster. Maybe it's just a send off gift to give them some pocket money? lol

Makes me wonder if it is more cap gymnastics to create more room?
